Open invitation and question to those struggling with their mileage.
HannahWCU replied to Recumpence's topic in Fuel Mileage
My insights into AC use: When I first cut the AC on the kwh gauge will go real high, but as the car cools, the kwh will drop to below what "other" is showing. I don't use Max AC, but I do use "auto" and start at a temp of 75. Once the interior reaches 75, if the interior isn't cool enough, I drop the temperature in one degree increments until I am comfortable. This doesn't seem to use a ton of battery this way. -
They ALWAYS kill my mileage. But I have never noticed how many miles they drove it. I will next time.

For most people I should think nothing really. But if you touch your screen in one place and the system thinks you touched it in another. Calibrating the screen might solve the problem. Also, as ceemax71 stated in his post, your radio will need to be on FM.

I have not tried this since I watched him but, hold down the CD eject and the right seek button. The stereo will start playing tones cycling through each speaker. Then press and hold the left seek. This should bring up the calibration screen. When finished, the screen says to press enter to exit this screen, but we had to turn the car off. Hope this helps.

I got the CMax back. Has the Update. Everything worked fine on the 30 minute drive home. As a side note, when I first got the car, the touch screen was not working right. When I tapped "phone" it took me to the climate screen. Took it right back in, the service manager (who is the sync expert) came out and showed me how to calibrate the touch screen. Once we did that, everything was fine. Thanks to everyone for keeping this forum up to date!

I have actually done this. There is a grade near Asheville, NC that is a 6% grade for 6 miles. In my experience, Hill Decent Mode is just like pressing the brake petal lightly, it increases the regeneration effect from the electric motor. When using Hill Decent Mode, if I lightly press on the brake petal, I don't feel an increase in regen (i.e. slowing down) as i would with the Hill Decent off. Once the battery gets close to full capacity (about 95%) the ICE will automatically engage (but use no fuel) to retard your downhill run. This would be the same as placing the gear selector in "L" as the engine RPM was fairly high (it was loud). Although I didn't try this as I was traveling in excess of 55mph and didn't want anything bad to happen (LOL). I assume the engine engages due to the fact that once the battery is full, the motor can no longer provide regeneration as there is no where for the energy to go. It is all automatic once in Hill Decent Mode and pretty cool in my opinon. I hope this helps.

UPDATE: The Dealer has had my Cmax since 9AM, just called (3:15PM) them to ask if it was ready. They said they had a hard time with the MFT update, had to call Ford to help with it. The service manager is also their Sync expert, was told he was the one working on it all day. But they said it is complete now (I hope). We will see in about an hour when I pick it up. :waiting:

It would be nice to be able to see this. I had my oil changed early (~5000 miles) using the free first oil change that my dealer offers and the dealer didn't reset the Oil Life Monitoring system. Now, at 10,000 miles, my CMax is telling me to change the oil! I called the dealer and he told me that I could bring it in or the owners manual should explain how I can do it myself. I then pointed out that if I reset it now, it wouldn't notify me for another 10,000 miles, which is 5,000 to long. He then said he could reset the oil life monitor to 50%. I am biting the bullet and having the oil changed.

Just scheduled my CMax for tomorrow for the MFT Update, TSB 13-5-1 update and for an oil change. I will let you know how it goes. :waiting:

You beat me by a second or two on that post! :worship:

I believe this is the GPS fix he is refering to: http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/1496-navigation-gps-fix-tsb-13-3-11-fix-for-unable-to-locate-vehicle-etc/

I have been looking for information on xgauge codes for using my scangauge in my CMax. From another forum I found the code(s) for the State Of Charge. There are two: TXD: 07E4224801 RXF: 046205480601 RXD: 3008 MTH: 00850064FFB0 NAM: SoC And TXD: 07E4224801 RXF: 046245480601 RXD: 3010 MTH : 000100050000 NAM:SOC I have purposely made the name (NAM:) different on both for clarity. I believe that SOC code displays the actual state of charge for the battery and the SoC code displays "useful" charge. I have read where to extend the life of batteries, hybrids don't use all the capacity of thier batteries. In other words, it doesn't charge it to 100% and discharge it to 0%. I have been running both gauges simultaneously on my scangauge for a few days and this is what I have found: When SoC reads 100 - SOC reads 69.7 When SoC reads 80 - SOC reads 62.1 When SoC reads 70 - SOC reads 58.0 When SoC reads 50 - SOC reads 50.4 When SoC reads 30 - SOC reads 42.7 This is pretty close to linear, with each 1% on SoC = 0.38 on SOC. If I do my math right that would mean that the Cmax Hybrid keeps its battery charge between 31.5% and 69.7%. So it uses just over 38% of its capacity. So this backs up what I read about Hybrids not using the full capacity of the batteries. Any thought on this? BTW, the SoC code reflects what the Cmax bar graph shows.

Only worry if they start rolling out from under the car! LOL

Thanks, that is exactly what my point was. And yes my degree is in engineering, however, I work as a Safety and Environmental person in industry so I am use to reading technical reports/regulations and reading between the lines. I agree that long term, plug in BEV's will be cleaner because, as the report says, stationary sources are easier/ cheaper to clean the emmissions than from mobile sources. But it was nice to see that they stated (although stated indirectly) that the realative cleaness of the emissions of BEV was dependant on way the electricity is generated.

My regular drive home yesterday. Note, this was mostly (90%) highway at 60-65mph as opposed to my previous posting where I took a rural route to keep my speeds in the 45-55mph range.

I thought I had a shot at 600 today, but the weather (rain and cool, mid 40's) conspired against me. I filled up halfway home from Asheville, had 550 miles on the tank and filled up with 12.3 gallons. 44.6 mpg. Still good but I know I can do better.

Doing a quick scan of the analysis, I noticed something interesting. On page 9 they show a Energy and Emissions Per Mile Table. This table shows that a BEV (battery electric vehicle) emits 0.18 kg CO2eq/mile vs. 0.35 for a CV (conventional vehicle) and 0.23 for a hybrid. Later in the paper (page 15) it shows what impact different electricity generation sources would have on the BEV emissions. It shows that if you use average emission factors for electricity generated in the US in place of emissions factors for electricity generated in California, the BEV goes from emitting 0.18 kg CO2eq/mile to 0.29 kg CO2eq/mile. Furthermore, since emissions from the CV and Hybrid should be the same no matter where in the US the gasoline is produced, outside California (and I am guessing a few other states) a Hybrid will actually produce LESS CO2 emissions over its lifetime vs. a CV or BEV. That said, I know I am oversimplifying this, but it is still interesting.

C-Max forum - now covering NC from the mountains to the sea!
HannahWCU replied to DaveofDurham's topic in Welcome
Live in Hickory, work in Statesville. Travel to both Charlotte and Asheville. -
Hickory here, my parents live in Asheville and I am heading up this weekend. Old Fort is tough on mpg going to Asheville, but great coming back! Its a 6% grade for 6 miles (1900' in elevation in 6 miles)!

Who has 3.1.3 Nav and IT WORKS PROPERLY?
HannahWCU replied to Jus-A-CMax's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
I have 3.1.3 and have never had issues. I was in the Dealer for something unrelated to the Nav and they did the TSB 13-1-11 to my car anyway, Still good, no issues. October 2012 build.
