I'm assuming you don't have grill covers so if you wanted to improve mpg's by about 2mpg you could make some to get you to around 45mpg. Good write up. :) Paul

You need to get on Fuelly and post your average like we do on here. When you get some extra money get a ScanGauge, it will give you more info and improve your MPG's. :) Paul- 99 replies

It looks like you may had 2/10s+ still in the tank. It would be good to know how much you can stuff in the tank. It seems the tank will hold 13.9-14gal. Good Job! :) Paul

My Grill Covers are clear LEXAN and the license plate is mounted on cover. I would take an 1/8" drill to drill out the plastic rivets to remove the license plate holder. My Gallery has the info. There $122 with S&H. :) Paul

Without exact numbers it's not very useful information. The long and short of this exercise is we need two important WT numbers. #1. What temp does the high temp warning message come on. #2. What temp does the ICE start to run rich to cool the ICE down and start to loose MPG's. :) Paul
-
Great Job! Just curious did you top off and how many gallons?
-
What you say is true, but you are missing one important fact that the ICE is an air pump. If you restrict the air flow it takes horse power(GAS/mpg) to over come the restriction. It would appear in the case of the CMAX the restriction is minor, but my test did show the K&N filter was the least restrictive. As I have mentioned before my 2007FOCUS/manual trans was a dramatic example of a very restrictive/noise suppressive air filtering system. I went from 34mpg to 40-45mpg with Sneeda air intake filter system ScanGauge and GoodYear Gas Miser tires. :) Paul

I have gone 90mph and CMAX still feels very stable with Grill Covers on. The car is very heavy for it's size and I haven't noticed the car getting light feeling. If anything I would think Grill Covers would cause more air going over the top of car and not under it creating more down force. Besides I just don't we are going fast enough.IMO :) Paul

I wonder how much farther I could of gone on my record run? :) Paul -
I hope you have a ScanGauge or some type of digital WT output so you can see the actual numbers. Smart Gauge is useless for this test. I did most of my testing on FWY because I couldn't get hot enough for the shutters to open even with grill covers on. The shutterswould open at 215*F and close at 214*F so they would open going uphill and close going down hill. Then after coming off the FWY and going around 45mph they didn't close until 210*F. :) Paul

It's funny but yesterday I was looking at GoPro 3 cameras for doing imaging of tuff testing but they are not practicable for filming the Grandsons. I have pics of my test setup I used for testing shutter operation in my gallery at the bottom with pics of camera in grill, USB cord on hood and LapTop on passenger seat. BTW Grill Covers solve the problem of shutters opening when stopped. :) Paul
-
Brother Mike I tested the shutter operation a while ago with computer camera but I haven't found my post yet. The center and bottom shutters are all one unit. I still have my old one from the accident. Unlike what they use to be they are open or closed, no in between. They open at 210*F at slow speeds and 215*F at FWY speeds. :) Paul

My MADMAX came with them. I like them. I thought they came standard, but I must have ordered it that way. :) Paul -
I never cleaned my 2007 Focus MAF after installing Steeda air filter system. I usually got between 40-45mpg on the HWY and it is the only car I've owned that had no carbon deposits in the exhaust pipe after 60k miles and it was a five speed manual. I can't say I have seen any noticeable improvement in mpg's from K&N filter change and it was a bear to change. I will say that with temps in the 30-50*F range I'm getting almost 50mpg on the Smart Gauge with over 425mi on this tank. :) Paul

Engine specs still say TBD. Paul

I just looked at Ford's site and it didn't say anything about mileage. :) I would be surprised if there was a difference, they aren't going to take any chances now. Paul

I saw one at Sandy Springs Ford in Atlanta. Save money get 2013. IMO :) Paul

Sorry to hear about your wife's accident, sounds like you have about the same amount damage as my car. I hope you can get it fixed faster and they do a good job being a new car. I checked in on the body shop to find out they missed some parts. Good Luck :) Paul

When I get some extra time I'm going to make something better, I'm afraid the new ones more cause medic than functional. Would need to do more aero testing to come up with a better design. :) Paul

I saw the same CMAX add three times on Castle last night. :) Paul

Hey guys I think you are being way optimistic. I just don't see one mpg improvement in the new mods. I'm going to try to make some better ones soon to see if it makes any difference. :) Paul

Over a year ago when I got my CMAX I noticed as well as everyone else on this forum that you don't drive CMAX/FFH like any other hybrid on the market. I personally had 08 and 10 Escape hybrids and I have driven my daughters 2012 Prius. There are several difference including larger Lithium Ion battery, computer charges the HVB very aggressively, higher EV speed , etc. It seems to me that the computer is programed for the two bar approach and it almost naturally does it. With P&G , 2,000 rpms just is impracticable, maximum EV and minimum ICE gets the best MPG's. :) Paul- 99 replies

Yesterday I went to North Atlanta to check out a 2014 CMAX Energi at Sandy Springs Ford to take pics of improvements to 2014 model. Atlanta had a high of 65*F yesterday, it was great. I decided to see if I could get the Smart Gauge overheat warning and find out what the actual temp. is for that warning. I drove on the Fwy's the whole time between 60-75MPH and the highest temp. I got to was 238*F , never got the overheat message and Smart Gauge still had 4-6 degrees F to get to the top White line. This is with the whole front of the car covered grill covers and carpet tape. It would appear the only way to get this warning is to have a long steep grade and use three bars to be able to get hot enough like Jus did. I averaged at least 50mpg for the 115mi. trip. :yahoo: Paul

I talked to Nick Prince of Sandy Springs Ford and he said they had one so I went and looked at it. I took pics of it, but Brother Mike has already posted them, the CMAX Energi didn't have the air dams in the front but in the back. I took pics of ICE compartment too. I need to compare it to mine. If I was going to buy a new one I think I would save money with a 2013.IMO :) Paul
