  1. Hybrids don't sell well either in my neck of the woods (truck country). My 2010 prius was nearly a year old (10 months on the lot) when I picked it up at big discount. Only 3 out of every 100 new vehicles sold in the USA is a hybrid. My guess is that California alone accounts for 1.x of those 3 new sales. I would assume Canada has MUCH lower percentages.
  2. This is the place to tell us what you did to your 'Max. It can be anything; post away! Pics not necessary but highly encouraged. I added seatbelt retainers to make them easier to reach. Separate post with more info in the interior section.
  3. My previous cars had the seatbelt buckle located at the upper post for conveniently grasping when putting it on. The CMax unfortunately lets the buckle fall closer to the floor in an awkward to reach position. Adding a cheap plastic clip solved this issue and I can't feel it while wearing the belt. I was concerned that a metal version would be both uncomfortable and could cause additional body damage in an accident. Once fitted and adjusted to the belt, they will hold the buckle at an easily reachable height just above your shoulder. Muscle memory makes this a "no look" maneuver after a few tries. This is where it ends up once the I'm belted in and I don't feel it at all. Passenger side. OK quality and got them from Amazon for around $7/pair. http://www.amazon.com/Dorman-HELP-74325-Seatbelt-Retainer/dp/B000CO96RW/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1373330208&sr=1-1&keywords=Dorman+HELP%21+74325+Seatbelt+Clip+Retainer
  4. Well one thing I do know is the ford engineers got the transition RIGHT. Damn if I can tell when it happens; very smooth. :salute:
  5. Arrrgh! This site keeps costing me money! :) I just ordered from http://www.etrailer.com the Curt 1.25 hitch mount, a 20x48 cargo carrier, and some accessories. 350 lbs. capacity should help keep the interior cleaner when we go to the home and garden store, beach trips (chairs, boogey boards, cooler) and some family vacations. 102, how difficult was threading the two bolts from inside the rails?
  6. Sure there is: http://www.consumerwatchdog.org/case/hyundai-false-advertising-miles-gallon-mpg but there are other threads here about that. The poll question is fairly open ended so vote early, vote often. :)

Why do all that laborious typing when this snazzy new emoticon is available? :needphotos: :)
  8. That's what Ford was thinking early on as published in this report about it's new hybrid transmission (see slide on page 4): http://www1.eere.energy.gov/vehiclesandfuels/pdfs/merit_review_2012/adv_power_electronics/arravt024_ape_poet_2012_p.pdf I say they were spot on and should have gone with that.
  9. Agreed on the need to "drill down" on the fuelly website to get rid of some of the chaff but there are still "issues". I went through the 100's under the 2013 CMax with "hybrids L4" designation looking for averages around 30mpg and lower. The majority of these were winter tanks and then the drivers quit entering data so their better summer tanks will never contribute to the national average. Folks like these: http://www.fuelly.com/driver/jbn/cmax http://www.fuelly.com/driver/nonni/cmax http://www.fuelly.com/driver/cmaxal/cmax Oh well.......
  10. THANKS Robert! Note: when you click on the smiley icon and get the drop down bar, there is now a tiny blue right arrow button on the right side. Click it for more choices. I like this better than the show all button.
  11. You're confused by the misnomer term of "regenerative brakes". Coasting/slowing down is accomplished by having the electric motor reverse and work against the drivetrain which causes two things: driveline drag and electrical charge (the electric motor is now a generator). This all happens inside the transaxle not on the wheels or brake rotors, etc. the way traditional brakes function. Adding light brake pedal simply makes the motor/generator work harder and thus deliver more regen charge back into the battery. Add even more brake pedal pressure (hard braking) and the system will blend into traditional friction brakes. http://www.myfordmag.com/askford/regenerative-braking
  12. That looks like it could be my Ruby Red SEL, even has the same style tint. I see a fellow RR quite frequently. I suspect they live in the same area of town as I. There's also have a silver metallic near my work.
  13. 1970 Chevy C/10 Pickup base model: 250 cu in 6 cylinder, three on the tree, heater, and a/m radio, vinyl bench seat= chick magnet (heavy sarcasm) I had been driving on the farm by 12 and local rural roads at 14 so it wasn't a big deal when I turned 16. I drove it through high school and upgraded the a/m radio to an 8-track with above dash mounted speakers from radio shack.
  14. I haven't seen the info on the CMax yet but all the other hybrids I've owned had a transition from electric regen to friction brakes around the <10mph zone. Holding the car at a stop via the electric side of the hybrid equation would be incredibly inefficient.
  15. As I said back in post #9, I had a prius with the solar roof option and yes it worked. The best analogy I've heard: the cooling effect is the equivalent of having all your windows cracked open all day long but without the security and dust issues (filtered air). It was a $4k option that was bundled with premium sound, NAV, and sunroof but I got a $3.5k discount so I went for it. As a single option, I certainly wouldn't pay $4k for it but, say, around $1k? Here in the deep south? Sure.
  16. Turn off the autoplay feature in the settings menu for the media player.
  17. asb, you missed the part about picking ONE thing. :)
  18. More digging found another one with a 19.1mpg avg. NiNETEEN! I contacted him about the discrepancy (last entry was also over 6 months old) and he gladly removed all the data.
  19. I greatly prefer the look of your location but that covers nearly 50% of the lower vent. This is the location of mine as it came from the dealer and looks to be like ptjones. The very top of the license plate partially covers two open rows, the bottom section of the upper grill is not open. Excuse the bugs from recent road trips. It looks like the OP and StoBro2's version is the best for not blocking airflow but that location really interrupts the styling lines of the chrome trim ring. Decisions, decisions.......
  20. Two days later: 39.9 40.0 by the weekend? :happy feet:
  21. Tumors. :hysterical: Sorry but Ford doesn't hold the patent on those "tumors". My wife's Civic has them too.
  22. Those are really good considering a cold ICE and short length. GOOD JOB!
  23. Matt, FWIW, the Volt has an aggressively low air damn and it well know for scrapping on everything. GM even offers a shorter one in the accessory catalogue with a lower fuel economy disclaimer. I took the el cheap approach and simply removed mine. Anyway, I still have it laying about if you'd like to try adapting it to the CMax. It comes in three pieces (front, left corner, right corner) that snap together and is held in place by several plastic screws into the underside of the front fascia.
