  1. It must also be pressure-sensitive since I have used it with gloves on.
  2. Ford X-Plan does not require Ford employment: An eligible Ford employee or retiree may sponsor up to four (4) PINs per calendar year to be used towards the purchase/lease of a new vehicle for a friend or neighbor as noted below (see PIN Generation for details): ◾Selected individuals sponsored by a Ford Motor Company employee or retiree such as an extended family member, friend or neighbor. ◾Sponsors must know the individuals they are sponsoring.

Ya wants the best mpgs, read the ever-expanding thread on "I Have Found the Illusive Sweet Spot". In my case, just using ECO Cruise from Michigan to Florida and almost no hypermiling with a full load, upper 30s is what I experienced.
  4. The washer/wiper stalk is raised to the first detent to switch them on and lowered to switch them off. You will want to familiarize yourself with this procedure before using an automatic car wash.
  5. There's a long discussion about a spare on the Fusion Hybrid forum and here is one quote that makes me wonder: "I didn't come up with this different diameter wheel issue, it would not have occurred to me that a small spare would cause a problem.. This concern is simply because I've read many other Forums about this, Mustang, Fusion, Corvette, etc. Some have brake clearance issues, but all the Ford Forums are concerned about the digital controls for the drive train and damage that can happen, plus the possibility the car's computer will just got into 'limp' mode. I don't really know, just trying to find out because I'd like a spare, if it won't hurt anything when I use it. There is a reason Ford didn't put a spare in these cars, besides weight and cost." Original Michelins on the MAX are 225/50 R 17 and since I dislike driving naked, my tire dealer found a steel wheel and off-the-wall Chinese tire ( HEADWAY 205/60 R 16 ) that can be used as a spare, but in the trunk (or behind the front seat) that thing is HUGE and weighs in at 47 lbs., not a very satisfying solution for the peace of mind it brings. Here's a great calculator for comparing tire sizes: http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/brochure/info/tmpInfoTireMath.jsp
  6. SAE/Metric is a nightmare: I'm afraid to travel to Ontario with my nephew, Miles, for fear we'll have to change his name to Kilometers...

    50+mpg trips

Nicely said, Matt. It's been my experience that even at 70mph there is a small bit of battery assist on upgrades or acceleration which may be why 38 mpg is possible instead of the low 30s that might be expected for a vehicle of this frontal area and weight.
  10. Thanks for the reminder about the rear wiper, though I have on several occasions inadvertently bumped it on. Nevertheless, wondering how many years (lifetimes?) until I am savvy with all the MAX has to offer...
  11. Wipers. Took me a while to figure out the auto water sensing wipers. Dont know why that confused me so much. Also I hate that little switch at the end of the wiper controls that turns on the rear wiper. My massive meatpaws keep accidently hitting it. Climate control. I wish the buttons matched up 100% with the functionality of the touch screen. I have found myself just using the dial for temp and not much else. Mostly cause I want Defrost & feet. To try and dry my Weathertech floormats so I don't hear the water induced squeaking between the mat rubber & my shoes. I haven't been able to get the physical buttons to choose a multiple airpath, just one or another. To be fair I didn't really put much effort into it so it may be possible. My meatpaws aren't massive but I find myself accidentally switching on the rear wiper too. Far as the buttons for airpath, pushing any button will switch it on if it's off, and off it it's on. I'm able to select multiple paths that way.

    50+mpg trips

At a steady 70 ECO Cruise on flat ground with about 700 lbs. in the car managed about 38 mpg: dropping to an ECO 65 saw the mileage level out at 41, both quite respectable for the weight and drag, IMO. Wondering if you've checked wheel alignment as it could knock a few mpgs off the total.
  13. I shudder to think of what the tax on bicycles may someday be...
  14. I never considered contacting either the dealer or Blackstone. I thought the color was unusual but I'm no petroleum engineer. Far as I'm concerned, whatever came from the factory is what Ford specified and I'm okay with that. I just change oil early 'cause it's in my DNA. I am new to the 10,000 mile oil change intervals and the special oils required for that, so I'll be paying attention to miles driven. Since I prefer DIY oil changes, I'll do my best to not schedule one during the sub-freezing Michigan winters even if that means changing early. Somewhat off-topic: once worked years ago with a brilliant metallurgist with no automobile experience. He bought new a small pickup and misunderstood the 3 year warranty and was dismayed when the engine seized up at around 25,000 miles. He had no idea that routine maintenance was required. By the way, Ford denied his warranty claim (he tried saying he had changed oil) since the factory-installed oil filter was still attached to the engine (factory filter differs from aftermarket ones).
  15. This topic reminds me of others on bicycle forums: some riders will spend hundreds of dollars for gear that shaves a few ounces or grams from their rides. Others scoff.

  17. I changed at about 600 miles and oil was also murky green, though no metal flakes were visible. 4,500 miles later the Mobil 1 is dark brown on a white rag and there's been no discernible consumption.
  18. Walbridge is WAY north in Ohio, only 'bout 60 miles from the Wayne Assembly plant where your MAX was birthed...
  19. Additionally, like ptjones has mentioned, I'm finding the odometer underreports distance traveled by about 1.5%.
  20. Yes, after more than a dozen fill-ups across 14 states I've found differences of up to 8% between the computer and the fuel station pump (fuel station pump always reports more fuel than the vehicle), except at the station near my house where it's been within 1 1/2%. Beginning to wonder about them pump's accuracy...
  21. The cutout on the OBD panel is for your fingers to grab and gently pull: the panel comes off revealing the OBD port to plug in the ScanGauge. I can find no buttons on my setup either.
  22. Those appear to be cast iron and if so should be expected to develop rust in no time. I once believed that protected the underlying metal, but not so. Judging by the beefiness of those parts, longevity might be in the decades. However, certainly mention it to the service department next time you're in the dealership.
