big alpha, at what mph setpoint do you eco cruise at? also with that type of commute, why didn't you buy a diesel like the Jetta TDI or Passat TDI? diesels excel with your exact type of commute (high speeds for long trips) and you would be getting great mpgs.yes diesel fuel can cost more compared to regular gas but this would be offset by the higher mpgs and longer range of the diesel. http://green.autoblog.com/2013/06/10/vw-passat-tdi-clean-diesel-en-route-to-new-lower-48-mpg-record/ http://media.vw.com/pressrelease/1056/1/volkswagen-passat-sets-world-record-longest-distance-one

Any updates on this video review / teaching lesson project for best driving strategies?
-
Last discussion on this was in April. No word on any updates? ? Anyone want to guess how long we have to wait to hear some updates about the case? Any lawyers here in the forums? I'm sure Ford sent some data to EPA to fend off the hounds. I'm pretty sure they will try and settle out of court for these (false or unproven) claims. With more breakin miles and some info taken ftom the suspect vehicles and a deeper look into the driving habits/style of these complaint filers,I'm sure Ford and the EPA have a good start on understanding what's really going on here.

No Jus, it will be outside the bowl in the huge parking lots area on asphault. No way the Galaxy will allow tearing up the grass in the bowl. I believe they will have 3 different courses: fast cones salom type, then hylermiling challenge for best mpg, and one more i dont know what. The drive there will be a good test for you to try a different route for a change.

i thought there wasn't an auto version of the Focus ST?? I'm sure we'll get more info as the event approaches. i doubt the info they teach you on hypermiling will help you but it will be nice to tell them what you can do. i would be sure to bring a copy or 2 of your 800+ mile trip and highest mpgs in your Cmax to show them and put big O's on their faces :0. ;)

cool. I'll have to give you my phone/email in a pm so we can meet before or after. hey don't drive a prius to the event drive your Cmax so you can show it off to my wife and i. it's open for anyone not just non Ford owners right? i wonder if they will recognize you from the Irvine meet event. it's probably different folks since this is not cmax only testing. wish the Focus ST had paddle shifters. it's been a long time since I drove a stick shift. I'm sure my wife will have to skip that as same for her but she is more wimpy than me.

Jus, can't wait to meet you.

thanks John. i just signed my wife (cutie75) and I up for the Pasadena, CA Rose Bowl 7/20 event for the 1pm time slot. if anyone else is going to this lets set up a meet n greet.

i agree most car hardware is speced out anywhere from 3-5 years in advance so USB 3 were not that common. any last minute changes don't happen that often unless it's a safety issue due to the long time for approval to be granted from the auto market to the OEM mfg of the headware.

nice find. it is interesting since most all othereco boost or hybrid cars have a lower (even slightly) number for their hwy mpg value than the city number so why did Ford think any different for the C-Max. of course the numbers won't change until they redo the tests or create a better test profile for Lithium ion tech hybrid like the C-Max.

foto, that first one is very suspect since look at the name P.O.S., meaning Piece of $@&@ so i would expect that one to be a fraud trying to get the mpg numbers down on purpose. in my analysis i would also exclude any super high or super low numbers but also any suspicious names that could be bogus posts on Fuelly. the third link shown, with their 10% city driving (meaning 90% highway), we *should* expect to see low mpg numbers for them as we did in a recent thread called something like "1400 miles on the highway in the cmax". we know the cmax thrives in city driving but not so well at fast (65-85 mi/hr) and long driving over the 62 mph limit for EV mode in the C-max.

agreed which is why we need a full years worth of data to get a fuller picture. in my data analysis i can further Weed out those with less than xx number of fillups. since most agree 500 miles on a tank is pretty doable and if break-in time is about 2000-3000 miles minimum maybe we should also exclude those with less than 5 tanks per say. i could also plot how many months they have been on/added to fuelly. do we know when the first CMax for 2013 for USA was put on the lots/or do we know who owns the oldest cmax here on the forums by build date? was that July or Aug 2012? this was i can know when to cutoff for one years worth of data.

yeah but i did post a pix on my 2nd spotted cmax. "salsaguy needed this......" :needphotos: -
Seth this is common to see this discrepancy between car dash gallons and the fuel pump gallons used.

i ran the data on Wed to calculate some numbers but note you should ALL be using the the filtered search on Fuelly for not only the 2013 model year but to filter only the "hybrid" ones (using the pulldown) , so you know you have valid data and not bogus data that does not apply.many folks have no clue when reporting their data. on Wed there was only 152 vehicles in this filter of hybrid cars and not the 220 shown in your screenshot. in my filtered data the ones called "Grand CMax" and "Charlie Max" were not included. They are part of the 2013 model year sample but not part of the smaller hybrid only sample. don't forget they are still selling them overseas so... I'd rather use 150 valid data points than 200+ suspect data points. as long as fuelly data is self reported wee will continue to have these issues but make sure you are looking at the correct data first.

which is a good reason why full synthetic oil is better to use as it sticks to the parts to keep them lubricated and more quickly gets dispersed around the engine because it doesn't clog/gum/thicken up over time like normal oil.

1,400 miles cross country, driving with the flow of traffic
salsaguy replied to Jmonty's topic in Fuel Mileage
recump, yes it is assisting but not as much as some folks (not me) would like it to. funny that these same folks were JUSt fine getting 15-25 mpg in their former cars but when they only get 40 mpg in their CMax it's an outrage :) -
with the larger front window and the extra heat it generates, it really is amazing they don't have an opening sunroof as an option for the C-Max. in my car i always crack all 4 windows and the sun roof to allow the heat that gets trapped in the car during the day when it's parked to at least let some of it out. since heat travels up, that's the best place to let it out, from the roof. i know we won't be getting a panoramic roof in our cmax when we get one.

just need to find out where to find out what city they are coming to next to do the driving challenge in the cars.

cool thanks. Will try it. i know my trip to work is mostly downhill and back is uphill. want to confirm my thoughts and see how FE changes.

enjoy the car and be glad you're lifetime avg is within 1 mpg of the as tested 47 mpg from the EPA number. some would kill to be getting over 45 mpg.
