  1. This POST was for gathering info to see if there were some trends or scientific info to explain the differences in FE from one car to the next. NO Records here just info. There is a definite correlation between City, HWY driving, Cold vs Hot climates, no surprise there. Brake Scores don't seem to have that much of an effect on FE other than an indication on how hard someone is trying to get real good FE. I'm very impressed with anyone that can get 99% Brake Score! I don't see how I could better than 98%. Hybrid driving can definitely make a difference as shown in EV percentages. I'm sure someone could write a program to analyze the info and come up with something someday so until then I will keep login in stats. :headscratch: :) Paul
  2. Frank "Last I checked, Nature decides what the weather will be today, and that choice severely limits the driver's FE options in my estimation. In February, I do not see 40MPG on the same roads that crack 60mpg on occasion... A heavy rain is a good 20% hit. All bets are off on snowy roads. You can see it in our Fuelly data... Yours would be a nice sinus rhythm on an EKG (and there's a subtle rising trend even now... so much for HVB issues). Mine is more of a low frequency wave...." You are right about the weather and you don't have control over that unless you move to warmer climate. Not practicable for most members. ;) I didn't include weather in my statement, because there is little you can do about it. ICE Block Heater would help in winter time for sure, but that can be a real job to do. :) Paul
  3. As I have said before, the driver decides what FE they want to get and drives accordingly. Drivers that aren't that concerned about FE get 38-40mpg and drivers that make it a challenge get 47-55mpg. It helps not to be in a hurry for sure. EPA numbers seem to reflect FE for drivers that don't make an effort to use the advantages of a Hybrid. IMHO :) Paul
  4. I bought some NOS Octane Booster Racing Formula at Walmart for $9.97 which is suppose to raise Octane by 3 (Reg. 87+3=90 octane in theory). With a couple of short trips it looks like my timing maybe advanced one degree, we will see if my FE improves. Directions say to empty container(12FL. OZ.) into 16+ gal. , I only had about 4.5 gal. so I put in about 3-4 oz. Before some members complain about wasting money on this I agree that it is more cost effective to use Premium. This is just a test and only a test, so don't do this at home. LOL  :lol2: BTW instructions say" NOTE: Not Legal For Street Use". I plan to use the rest of the bottle on my next tank of Premium to see if it improves FE. The Box also says it "Improves Fuel Efficiency" :shift: :) Paul
  5. That seems very good for HWY mileage, are you using Grill Covers, Premium and 50psi? What is your LifeTime MPG now, it was 44.5mpg? :) Paul
  6. I was using up to 30% Biodiesel in my 2003 and it ran fine. I have seen 15% Biodiesel recently. :) Paul
  7. I see this problem all over the country! :lol2: No sane person would be driving 80-90mph in 65-70mph speed Limit. ;) Paul
  8. If they were using used vegetable oil Bio-diesel it would smell like French Fries (Yum!). :lol2: I did make Bio-diesel for a few years for my Jetta TDI Wagon and FORD F250 Diesel. :) Paul
  9. Looks like they won't be able to sell any 2016 2L TDI's until the matter is solved. ;) Paul
  10. Thanks, Meagan. My first smog check comes up in March 2016. In Georgia in the Atlanta area they wait 3 years on new cars to do smog checks. :) Paul
  11. It will be interesting to see how this all works out, it seems large Corp. use Marketing to come up with solutions instead of engineering. Alot of States don't have Diesel testing like Georgia. Interesting Idea that ECM could use the GPS to change the program depending what State your are driving in. Could get more specific depending what City you were in. Atlanta area has Smog Testing, but the rural areas don't. :) PS: I noticed that some Stations are using 15% Biodiesel and how does that effect the results. :headscratch: Paul
  12. Interesting that I just got this recall in the mail. I was wondering if you would get a code if this happened? It sounds like you don't need to do this unless you have a problem. :) Paul
  13. Great Job Guys! Keep up the Great MPG's! :yahoo: Maybe CMAX average FE will go up. :happy feet: Paul
  14. Mime is the FORD 2013 Service information for CMAX Hybrid/Energi FCS-21229-13 version 1.0 :) Paul
  15. With temps in the mid 80's I was able to get my average for this tank up to 54mpg, but still down from last Premium tank of 56.4mpg. I will still get over 700mi. on this tank. :) Paul
  16. My first car,68 Mustang CS/GT w/390ci V8, 4sp had Biasply tires, they didn't last long,LOL, so I bought I think Firestone Radials and the first time I drove the car on the FWY(SoCal) it scared me to death. I could hardly keep the car in my lane and took some time to get use to the spongy sidewall. But they did corner good, I could keep up with Corvettes on the Cloverleafs off ramps. What Fun! LOL :yahoo: Paul
  17. Good Luck with that. LOL I hate going down in MPG's LOL :) Paul
  18. I got mine a couple of years ago, I did a search came up with this site: http://www.auto-repair-manuals.com/FCS2122913-2013-Ford-C-MAX-Hybrid-Energi-Factory-Service-Information-CD-ROM.htmlfor $196.95 I would recommend looking on ebay motors to find one cheaper. :) Paul
  19. Are you going from 91E0 to Premium 93 octane or Regular 87 octane? :) I hate to go from Premium to Regular, I've lost 3mpg, 56.3 to 53.3. Ouch! :drop: :gaah:  Paul
  20. pureenergi "I don't doubt your personal experience, but the general consensus runs toward highly inflated and hyper inflated tires wearing faster at the center." Personal experience is the main focus of this forum, our CMAX's are quite different than other cars so we have to compare our experiences with other members to come to consciences. A lot of members are using more than 38psi in their Michelin tires getting good results. I don't know of anyone complaining about center tire wear from over inflating, above 38psi, on this forum. :) Paul
  21. Checked mine at 106K and my rears are a little grovey, but should make 200K easially. Fronts look better. I'm wondering if their is something out of adjustment. :) Paul
  22. The lowest normal SOC is 32%, but I have seen 27% when first starting in the morning. Apparently the computers did something overnight. This was a little surprising with the ICE jerking to start immediately. The highest I've seen was I believe 80% caused by getting home with HVB pretty well charged at 69% and then cooling off overnight which increases the charge level, I see it happen all the time overnight. It is pretty cool to have the car act like an Energi for the first 30 seconds in the morning running off the HVB. :) Paul
  23. That sounds like a nice feature especially if they could make them areodynamic for long trips, save gas. :) Paul
