Day 3: Biplane is getting better MPG, finished the day with 32.2 MPG and that was climbing up Conejo grade at 70mph which I won't do to save gas in the CMax but I did with the Focus. One definite thing - Focus :wub2: the freeways at speed, its like its got a nice tall gear and if it had an instant MPG, I would say this thing does 40MPG at those speeds (based on my resetting the Avg MPG on the freeway so for a short while it was reading true freeway MPG only). However, this does not match my tank watch, it down to a 1/4 tank today and its only 3 days of driving. I do the same route and all and it's will stll be 3/4 tank easily in the CMax and I think a lot of gas is wasted by me cruising the surface street (which is all EV for me in the CMax). Still prefer my Stealth Fighter but shes still in the shop. A Ford rep is actually working on her with the shop supervisor, fingers cross I get her back tomorrow, all fixed :drool:

*cough*..*cough*...to be a nutcase, u have to have a "Nutz" thread, a towel of sweat as you drove beyond the red zero....or be a mod. Oh, the latter :hi5: PS Congratulations Snow...now did u get the Nav or not? Doesn't matter, it would have been 3.5.1 and u would have been fine. Nice car....great drivers always pick white :happy feet:

12.51 is still good, if that was my car, I would have taken it to 12.80 or .90 and that would have given you the extra miles, but as I always said, it takes some balls to get use to this low gas and having such miles (hence my insurance). Good stuff...I so look forward to adding all of you guys to the club list. And the good news is that it's very possible...4 have done it and now at least 2 have come super close, its just a matter of time :rockon: :wub2: likes to frbill and davidwitham ...c'mon fellas :drool:

Ouch Adair....those pics of the Nav are terrible. Suggest you print those pictures and take it to your Ford dealer and have them examine your GPS unit like what I did. You may get a biplane as well... ;)

Hee..c'mon, its a biplane. It has some nostalgic value in there, somewhere... ;)

Matt, don't let the weather be a factor. I kept up with fuelly even when I had the 2 x 33MPG tanks in the snowing and freezing conditions to Mammoth, it is what it is. Same when I climb steep grades/hills and canyons as you pay for it one way and get back more the other way. I can definitely see 50+ MPGs if I just lived and just drove in the city all day and night, but I don't so my MPGs aren't as hight, plus its a fun game anyway. Cheers :)

Looks like Maxine is in for another day and the biplane continues...well, I find it amusing because of the similarity of the drone from the prop with the drone from the engine (abliet a lot more quieter). One thing - this Focus is pretty good MPGs on the freeways at speed. It was clocking up to 40MPG (when I reset the gauge in the middle of the freeway) but then it dropped to 29MPGs as I climbed and did my usual stuff on the surface streets. In comparaison, Maxine would give me 49+MPGs at least with this drive..especially down Box Canyon to Valley Circle...full EV. Focus corners nicely in the canyon road as well but not the same percision or smoothness. I was also in the Encino Hills area, same areas as where I got 70+MPG over 12 miles and it was not the same --- all the braking in the Focus was just that, braking. No EV, no full battery...*sigh*...sometimes I wonder how we all did without our hybrids...

:rockon: Excellent, glad you liked it and hope you got some information out of it. It was a test of the car and I think the CMax passed with flying colors but I liked seeing the consistency in the improvements. Yeah, Ventura is a nice county to live in. I can think of several areas I like to move to...one day. Less tax is also a huge incentive but unfortunately, right now is not a good time for me.

I think people will start getting better and better MPGs. At the start it was ptjones and I (where the heck is ptjones nowadays!!!) because, lets face it, we both did our miles and had the weather in GA/AZ and CA, and then we started having more people come on board pulling some nice mileage aka recumpence, catsailor and some others are close mtb for instance, or catmobile....and JohninOhio, and Adair....jus give it time (and weather?). If I missed someone earlier than that, I apologize but thats the memory I had when I joined the board about in about Dec... As I said, come end of summer, I would expect 6 to 10 people in the 600 Mile Club (including u Mr. Riddley, you're A prime candidate and Adair as she IS GOING TO GET HER 500 tank! She better....). :)

I did want to trade in my CMax for a Prii....then Adair woke me up from my Zombie sleep by beating me up on the net....kinda like Indiana Jones got burnt by the lil sidekick in the Temple of Doom.... "Wake up Dr Jones!! Wake Up!"..... ;) Gonna be doing some more appraisal traveling in the Focus Biplane tomorrow, should be fun to see how this car drives up and down the canyons. Oh boy...thats another thing I will miss...doing Box Canyon in a biplane, and NO EV!!!!!!!!!!!

I think alot of people forget one of the main reasons hybrid came into existence in the 1st place - the stop and go traffic in the city...yeah, in those conditions she a killer app, no wonder the 50+. Hey is that you car in the avatar with the 5 spoke wheels?

So did you get the MFT with the Nav in the end? (unless I missed it). Congratulations :)
