Sounds like a good challenge to me ptjones, I'm try to set a new all time high mpg myself. I'm up to 44.7 AvMPG so far all in town
-
Ok just to let everyone know I'm working hard to close in on that elusive 600+ tank. But I feel my present tank is my best opportunity so far if it is going to happen. This mornings commute around Cupertino saw still another benchmark AvMPG. I scored a 44.7 on city surface streets while driving 30mph average. I'm closing in on 300 miles for the first half of the tank and that has never happened before for my CMax. That puts me in good position for a 600 tank but experience tells me that the second half won't be as good as the first half. But if I keep doing my best to turn good numbers as it has so far, anything can happen. Stay tuned as I seek the almighty 600+ tank.

They are working fine as I have said in earlier posts. Biggest sign that they are doing something is how clean my rear bumper stays, way less turbulence since adding them and I attribute my stabilized AvMPG to at least in part to the GasPods. 2 months ago I was lucky to maintain 40AvMPG in town with constant falling off into the high 30's. The last two weeks I've managed to hold on to 44.3 with very conservative driving. Paying close attention to my braking and making sure I stay below the 2 bar limit when I'm accelerating. My job has me driving about 30 miles each day on city surface streets averaging between 25 to 35mph in mostly residential area's. I'm noticing my biggest improvement under these driving conditions. At one point this morning I looked down and I had scored a 44.6AvMPG. 2 months ago I was lucky to even stay above 39AvMPG. Coming home I decided to get on the freeway, I wanted to see if I could build up my speed gradually to 65 and maintain the 44.6AvMPG all the way home. As I merged onto the freeway I kept just under the 2 bar level, trying not to go over. By gradually increasing my speed to 65 and then locking in the ECO Cruise, I was able to maintain 44.5 all the way home (12 miles). Only losing 1 tenth which I feel was because a portion the route has varying levels of incline and would kick in the ICE but it was mode where you get a blend of ICE and EV. It is obvious that my biggest improvement since getting the update is that I do much better now with slower speed city driving. But not to say that my freeway miles hasn't also got better and more predictable. I'm able to maintain a constant AvMPG throughout my freeway miles as well. To close with my conservative driving on this tank, trip1 has registered a first for Maxus, 195 miles, almost 200 miles on the first 1/4 tank. That is a big improvement over the last year.

thats the name I gave to my CMax

Mark, I use my A/C everyday 100% of the time here on the west coast and today I got 44.5 while driving on city streets and averaging 35-40mph mostly flat roads with some medium hills

I agree with ScubaDadMiami at least Ford is fessing up to their mistake, I doubt I could say the same for GM
-
good news, I could use it. The wifes car (Saturn) is falling apart

Has there been a distribution of these yet? Anybody get one yet? Just curious.

I hope not since I like to stand out from the crowd by doing things that aren't too loud or gaudy but different over everyone else. :)

Jus thanks for taking the time to throw all of this together, very informative and much appreciated. Very informative for me and I'm sure everyone else on the forum. On a side note, I didn't realize both our platinum's came down the assembly line so close together. Kissing cousins basically as my rolled off on September 20th and birth date of September 9th :happy feet:

Has anyone installed an amplifier in their C-Max?
mtb9153 replied to HotPotato's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
I have the premium sound system in my CMax and I do know that there is a black external amp mounted underneath the rear seat. Maybe a bi-amp for the subwoofer? I don't know been years since I dealt with aftermarket car stereo stuff. -
Anyone getting better MPG with the new update?
mtb9153 replied to armoredsaint's topic in General Discussion
My mileage has increased and stabilized as a result of the upgrade. But I do get better mileage driving in town at the 35-40 range. Really notice the tenths (.1) of a mile increasing in the 25-30 mph range. -

In fact I drive at 65 all the time now on the freeway. -

Yup no problem with driving at 65 up to 70 in EV. Guess I'm lucky I still have my EV+. They didn't go away after getting the first update done either -
is the noise mostly when you first start up? Mine does this at first and goes away after up to temp. Sort of a buzzing sound I hear with the start on a cold engine.

Hang in there give the computer time to settle in with the update. Maxus was the same way for the first tank or 3. Now it is more consistent and staying between 41.3 to 44.5 with my regular city commute. After the upgrade it seems my AvMPG stays in that range pretty much of the time. When I shut down after driving for awhile, my trip1 screen has been as high as 53mpg. You should settle down in time, at least mine did.

Thanks for the info will have to get out my gorilla ramps and climb underneath Maxus for a look

I didn't loose my EV+ settings with the upgrade even right from the moment I drove home from the dealer. -
Yes I'm very pleased that for my first full year there were no mechanical problems requiring a service call. I've not been able to say from other cars I've owned over the years from GM and Chrysler, especially GM. My GMC Typhoon and Syclone seemed to spend more time at the dealers garage than my own. Also my Pontiac Trans Am back in 1974. I don't understand the old jokes that FORD stood for "fix or repair daily" or "found on road dead".

Hello ERPriest, well first off I don't think there is anything wrong with your AvMPG readings. I just wish my one year old CMax was doing the same. This week my driving has been staying between 43.9-44.3. I have almost 18k miles and I've never been able to drive in the high 40's to low 50's mpg for any length of time. It wasn't until after I got the upgrade which allows for EV driving up to 85mph that I was maintaining an AvMPG number higher than 40. High 30's were the norm for my CMax.

Today is my Maxus first birthday according to Ford Etis. Live long and prosper. First year no problems requiring service other than upgrades. Good job Ford.

Good thoughts about this aerodynamics stuff. Makes me want to jump right in with my designing an undercarriage panel to fill that hole under the cargo area and route it out the back under the rear bumper. Create a rear air diffuser like so many of the Euro race cars. I will offer my unused black GasPods which mount using a super sticky adhesive. Now that I've found the ideal position for my magnetic painted GasPods I'm not using them. First person to contact me with an address, I will ship them off. Make this a play-it-forward sort of deal. Try them and see if they work for you, then after you order some magnetic pods ship the black ones either back to me or off to someone else who wants to try them.

Tool for the third dimension - mapping route altitude
mtb9153 replied to fbov's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
A bit warm today Eh? we high 91 in the bay area today -
I have to say that I am starting to think there is something wrong with my Maxus. I repeatedly see from most of you that you are cruising around recording mpg in the 50's, 60's and even higher. No matter how conservatively I drive and do everything right I can't get out of the low to mid 40's in everyday driving. On the other hand I started this week at 40AvMPG and today I crossed into the 44AvMPG range but quickly fell back to 43.6 It is becoming so frustrating to not be able to improve and get consist reading in the 50's or higher.
