Oxnard, sorry about the thread jack but I wanted to see where this discussion is going since it went slightly OT - that does happen sometimes. I will leave this thread open for the time being in the hopes we can ALL get back to working out and discussing your original issue. Let's contribute everyone, thats what this forum is all about. catsailor, I tried to get some sort of forum badge for us on this forum but I've not heard anything from robertlane or adair. It will be kinda like in the section underneath the avatar where it current says "C-MAX Hybrid Member" we may have a "600 Mile C-Max Club Member" underneath it. I know they can do this on other boards but its a question of software and thats Robertlane's territory. The best thing is a avatar bage with a CMax and "600" on it, that would be cool but someone has to come up with the graphics for that :) I think its worthy of that - given we are making such strides on the CMax front. So, for now, lets just carry a link in the signature as a token of membership. I am hoping to get at least 6 to 10 members before summer has ended, that includes Adair.... :sing_rain:

Adair - if not for the Kanan, Pacific Palisades and Topanga Canyon hills/grades I had to climb and the fuel burnt, the 650 mile barrier would have been broken but it is what it is, I had to drive and work and not play. I seriously think that if I decide to go on vacation for a week and just play with Maxine, with the right terrain (and I know where they are), the 700 mile is achievable. However, to me its not realistic as it then becomes a scientific experiment...and I have to use Maxine for work. It is what it is...someone else can break the 700, or 650...ptjones and I have done our bit for the CMax world (which I think we are the 1st to achieve at the same time). By the way, I don't think anyone on fuelly has even come close to the 4 drivers on this forum for the 600+ a tank miles...we have quality, drivers here abliet they have some "nutz" in 'em ;)

Yes, yes, yes catsailor - it can be done easily but as I posted in my review - only if you're "comfortable" going that low on the fuel, which some people are not. I don't blame them, some people have errands to run or kids to drop off and can't afford to play up, or just don't want to carry a spare tank. Fair enuf. This is the 1st 600 tank, the next one is easier to do because you've now psychologically broken the thru this 1st barrier and it gets easier and easier, each tank and you'll push the limits of the tank up to the 13.0 gallons used, and clock more miles per tank. Watch... By the way, my advice is to just watch the gallons used, the yellow/red and zero miles left warnings are useless as my "Nutz" thread proves. With red, zero in the estimated and a Pacific Palisades grade to climb, it should not have been possible but it can be done, and then throw in another bonus canyon road: Topanga Canyon. Ssssh...the stuff I do in with this car.

This afternoon, I had a neighbour come and check out my CMax. I was walking to the car and he was exercising. He wanted to see the inside and asked about the mileage...yep, 47MPGs and 600 miles a tank. He drives a Camry and him and I had a short talk about the Camry, I use to own one until it started puking on me. Amazing how the CMax gets the looks and questions...Ford is onto to something....but we all knew that ;)

Thats too weird for me Riddley....I'll just stick to my Hawaiian music for therapy and enjoyment. Now, my wifey in a Hawaiian Hula skirt ain't too bad either ;)

Wow, I thought I was spending too much time but it sounds like you practically have a kitchen and a bed in your CMax there ;) Thats the thing, I could move my office to the car in between jobs but I am hesitant to do that, this is my car and its going to stay a car and not convert it to an office. Plus my wife would go nutz if I start hanging stuff from the car or glue things or attach things. I still have to carry her around when we go on our snow trips. Yeah, at those speeds, that is strength of the CMax EV, no wonder you easily get those MPGs, as compared to me going up and down those canyons and between valley freeway/roads. Go get those miles Recumpence :rockon: PS I Nearly thought about starting a thread about not spending so much time and taking a day off from my CMax but then again, I thought - theres probably about a handful of drivers who spend the hours there like you and I, the other 98% just :wub2: more time in their cars. Disaster, be like wishing a blizzard while lounging in the warm Hawaiian beaches ;)

We need a good laugh now and then, its what makes the site fun, if I am the bug butt of the joke so be it ...but Adair is as much to blame ;) fotomoto - I think every car has some weirdness or oddity. What I do like is that Ford, in the Irvine meeting, really really reached out to actual owner/drivers on their thoughts - for this, they have earned major points in my books. Never seen any other company do this but then again, I have only ever owned a Toyota, Jaguar and now Ford so I am somewhat limited.

Fingers crossed, that is awesome news...I hope Ford comes thru this time, this is the biggest pain in the neck in what is otherwise a SUPERB vehicle :rockon:

Ouch!!!!! Its probably a write off looking at the pictures - at least hope it is, better to get a new car than one that was damaged. Glad you're OK...hope they find that fool...could have killed someone :rant2:

Theres always discrepancy. I've had 1 instance where Maxine reported more gas used than what I filled up but most of the time, Maxine is under reporting by about 0.2 to 0.5 gallons and it varies, pump to pump. Which is why I just always based my miles left judgement on the gallons used - to me this is the most consistent (hope it is anyway). Matt - at those MPGs, it sounds like doable but it's still ways to go. ptjones did originally say a 700 is doable but I dunno, imo it needs the right conditions to do it but not conditions available to me and my work, but perhaps your end is better suited. What kind of terrain and speeds are you driving?

