  1. Just goes to show how much dealers know. Maybe they looked at the car and saw there is a "D", "L", and switch on the side of the shifter :) The 2014 owners manual shows the same transmission as the 2013: "Electronic continuously variable transmission (HF35 eCVT)" The eCVT is fundamental to the hybrid operation. The HF35 is like a more powerful version of the "Hybrid Synergy Drive" used in the Toyota Prius.
  2. I have no idea what a 2 speed CVT w/OD could possibly be, but it's definitely not used in the hybrid or Energi CMax's. Maybe in the European models. Where did you read this?
  3. Not quite. There are dozens of manufacturers of ARM based microcomputers. While many will use an particular flavor (such as the Cortex-A8) difference manufacturers use different I/O (Input/Ouput) systems. While QNX said they supported some Texas Instruments chips, that doesn't mean they have support for the Freescale chip in the Sync computer.
  4. Looks like you remove the metal panel under the engine area first and there is a drain plug: Then there is a long bleeding procedure: Doesn't look like any fun at all.
  5. The APIM (the computer that runs SYNC) is just a ARM based system that should be able to run any number of operating systems. However, what does Ford gain if they spent the manpower to put their new QNX version on it? They already sold the car, they got their money.
  6. Non-mobile version of that page: http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/176936-ford-admits-touchscreen-defeat-puts-the-buttons-and-knobs-back-into-ford-sync I've not had much to complain about the C-Max controls. All the HVAC controls have buttons and all I normally use for audio is the volume control knob. Then again, I don't listen to radio (just music from USB flash drive) so maybe there's a problem there.
  7. I think the vehicle health report actually uses a voice call to a 800 number and uses something similar to an old dial-up modem to transfer the information.
  8. 10" sounds like trouble for the C-Max, I wouldn't have the nerve to try it! We got close to a foot here in Eastern Oregon. I spent a few hours today with my tractor to clear my 1/3 mile driveway.
  9. In US terms that's 56 mpg city and 48 mpg highway, highly unlikely. Maybe all the roads are downhill in Canada? :)
  10. You can purchase a 72 hour, month, or yearly subscription to the workshop manual (which includes wiring diagrams) here: https://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdirs/retail/default.asp However, it only works on Internet Explorer and requires a few other special programs be installed.
  11. Ford is using stepper motors to control the cabin air system.
  12. I wonder if those heaters have thermostats built in? Do they take the same amount of power continuously or do they start to cycle on and off once they reach a certain temperature. Might be interesting to plug it into a Kill-A-Watt meter and see.
  13. For how long? 1 second, 1 minute, 1 hour, 1 day? I'm sure cmax-nynj was expecting the answer in kWh.
  14. According to that video it adds 3 video inputs (beyond the console connection). One cable that is active when in reverse, which you will need to extend to the back of the car, and two others on the lockpick box itself. The two others require some funny stuff with the switch on the steering wheel. Sounds like it will work for your needs, regardless of what semantics Joseph wants to get into.
  15. Ford makes it's own transmission in Wayne, MI, so I doubt they would have any problem adjusting how many to make. I think they rushed the Hybrid a bit and hadn't quite figured out what the optimum gear ratios should be. By the time the Energi was put in production they probably had more testing done. I haven't heard whether the 2014 Hybrid will have the auxiliary transmission fluid pump that's in the Energi. Apparently the Hybrid in taxi service was having some problems because the engine wasn't running enough to keep the fluid moving.
  16. No. That capability is set on/off in the computers by Ford when the car is built so people can't get a good deal.
  17. Was just looking at the wiring diagrams. In addition to the video cable (that may or may not be included without the camera factory option) there is a "Parking Aid Camera Module" that connects to one of the car's communications busses. I can't imagine what it could do, other than to make it impossible to add an after-market camera instead of giving Ford much more money.
  18. I would think the video input on the cable that goes to the rear would be active in reverse (and only in reverse). Maybe you are thinking about the video input in the center console?
  19. There is mention of it in the Information Displays part of the manual, but that appears to be an editing error. There is no sign of such a thing in the service manual that I can find.
  20. I know what you mean. I've lived in high desert (New Mexico and Oregon) since 1998 and don't see much fog. Would have been useful back in Vermont though. We did have 3 days of freezing fog here one time, that can be interesting.
  21. I read that Ford intends to start selling the Energi in Europe in 2014.
  22. That's where I got mine. I don't listen to radio so can't say how the reception compares to the whip.
  23. My free 6 months expired Dec. 7th, I'm surprised I haven't heard from them trying to get me to subscribe.
  24. Just use a 12V blender :headspin: http://www.amazon.com/Waring-TG15-Tailgater-Blender/dp/B00004UE1G
