  1. Power - theres no button to press. YOU decide with your right foot. Now Mr.OP, are you sure you do not want a nice, pleasant, green, sunshine loving, green fields with blue skies with a backdrop of beautiful black/white moo-moo cows in the background, ♪ ♫ whistling ♫ ♪ music ♪Prii♪ now? Its a great little Japanese car. R u sure you want all the controversy with the CMax...the MPG, the dead battery, the windows rolling down. Jus playing the Devils Advocate here...and I do well, I know, I have no car at the moment...except this wee lil no-guts thing called a Toyota....
  2. Frank - as a followup, what gains have you seen since the hood sealing project? Was it worth the time and material? Paul - did you do something similar?
  3. Matt - any chance you can dump some picks of your lower grill and fog light work? If this holds true...much to be gained by the lower grill cover and the covering of the fog lights. I am not convinced of the pizza wheel covers...+my wifey would have my head on them....shes already LHAO over the Gas Pods.
  4. Funny, I considered Air Tabs as part of the research but ended up being persuaded with the magnetic gas pods. I presume your airtabs was set around 1 to 1 1/2" from the edge of the rear shelf, similr to the way most of us set our gas pods?
  5. ..and we appreciate your service
  6. Well Happy Belated Birthday to your better half, Frank :) Let us know if she reads this forum, I'll be more than happy to start a Birthday thread ;)
  7. I agree - confirmation bias was on top of my :airquote: be wary which is why I did my tests before I got the gas pods and even when it was not on my mind so that I know I was driving the max for it. Then I apply the same driving style to the ones with gas pods. Also, interestingly - as you observed, I took it off and got better (to work) than my pre-gas pods but not as near as I got with the gas pods....but still ended the same as the pre-gas pods averages. It doesn't matter, I am going to repeat this test once Maxine comes home since I have baselines to compare and see if the accident has hurt her in other ways...I am not done yet. I did read your tuft test with great interest, and while I accept the airflow from the top appears clean all the down mid rear window, then the turbulence takes over as you can clearly see the tufts next to the number plate go outward. So what the hell are the Gas Pods doing to make it glide much better then when its on the top rear shelf as logically just based on the tuft, we should not disturb it? Perhaps does it do something to the air beyond the tuft measured area, analogically, be like seeing only the front of the tornado but not knowing the inner bands and inside are doing? Also could it be better to have the side placement of Gas Pods be a much better improvement? Or do them both? ptjones - you have the car, pods and time to do some tuft test on this, as well as a very understanding wife who would be willing to be chase car? Brother Mike? I would luv to see some real wind tunnel on our car....Ford probably has this.
  8. PS on a side note, if someone here did a "man on the street" video tape and asked them "Do you think it would be fun to have mustard gas on your hot dog?" 99 out of 100 would think it would be so. They have no idea what mustard gas is. Mustard=good. Mustard gas=Sounds good on a hot dog....but I could be wrong, since the man on the street is extremely intelligent and make great choices. Jimmy Kimmel anyone?
  9. So how did you end up on that side of the border, better water ;) I :flirt: the story and the fact that is was FACT makes it more sweet....should be made into a movie, we could do with more stories such as these instead of 5th version of Terminator :drop:
  10. Poppy day :) Yep, we also have ANZAC day in Aus as well, April 25....the Australian New Zealand Army Corp. I keep few books in my house and rarely remember them and I am glad, I read All Quiet on the Western Front when I was young and that my school actually taught me about WW1. War Horse is another great movie as well and it just saddens me the world has not changed and there is still evil in this world to be vigilant againt.
  11. Thank you Laurel for remembering it is Veterans Day. Whilst we all drive our CMaxs and take for granted the enjoyment of freedom, how the world would now look if not for the courage, sacrifice of those who served in the armed forces throughout the world. Whether you are in the Marines, Army, Air Force, Navy, ANZACS, Canadian, Gurkhas....today is their day to remember and have a drink with their mates at the pub. Whilst we may all agree that we disagree on the politics, you cannot, you cannot forget the vets who gave you what you now take for granted. Lest we forget.
  12. Rather than start another "improvement" thread, please take all suggestions to: Improve the CMax - your thoughts thread. Closing this thread for now :)
  13. The Trip computers are probably the most useful tools in the car for tracking. For me, Trip 1 ALWAYS tracks my tank. I reset this and the Avg MPG everytime when I fill up. Trip 2 - I use it to track my miles per day. I reset this before I pull the car out of the garage and when I get home, I snap a picture. During the day, I can see how I am tracking as well at each waypoint eg each stop. There no right or wrong way to use the Trip - jus be consistent so you don't confuse yourself when you read it.
  14. Anytime you wait, its always better. Wait enuf, and you will eventually get that 64 core cpu with 64 terabyte of RAM, all in the size of your watch.... but you may be a little skeleton to enjoy it... :twister:
  15. Yep, they started...23 days from end of last week. Assuming they get all the parts from Ford and we all know how that goes...
  16. :noobie: ...Got questions jus PM.... Adair.... ;) :stirpot:
  17. I'm not on the black theme but still think the black pods makes a nice contrast to the white and gells with the black trim and rear liftgate window. Me like...now, if only I had my CMax back....
  18. salsaguy-PM me mate...I cleared out a whole bunch of my PMs.
  19. Don't be, I got lucky. And its jus a coincidence of the :gold_star: s above that I recently had some additional calls.... My take away after all the calls that I got: 1. There are A LOT of drivers there who do not know how to drive FE. The dealers only say "this car will teach you how to drive". Really. Those of you lucky to be here, please LEARN from us old posters, we :flirt: to help. 2. On the opposite scale - a few drivers have blown past what miles I have driven, more like Matt up in the high 20s or 30s by now. I didn't hear any stellar MPGs but some of them are in the 50s averages. So thats some good news. stellar, I mean > 60 mpgs. 3. They all luv their car and they all seemed to know they may not achive the 47s as advertised and some of them come from gas guzzlers so anything above 35MPG is still great. Can't fault them, not everyone is a FE driving coocoos like the 700+ Mile Clubbers. 4. Same story: power, view and driveability HUGE +. They all hated the Prii for those same reasons. 5. Reason to buy a hybrid: gas prices. Also being on this site has taught me alot about the impact of aerodynamics on MPG, which interest me but not a cup of tea for most of them. Sometimes when they are asked to evaluate shapes, they still pick the most in-efficient shapes and call it "cool & LIKE"...ssssh.
  20. You're pretty good, jus move the end ones back. If you look at your pics the end ones are about 1" while the other vary 1 1/2 to 2". They should all be the same distance from the edging. As to how effective these minor adjustments are - I cannot tell since the obvious happened but I was starting to think & establish the 1 1/2 was better than the 1. I would luv to see your stats.
  21. Yep, but they have insurance, or a lawsuit. Or both. Dick Van Dyke's brand spanking new Jaguar went up in flames as well...so it does happen. Any fires are OUCH for the companies.
  22. Tesla should advetise with this hit song: "C'mon BABY light my fire!!.....c'mon baby light my fire...." :dj:
  23. Jus a suggestion.....set'em up 1 1/2 inch from top edge. The end ones look out of kilter.
  24. Yeah...but Matt carries around 300lbs of equipment and he's a Rock :gold_star: with his CMax, blowing the 47 even driving highway. Ah...at the hands of a skilled CMax pilot, oh what can be... Boy, I miss my Maxine... :waiting:
  25. lol, thanks for the reminder frank.... :drop:
