Do you have any Regrets in Buying the C-Max
ptjones replied to NCtoCAgirlie's topic in Buying, Order and Leasing
So that's how they get good MPG's OOP's my daughter's Prius isn't getting as good MPG's as I do now she changed her tires. :) Paul -
I have been getting up to 250*F Transmission Fluid Temp (TFT) on my ScanGaugeII. Contacted my local FORD SM and asked him what the normal operating temps for the TFT and he came back with 200-220*F. Then I got worried. I just talked to a FORD AutoNation (Electric Dealer) SW who talked to Transmission Specialist who looked it up and said it(Transmission Electronics) will trip a code at 301*F and come up with a wrench symbol. I'm surprised that it could go that high without hurting something. I'm not really having any problems with the Transmission. ;) Paul

ScanGauge just plugs in unlike blue tooth and Wi-Fi Paul

They don't make it easy. I'm glad I have a ScanGaugeII because it is dedicated to the car although I can go from one car to another no problem. They tried to work with me to get the right Codes to get TFT to work. eBay and Amazon has them for sale. :) Paul

I'm not aware of any iPhone Apps, Apple is hard to work with apparently. I think you can operate Torque on a laptop. I think CVT Trans Fluid is more like Motor Oil so it can handle higher temps, but I'm having problems getting any info on it. Not much surface area so I think they were for strength, having pad there will make Trans run a little hotter, few degrees. :) Paul

That's a good one. I hadn't even thought of that! What I'm reading it sounds like it has a little less restriction. Might be good for slight MPG improvement. :) Paul

The ICE computer is capable of giving all kinds of info, but I don't think FORD wants people to have it, just asking for problems. I just heard from my FORD SM that his FORD contact said Trans Fluid Temp should be the same as WT 200*F-220*F. "Houston We Have A Problem"! Yesterday I made a 100mi. trip to Atlanta and back with Outside temps 39-40*F and TFT got up to 246*F with Grill Covers on. An Hour later I returned home and at about half way TFT had gotten to 235*F so I stopped on a off ramp and removed lower Grill Cover where Trans Cooler is. To my surprise the TFT temp kept going up to 250*F for the rest of the trip. The only reason I can figure for this was that after removing lower Grill Cover the WT never got above 215*F so the shutters never opened to improve air flow through the Trans Cooler. Another possibility would be some restriction in the oil flow. It sure would be nice if members with ScanGaugeII's or Torque Apps would monitor TFT to see what numbers they are coming up with. If I have a problem I would like to take care of it before my warranty runs out. ;) Paul

Just talked to my FORD SM and he said that they had 5W20 for 2013's and 0W20 for 2014/2015's. He said they could use 0W20 for 2013's. At 93Kmi. in about a month I'm going to change my own oil with Mobil1 0W20, my warranty is up at 100K. :) Paul

From the album: 2013 C-Max
ScanGaugeII, with instantaneous MPG's, Intake Air temp, Trans Fluid Temp and Water Temp. -
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I decided to edit this to say I don't recommend this because of failing Trans problems and heating could make the Trans run a little hotter. Maybe 5*F hotter, not much, but no reason to make it worse. ;) XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Well I went the next step to improving short trip mileage by installing Transmission Heater Pad, a Wolverine Model 9 Pan Heater, 125Watts/120vac. I needed to file down ridges some on the bottom of Trans to make it easier for Heating Pad to stick to Trans. I plugged in Block, Oil Pan and Trans Heater pads for over two hours this morning getting TFT145*F, WT135*F and IT95*F with outside temp in the garage at 60*F . With all Grill Covers on temps dropped about 10*F for the first minute with outside temps 40*F and 2.4mi. trip, TFT145*F, WT182*F and IT64*F when I got to work. For those with ScanGaugeII here are the Codes you need to add to get Transmission Fluid Temp:TXD: 07E6221E1C RXF: 0462051E061C RXD: 3010 MTH: 00900320020 NAM: TFT :) Paul

As it turns out the bottom grill does most of the cooling and is the one that needs to be opened up during the Summer for those long up hill grades. Getting an OBD-II reader like ScanGauge or Torque lets you see the big picture. :) P.S. You need to close off the whole front end during the Winter when it is cold. Paul

Strange, long wooooo sound at steady speeds, ICE on

Where are three microphones? :) Paul -
Here is a test Tire Rack did with Prius that had Michelin and Goodyear among others: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/TireTestServlet?tireMakeModel=Michelin_Energy+Saver+A%2FS_1 :) Paul

It is amazing how much difference tires can make on fuel mileage, my daughter's Prius lost 6mpg installing Cooper LLR that the Toyota talked her into, they were cheap. You get what you pay for, IMHO :) Paul

I got 64Kmi. from my first set of Michelin's and stayed with them, I like the MPG's to much. I would be curious as to what MPG's you get with the Goodyear Fuel Max, I put a set of the Fuel Max's on my 2007 Focus and probably gained 4-5mpg over the Pirelli's it came with. :) Paul

What about changing the balance front to back and side to side. :) Paul -
Wonder if it's a poor connection at the 12v battery, weird. ;) Paul
-
I have a i5 with cover that is aluminum on the back so I put my phone face down on the cradle in front of CD slot and it doesn't get very hot in the summer. :) Paul
-
You mean at 4K you actually have tire wear, LOL, I got 64K out of mine. :lol2: Paul
-
If you use your jumper battery to connect to positive and negative post under the hood you don't have to reset all your settings when you are working on the 12v battery. :) Paul
-
Has anyone done any testing? I really hate to give up any MPG's and with 90Kmi I can't complain about the tires in any conditions, snow, rain and Hot. :) Paul

Fuel injector failure every 37,000 miles
ptjones replied to Recumpence's topic in General Discussion
Matt I have 90Kmi. on mine now and only had a rear wheel bearing. Sorry to hear about your problems. Sounds like you replaced your injectors yourself. Good Luck. :) Paul -
How do you know you get to 180*F? The thermostat doesn't start to open up until 180*F and isn't totally open till 202*F. Operating temp is 202-212*F so it would take you 10-15min. more to get to 202*F if you even get there. BTW I have seen lots of SEMI's with shutters in front of their radiators as well as snap on covers to minimize cold air flow. As it turns out FORD went over board on the cooling system for the CMAX and you can keep the center grill covered all year long with no problems with getting hot during the summer going up long uphill grades from my many experiences. :) Paul

Best Highway Cruising Speed for MPG's
ptjones replied to stratosurfer's topic in 2013 Ford C-MAX Hybrid
Using A/C can hurt your MPG's 2-3mpg or more. With temps 70-80's I have been able to 47mpg on the I-10 FWY with my aero mods and some drafting. I take advantage of P&G when I can too. At 55mph I can get around 55mpg and 40mph around 70mpg. At 30mph should get about 80mpg and going any slower gets to be time prohibitive. CMAX uses CVT(continuous variable transmission) so there is no over drive. You do want to be in high gear and not low. :) Paul
