that's true though if they wanted to improve FE for the car in general they'd have to have an update that would be forced (with a letter from Ford) for those with an SE that don't have the touch screen) since more buyers buy the less expensive SE model which would affect their overall FE perception in the market more than the SEL buyers.

ShoeGoo might help. or take it back to dealer to fix under warranty and so they have a record of it to fix on future models built and track how many vehicles have the same problem.no info/data means others will have to deal with it as well.

woops missed that totally :)

So...With some investagation Maxi Rose...
salsaguy replied to Hollywoodtx's topic in Lounge: Off-Topic
it would have been nice if they kept the Escape in a hybrid version for those who did want the extra space and higher seating setup but i guess they thought it would be harder to get high enough mpgs to sell enough of them since it would of had the negative effects of the larger size and weight and front face increasing the drag coefficient. -
i thought the backup cams were going to have to be std equip on all cars after a certain date to comply with new govt safety regulations?

they must have used Jus'es data at the Irvine meet and updated their algorithms accordingly after they saw what he could do. ;) yeah I'm sure car companies can do a LOT of stuff behind the scenes without us knowing now that cars have so much tech and computes embedded in them.

Jus, on the 1st post you acknowledge Adair as the 2nd female but not who was the 1st female.

congrats.warm temps sure seem to be helping more folks find the sweet spot of the car.

spotted on 7/5/13 at 845pm this is the 2nd one I've spotted and first one in the town i live in. My wife and I were returning some books to our local library in Uptown Whittier, CA (on Mar Vista Ave) about a mile from our house and just happend to spot a white C-max parked in a reserved parking spot at the city hall/community center (?? not sure what is called) that is located just behind the library parking lot . seemed like an employee's car. i guess we won't be able to buy a white one when we get ours ( so there won't be two) ;) License plate started with 6XXR if anyone claim this one id love to meet them.

if they have nav/ sat radio, they would need to get the non metallic kind as that would block some of the signal. -
1,400 miles cross country, driving with the flow of traffic
salsaguy replied to Jmonty's topic in Fuel Mileage
my bad.sorry didn't mean to say it didn't help them.sure they have to drive some city miles to get to and from home and on/off the highway. but i was speaking in generalizations since their EV contributions are so low to their mpg numbers. sure they aren't 100% highway miles, but might as well be. -
Journey to 800+ Miles on a single tank in a C-Max Hybrid
salsaguy replied to Jus-A-CMax's topic in Fuel Mileage
by the way Jus, here are your numbers I calculated from your fuelly data: Average/Mean mpg = 46.02 mpg Median mpg = 46.95 mpg Mode = 46.9 mpg note this is based on 32 data points since 3 of your 35 data points was not a full fill so no mpg was shown for those so i couldn't add those to my calculations but it seems fuelly has a way to determine the mpg for those partial fills. -
Journey to 800+ Miles on a single tank in a C-Max Hybrid
salsaguy replied to Jus-A-CMax's topic in Fuel Mileage
they wouldn't have of fuelly used median instead of avg :) oh well it will be harder to overcome the low numbers especially now that you are fueling up much less often than before. no worries. your a gas God. -
+3, I agree there are too many variables to track and neither avg or median will accurately help to represent the expected FE of any vehicle. but in median at least the few bogus and extreme values don't affect the data (group average mpg) as much as if you use avg. there is no answer. yes you can do a design of experiments to see which factors are most important to FE, like tires, weather, driver, % City driving, etc. I'm sure someone has already done this in the past. just admit that avg does have inherent problems.

What cool hidden feature have you discovered about your C-Max?
salsaguy replied to armoredsaint's topic in General Discussion
zhack yes that is how it works and yes it takes time to drive all those area and get the data updated they even have a way for users to report inaccurate data to let them fix it. -
Raymond,i have that app on my Droid Razr. please let me know how you set that up so i can replicate the same tests. thanks.

1,400 miles cross country, driving with the flow of traffic
salsaguy replied to Jmonty's topic in Fuel Mileage
jmonty, with your total miles at 1400 but you only had about 120 miles in EV mode, thats only about 11% and so your lower mpg number is expected. to get 45-55 mpg you need about 50-60% in EV mode, as with user jus-a-c-max. just curious what is your brake and acceleration and cruise scores? this car was tested by the epa at below 65 mph to get the 47mpg rating. so traveling on the highway at 75-85 mph your are using the gas engine only and not taking advantage of the battery in the car. a diesel is the best car for long range driving at high speed where a hybrid is best at around town driving at speeds <50 mpg. use the right tool for the right application. I'm sure 38 mpg is still better than the last car you owned. unfortunately right now there is no super car that does it all and gets great mpg at all speeds. but someday there will be a gas+ diesel+ hybrid car to cover all three modes of usage. it will be very expensive for sure so the savings might be outweighed by the initial costs. i know VW is working on this now for an upcoming SUV. stay tuned.. -
amazing that do many dealers/tech's are clueless and the owners know more than they do. definitely need more techs to be trained on this car and how to fix it. of course it being a first year model all these issues are brand new so nothing to go by as a reference. sad sad sad. wish all of you luck.
-
wow talk about Ford and hybrid car loyalty in the same family:) best of both worlds for sure. can't wait to hear you relate their first impressions and driving experience to us all. you plan on doing a lot of training with them with all the hidden features and tech and gadgets the cmax has? for someone that came from the baby boom era instead of the internet age era, it can be a little daunting for sure. i wonder how many folks over 50 are scared to /avoid buying a new car due to this fact alone??

Finally saw our first one in Vancouver
salsaguy replied to Laurel's topic in Sightings - C-MAX Hybrid's Spotted!
great story Laurel. yeah in the confines of the internet "everyone" is your friend.but in reality I'm sure many of us forum members would not get along at all, some would even hate each other in some cases. if anyone has ever tried using a phone or internet dating site, I'm sure you could relate. so many people on those sites fall in love over the phone/net but when they finally meet for the first time for real, they wonder what the heck happened and have no desire to even speak with the person let alone go on a date with them (no spark, passion, love, romance, mutual attraction, etc.). you read about this all the time. yeah we have to remember there are many more non forum cmax owners out there than there are forum members. i think most folks would not like someone "casing" their car, even if they were part of the same group of people who happened to drive the same kind of car. be safe and cautious. we don't want to hear about how a c-max owner was beaten senseless by another owner. not good publicity for this car for sure! :) -
i know the hybrid cars get less time in ice mode due to the EV time, but wondered if all the start/stopping of the engine wouldn't end up causing MORE issues/wear and tear than a conventional gas engine car. i know they have special linkages and computer management systems/methods to help with this, but just wondering out loud....
-
that would be an incentive for them to learn how to maximize their fuel economy wouldn't it?
-
do you guys train train your drivers in hybrid driving methods to improve mpgs or just let them drive it normal. how do you track each of the drivers mileage? computer installed in car or they just turn in receipts with fill up info?
-
welcome to the forum.and you already answered my first question i was going to ask you (about the customers enjoyment of the larger rear leg room and seats). Has any of them asked what kind of car it was and that they would love to buy or test drive one for themselves?
