Best Engine RPM for minimal FE loss.
salsaguy replied to John Sparks's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
Get an app for your smart phone like "My Tracks" (Android Google Play store) which lets you save various trips/routes and you can record them and it will show the elevation vs speed graph so that you can know how much uphill or downhill you are driving on your most common routes so you know if you can expect to get good or bad/worse mpg one way and the opposite mpg when going on the other way. I think there is another thread here where we discuss the elevation aspect in detail. Search for it. There are many free apps out there that so this. Any GPS logger, like used for hiking or cycling will do this. Some better than others. Good luck- 99 replies

If you can export the data to a csv file you can do all the factors / graphs u want in excel. Most data loggers will allow exporting of the data for more detailed analysis. Some charge you more for this feature built in or as an add-on.- 99 replies

So Ford sales reps aren't trained about the cars they are selling? You would think they would train you a lot especially on a very different car like the cmax so that you in turn could train/teach your would-be customer.... hnmmmmmm A new car launch I thought would prompt major training of staff members as required...- 99 replies

Justin, how is your White Platinum paint doing. Still not sure if we want to pay extra for the better clear coat platinum white color or go with the Sterling Grey metallic to match my grey metallic Passat. 2) how are you doing after the incident?

Fbov, each person's results will vary greatly depending on if they live in a warm or cold climate, if the drive like a racer or a normal person and if they apply some of the tips posted in this form or not.

Samsung Galaxy phones + Sync =?
salsaguy replied to fotomoto's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
That list includes the Galaxy S4 but not the newest and most popular model the S5, which I'm considering getting. Not sure if it's not on the list because they didn't update it yet or if it's really not compatible....? -
It's called "buffeting". Not supposed to have the sunroof/moonroof open when driving faster than 45 (on freeway). It's meant to let air in so you don't need AC use in the city and let out hot air when parked.
-
Where is your source on the '14 or '15 having a functional sunroof???

I'm seeing them more and more on the road now. Last week was the best. I saw 2 climaxes on 2 back to back days (4 different climaxes in 2 days)!!! I agree they didn't advertise it enough composed to their other lines. I agree the FE issue dogs hurt it's reputation.it's sad since I really feel the prius was looking old and to much of the same thing for to long and the market was really ready for something different and new.if ford had done the sticker correct and lowered it from the beginning they world have a real winner now. We are still considering the cmax now that our finances are a little better...we just got a new card from Ford to get $750 incentive cash back or 0% APR and $2000 cash. Might be time to buy it now on the low end before demand and gas prices go back up. Dealers are probably very hungry and willing to negotiate lower to get it off the lot and not have inventory stuck which costs than every day it sits. Just hope they don't cancel the model and then all of us will have issues getting service/support for it.

Very very cool video there kostby.definitely helps to sell/market the car. Interesting tidbits of info.

Shouldn't FE go up faster than it goes down.
salsaguy replied to John Sparks's topic in Fuel Mileage
This is why using "average" is a bad measurement/statistic ssometimes since extreme values (high or low) have a big impact on it, whereas using median does not. But it's what we use here in the USA so we live with it. Don't worry just be happy to be getting 38-48 mph in your cmax compared to your previous cars mpg ;) -
Consumer Reports April Auto Issue
salsaguy replied to ArizonaEnergi's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
Note that they only tested/rated the SE version which lacks a lot of the cool features. Many who sit in/drive an SEL will love it/get spoiled in all the nice stuff it has over the competition. The SE was also more prone for the battery issues in the 2013 version. But it still did better than the crapbox Prius :) -
Check for the sd card. They might have taken it out when detailing it for resale. Or it got stolen . You should be able to reorder one from the dealer or on your own at parts dept for maybe $100-200 if it's missing but try and get them to pay for it as you bought the car incomplete and is missing an option you bought/paid for.

Engine reving in park. lunging forward
salsaguy replied to Massie Lawson's topic in Maintenance, TSB's & Recalls
What year / month was your car made? Is it an SE or SEL? There have been known battery issues on many cmaxes (monthly SE models) but haven't heard about the revving issue Best of luck. Call your dealer for an appt and be safe. -
Ford dropping Microsoft Auto in favor of QNX
salsaguy replied to valkraider's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
It's very doubtful that they will install the new software in the older cars since who is going top pay for it. The consumer of course since its not a safety issue and They would have to know how many would be for sure going to pay to update their old cmax so they could pay for development. Not very likely as the low # that would care to update would be so small that the cost would outweigh the costs for Ford to put in the resources in people and programming. -

What happens if you aren't on the Apple bandwagon and use an android phone instead of an iPhone?? Not everyone wants to be forced to use a certain phone type. -

My 2012 VW Passat can show the navigation directions and arrows, although only in monocolor, right in the dash/multi function indicator (mfi) This lets you use your nav screen for the media like you're music so you can still have your directions on the dash screen. It's a nice touch. -
From the album: salsaguys pix
Spotted a white CMAX Energi on Mon 3/10 on the 57 south in Orange, CA right near the Anaheim Angels stadium on my way to physical therapy. Licence begins with 7CGX... Also saw another white one in Fullerton (not sure if it was a Hybrid or Energi) on my way to work. Was driving on the street on Harbour Blvd. It was going the opposite direction so didn't get to look as long to catch the details. -
more info on the switch over...looks like its a rumor only at this point and nothing is set in stone. see links below I used to work for an automotive OEM part mfg and I know each part has to go thru YEARS to qualification first and any changes take a long time to get thru the pipeline on any design stuff: http://news.cnet.com/8301-32969_3-57619624-300/ford-not-married-to-microsoft-for-next-gen-sync-but-blackberry-isnt-necessarily-in/ http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57619452-94/blackberry-said-to-be-replacing-microsoft-in-fords-new-cars/

you can set it in the settings menu to turn it on or off if you want it active or not. to setup a location to learn you have to visit it many times but you can FORCE it to learn a location that you go to all the time (your home, work, moms house, etc) by turning the car on and off about 14 times (if I remember correctly.... it might be only 7) search around the forum and you will find more info on it. thats if you dont want to wait the 2-4 WEEKS for the car to learn by itself, per the owners manual info watch this video to learn more about EV+ here: http://www.edmunds.com/car-news/ford-hybrids-ev-feature-learns-drivers-destinations.html See pg 187 of your 2013 owners manual (3rd printing) for details about EV+: https://owner.ford.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Owner/Page/OwnerGuidePage&year=2013&make=Ford&model=C-MAX+Hybrid some folks dont like it as it discharges the battery too low when you get to home some say it saves gas as you run in all EV when within about a 1/4 to 1/8th of a mile from your home/EV+ location(s) you cant just put one in like a destination on your gps and I think its limited to 3 slots at most (per users experience posts here)

Im surprised Ford didnt swap out the wheels on the 2014 CMax to a more aero dynamic face to get better mpgs, like the wheels on the Jetta Hybrid. I was at my VW dealer to service my Passat and he said that is why they look like they do, to help with better laminar flow as the wheel holes/gaps mess up the drag a lot. Im sure you have seen hypermiller cars where they put lexan clear covers over the wheels or cover them up completely. very ugly but it works. these are a good compromise of being a FLAT surface with only minimal openings. Im sure they are harder to clean in some ways though... you can see a pix of them here: http://tinyurl.com/k5knvpx or here: http://tinyurl.com/lbc4vev