What do you do when your CMax has 515 on the tank, 100 estimated miles left and the day says you have at least 118 miles of road to trek? For most normal CMax drivers - first stop - the Gas Station. If you'r nutz like me, you'll say..."Lets do this". Enjoy the read ;) 1st leg - run from San Fernando to Camarillo. For those who know this area, it's the Mission Oaks neightborhood. I do this leg in my sleep and pretty comfortable number via the 118 and then cutting thru Tierra Rejada to Santa Rosa rd. However, I get there and I have hills to climb to reach the houses - ugh. Burn more gas. Tank is yellow but says I have 55 miles left. Comfortable with that.... 2nd leg - I am done, now it's time to head to Wizen Centre in Agoura Hills for some lunch. Burn more gas as this part of the Santa Rosa Rd is uphill and then hit the "Norweigian" grade...more up hill....and then to the 101, climb up the a little more before going downslope on the 101 to get off at Kanan and the Wizen Centre. Tank in yellow. Lunch was great. 3rd leg. Climb Kanan Rd. I know this road which connects the 101 to the PCH. Nice drive, not too much traffic, nothing too severe in the grade but there are about 3 or 4 relatively long grades you need to climb before peaking and then its an automatic full battery CHARGE!!!!!!!!!! Down...down....down....EV....EV..... :yahoo: Hit the PCH and cruise down to Sunset, make a left and then left on Pacific Palisades Dr....oooops....UP HILL!!!! My tank is red, its saying ZERO and I have another hill to climb and its not little hill as my subject is on the top - you know, the killer view house that is right on peak top, UP THERE and I have red tank :waiting: So I climb, drive around on the top to shoot some more houses, windows all down to enjoy the smell of the sea breeze. About 12.6 gallons used. Sweating but the breeze is cool. 4th leg. I am screwed. I have a red tank, zero estimate left. I use my advice...u know the one I give out to everyone else... and start to watch my "Gas Used". Ugh. Lucky I got my spare tank today. Going down Pacific Palisades was easy peasy - no gas used. God I :wub2: the CMax. Cruise the PCH to Topanga, I must have passed like 4 CHP or Sheriffs motor bikes just watching the speeders on the PCH. I drive a hybrid, I have no fuel, on fumes so no-way-hosay-r-u-gonna-ticket-me for speeding. Climbing Topanga was the worse. Watching my gas used like a hawk...when I reach the peak...12.90 gallons used. It's now downhill, I think I can do this - I think I can reach the Costco in Northridge.......TALLY HO!!!!!! Again, cruise down - zero gas used, full battery by the time I reached Ventura and I am almost home. Knowing my luck, I'll "ptjones it" (the 1st CMax driver that I know who ran out of gas) just before I get to the gas station... Cross over the 13.0 gallons threshold. Wow, never used this much gas before. Ugh. Add another 0.01 and another...and another. Make a left on Tampa....add another... Gonna be close. I did it. So what was the end result.... Here are the numbers by the legs: Here's the googlemap: Next time, just tank up like everyone else.....nutz. But then, it ain't me, is it ;)

Updated Post#1 with Recumpence 604 miles and 643.3 miles from moi today (my 7th tank)..and this one was an adventure...even scared me for a while...I'll post it in another post. Wifey can't say I don't MAX my Maxine :) 650 is doable, already clocked 2 x 640+ tanks :rockon: 700 is tough unless you don't drive any hills/mountains and keep to speed < 55mph where the Max is most efficient and do it all week long. I think after so many tanks, for my line of work and terrain, 640 to 650 miles per tank is it for me and it's literally running on fumes when I hit the Costco gas station. Good stuff Recumpence, lets get some more numbers up there and shoot some pics for the forums, everyone's got a camera phone right ;)

Welcome to the forum! That is a nice start and congratulations! In regards to your question, the engine break-in is a long process, that is, it's a lot of miles and it's not instantenous either. Based on my experience, it really starts at 3,000 and shows gradual improvement to 10,000 or 11,000 miles before leveling out. Take a read of my review of the CMax here: Jus another Cmax Review in which I graphed my engine over this span and the MPG improvements. However, that is not to say everyone is going to get this as engine loads/use vary driver by driver. Also in the review, you'll find some hints and tips on getting the most out of the CMax if you choose to drive it fuel efficiently - but theres nothing to stop you from driving it like a normal car either which other posters here have and still get great mileage. Thats the beauty about the CMax, its all up to you and no magic button to press :)

Nice BigRed :) , great start. Get the feel of feathering the EV and add more MPGs, every little bit helps (as I found out). I am glad my lil notes helped someone, you're well on your way to some nice MPGs :rockon:

Its worth it...I was going SE model but got spoiled. The rear camera is a MUST HAVE imo, it allows you to back the car close and watch for pedestrians even in the dark. Well worth mentioning is the Song entertainment system. Really nice sound! Really...try playing some Hawaiian slack guitar, you'll hear ever nuances in the music. This was a review I did this past weekend: Jus another CMax review It deals with all the issues and gives people ideas on how to drive fuel efficient - and NOT at a snail pace at Freeway speeds. May be a good read...and yes, I did achieve the 47+ MPG tank, after tank, after tank. Now, did the hubby like the golf bag placement? If you have more questions ask away but my suggestion would be to try and keep it within the 1 thread that you started and we'll answer it. Glad u are finding this website useful and knowledgeable, thats what we're all about and we're all owner/drivers. :)
