What do you have trip 2 set for?
-
I have seen this many times and seems after about 80mi to empty it becomes useless information. I watch gal. used and have found you are safe with less than 13gal. used. My max has been 13.5gal.(14gal. actual). Paul
-
How many to empty? You should be able to go 140mi. more. Stop sweating you got a 2gal can in back. You will easily make it. Safely you can go 25mi past Empty, I've gone 40mi without running out, not sure that everyone can do that. Keep us posted on your progress, you will make it. Paul

With many fill ups I often see this and think it has to do with getting better gas mileage at the start and less at the end or vice versa. Sometimes I wondered how accurate fuel pumps are. I talked to a company that works on them and it turns out they are very accurate. On another note most people that have checked their odometer with GPS have found it to be off by 1.015% so gas mileage could be better by a mpg. #1 would help your MPG's from doing a noise dive at the beginning, not sure it makes a difference in the big picture. I work 2.4mi from home and it is a little down hill from work with well charged batt. got 128mi. LOL I pay the price going to work 32-38mpg. Is most of your driving HWY?

I purchased my C-Max in mid-October 2012 and had my first 47mpg tank straight off the dealer's lot! When this forum started back in late 2012, the main issue being hotly discussed was why fuel mileage was steadily decreasing as outside temperatures began to drop during the winter months. I had experience with a 2010 Escape Hybrid that was getting city mileage in the low 40's and my C-Max was doing about the same...very disappointing. I developed grill covers that allowed the engine to retain heat thereby improving fuel economy. I did a ton of testing fuel mileage with and without the covers in a controlled test highway loop. The results showed a 2 - 4 mpg improvement in fuel economy with the covers installed. Around a dozen or so other C-Max owners with covers (some purchased from me and others made their own) experienced similar results early this year. I mentioned I believed we could get up to 700 miles on a tank and Jus-A-CMax had the brilliant  idea to start the 600 mile club! A good number of C-Max owners enthusiastically jumped on board to accept the challenge and here we are today with a 500+ mile club, a 600+ mile club and several who have topped 700+ and even 800+! I look on the challenge as just that - fun, fun and more fun. It makes driving a lot more interesting and it doesn't hurt to have a few extra bucks in my pocket either! Plus when I was close to the 700-mile mark, my wife who had been complaining about my obsessive/compulsive driving habits, joyfully encouraged me to drive around a local shopping center until I broke the 700 mark and THEN told me to keep going until I ran out of gas!!!!!! I wussed out at 725.2 even though I had a 2-gal gas can in the back in case I ran out of fuel (I didn't). That made two of us happy! This is not for everyone but there are a good number of us that are having fun with it. I'd hate to see "hypermiling" labeled as a negative; it's an individual decision and heck, it's a lot of fun plus it gives us something to talk about. The challenge I'm working on now is to get over 47mpg at 70mph on the highway with aerodynamic assists (currently getting 50mpg at about 65mph). I just ordered the Aerohance GasPods. Got my rebate check in the mail today to pay for my aerodynamic assists! Happy C-Maxing! :shift:

:yahoo: :bliss: I got my $550 Ford rebate check dated 09/10/13 via Certified Mail today at my PO Box!

This is going to be fun! Paul

Do the math, you still have over 3gal left at 47mpg=about 150mi. Don't forget the gas can. LOL Paul
-
For me I'm not complaining about the mileage when I regularly get 50mpg :) on the HWYs around Atlanta going 70-55mph with my Cover Mods. They will probably deliver the check to my house and nobody home during the day. We will see how that ends up. I'm wondering if this isn't a PR thing, I don't think they needed to do it, there is plenty of us getting close to the advertised mileage. Paul

Mine was delivered to dealer first part of Oct. and I bought it a week or two later, about 11 months no check yet. Paul
-
I just put it behind the back seat in a corner and only put it there when I'm close. Don't like the smell of gas. Got your can, no worries you will make it. Paul
-
I have run out of gas once and it is a non event, the ICE stops and you are in EV. Just stop when it is convenient and put gas in and remember the funnel in the back under the cover. I put gas in and it started right up. Two gallon gas can =No worries. I was lucky because I ran out across the street from gas station. LOL
-
Carry a 2gal gas can and go for it, you will make it. Paul
-
IMO it seem odd to use Ford CMAX money on Saturn. lol Still wondering how gas pods worked out. Paul
-
I would imagine how fast you go will make some difference on MPG's. Paul
-
How are the gas pod working out?
-
I also think my HWY mileage has improved a little but it's taken a while. That noise may be the shutters opening and closing. Paul
-
Jus-A-CMax Good job! Paul
-
I also have bike rack on back of CMAX and made a 275mi trip at 55mph speed limit, starting out over 50mpg and ending up at 49mpg, expected better. On the way back using the Hwy instead and averaging around 65mph I got 44.1 for around 100mi. with AC and bikes on the back. Yesterday I drove 120mi. mostly Hwy. 60-70mph with no bikes and AC and got 50mpg. I think I'm losing 1-2mpg for bikes and the same for AC. I'm going to try some more aero mods soon.. Paul
-
That means your probably had another gal. to go or 45mi. Paul
-
Congrats! Way to go on first fill-up! I used my Garmin GPS to determine how accurate my odometer was which resulted in 1.015% improvement in mileage. Every one that I have talked to that has done this comes up with a similar value. Hope this helps. I just keep a log as I'm not familiar with a way to adjust the odometer or trip settings.

I was able to get at least 40mi past E. I'm sure you can easily get 20mi. Paul

Wahooooo! :kookie: 725.2 MPG!!! Wife made me break the 700 mark and wanted me to go until the car ran out of gas and battery. I wussed out at 725.2 miles! Calculated actual mileage at 736.38 miles and at 13.6 gal 54.14mpg but decided to top off with another .4 gal (14 gal total) for 52.598mpg. This means I should have been running out of gas; I ran out of gas before and put 14 gal in. From this exercise I believe I could get 1,000 miles on a tank if my wife was co-piloting, which is amazing because she hates going slow with no air conditioning! :angry2: BTW after I filled up she made me turn the air conditioning and speed back to the office - only got 38mpg. Oh well! I would like to see a new challenge thread for the highest average speed and mpg for 500+ and 600+ miles. Anyone else interested? Whatcha think Jus-A-CMax? I'm getting close to 47 mpg at 65 mph and I think with some more aerodynamic aids might be able to get 47 mpg at 70 mph. We will see.

I'm 15mi past E and 13.22gal , 689.3mi. expect to run any time. I don't think you can run out going uphill because I think the pickup is in the back of tank. Will probably run out going into town 4mi. Paul
