  1. If you vehicle will go into EV mode (electric only) at speeds above 62 MPH then you have the newest Software for the engine. (the FE update). Best way to check this is next time your on the highway at 70 mph wait until a stretch of highway that is flat or a little (or alot :) ) downhill, let off the gas petal, the car should immediately go into EV mode. If the car has to slow to 62mph or below before it go into EV mode then you do not have the newest software. Hope this helps and welcome to the forum. Lots of good info here.
  2. I was looking for you! Didn't see another CMax the whole weekend. I drive those rolling hills type roads everyday, so I find it hard to maximize my FE on flat roads! I don't pulse and glide well, I'm used to pulsing uphill, and gliding down. Like another member posted, I have not seen any real difference in my day to day FE however, I am now able to drive to work at 65-70MPH vs. 55-62MPH before the update. So I guess you can say I have increase my FE, I'm driving faster and getting the same MPG.
  3. I agree, except for the transmission, everything should be possible. And if I had to guess, most of the aerodynamic improvements (tire deflectors, etc.) will be bolt on. Having worked for an Tier 1 OEM supplier, its takes time modify existing parts, especially this early in the production cycle. Whether the part is metal or plastic, molds need to be modified and that means taking the existing molds out of service. It’s much easier to just create a new part and bolt/glue/tape the part on. Now will it fit the 2013 model? I am guessing the official answer to that from Ford will be "NO". That avoids the argument as to whether the parts should be added as part of the warranty or as part of a recall. But I am betting someone will figure out a way to get them on our vehicles. ;)
  4. I sure hope the new deflectors do this, as that is one thing I would like to be able to refit onto mine. However, the press release Ford released said "the addition of rear lift gate deflectors to improve vehicle aerodynamics". Based on this, I was thinking the deflectors were being fitted to reduce drag or something similar. Where did you hear that the "rear lift gate deflectors" were mainly to keep debris off the back window?
  5. I just came back from my second trip to Myrtle Beach, SC this summer and I thought I would share my results. I basically use the same route to and from the beach. My route is a mixture of Interstates and rural highways with a few cities and towns thrown in. Speed limits are 55 or 65 mph (except in the cities). Temperatures for both trips were about the same, highs in the mid 80’s and lows in the 60’s. My CMax had over 10,000 miles on it for the first trip, so it was well broke in. Of course the first was pre-software and the last was post-software update. The distance from Hickory to Myrtle Beach is over 300 miles. Total distance for the first trip was 666.1 miles and the second was 693 miles. MPG for the first trip was 41.97 (666.1 miles on 15.869 gallons) MPH for the second trip was 45.95 (693 miles on 15.080 gallons) I understand there are a lot of variables that affect the fuel efficiency, but with an almost 10% increase in MPG, the new software, at least in this case, is working to improve my MPG.
  6. Did anyone notice that part of the 2014 CMax aerodynamic improvements include: the addition of rear lift gate deflectors to improve vehicle aerodynamics. Maybe I'm wrong, but this sounds a lot like what the gaspods are suppose to do. I believe that manufacturers don't use gaspods because, truthfully, they are ugly (sorry). Seriously, who would want them on their vehicles? Except those of us obsessed with mpg. I, for one, believe that they have potential to reduce drag and improve fuel economy. Since my daily drive is 27 miles one way and over 20 of that is interstate, I am VERY interested in seeing if these work.
  7. Yes it was. I think I averaged about 45mpg for the trip vs. 41-42 in April.
  8. You cannot text while the vehicle is moving. You must be stopped.
  9. The last 70 miles of my trip back from the beach. My last trip to the beach in April resulted in about 42mpg. And yes I have the newest software installed.
  10. When I checked the SiriusXM web site to see what type of receiver I had, it was listed as a SiriusXM radio. I could be wrong, but I don't think the free subscription includes everything. Have you called SiriusXM to see if those channels are available?
  11. I have replied using MFT. Version 3.1.3, but haven't tried since any upgrades. I have a Droid RAZR Maxx (first gen). Are you saying you don't have that option or that you can create it but it won't send?
  12. I just confirmed that Sync My Ride is telling me the same thing. Sync needs a "dealer installed update" but it also confirms that I have confirmed installation of Gen2 - V3.6.2 on Aug 9, 2013. Weird, I have an appointment scheduled for Wednesday next week and I will ask the dealer about it then.
  13. WOO HOO!! :happy feet: And you have a better average than me! :worship:
  14. Filled up for the first time since the software update. Trip meter showed ~535 miles and 48.5 mpg. No picture. But I'll post one after my vacation this weekend.
  15. Heading to Myrtle Beach Thursday thru Sunday. Wave if you see a Candy Blue with NC tags!
  16. I was traveling home yesterday on I-40 eastbound around Hickory, NC and a Sterling Gray passed me in the left lane. They must have been trying out the new software because they were doing at least 75MPH! They definitely were not on a MPG run! :shift:
  17. Umm, no offense but there are numerous threads on this in different areas of this forums. It is being discussed at length.
  18. And I agree totally. Let me ask this question (to everyone): You are Ford. You are bringing a Hybrid to market. Not just a Hybrid version of a mainstream vehicle (i.e. Fusion, Escape, etc.), but a unique Hybrid vehicle to a new market. This vehicle is WILL BE compared to the Hybrid Icon – Prius. As a corporation you have a choice to make, Have your vehicle make headlines for being rated (arguably) “best in class” fuel economy at 47/47/47 OR you can rate it 42/40/41. Both are perfectly legal under EPA rules. One will make headlines as “best in class” the other will make headlines for, well, being, at best, barely better than Hybrid versions of mainstream vehicles (i.e. Camry, Sonata, Optima, etc.) INCLUDING your own Fusion. As a corporation, Ford made the only decision they could make. Rate it at 47/47/47 and hope for the best. Did they know? ABSOLUTELY they did. Did it bite them in the butt? You bet. I would even guess that the PCM “update” was actually a viable option Ford looked at as part of their development process. But again decided to go with “Best in class”. Was this decision wrong? In hindsight, yes. But I still believe that the EPA is the root of this problem. That being said, I don't think this will ever happen again. I am sure ALL manufacturers are looking VERY closely at how they rate their cars after Hyundai screwing up their testing procedure (talk about someone who should have known) and now Ford with this PR nightmare Well said!
  19. As far as I know, yes. Google offered it for a while, then discontinued the service. I actually created an account with Mapquest and keep all my favorites from my CMax on there. Then, whenever there is an update and I loose all the favorites in sync, I just go to mapquest and send them back to the car (can only send one at a time, but it beats trying to type them in and save them all again). :yahoo:
  20. I have to admit that I don't use it that often. I find the steering wheel controls much faster to use than the voice controls for the majority of things I do with MFT. I definitely don't use voice controls to input destinations into Nav. I find it easier to use Mapquest and send the locations to my car though the Sync services or typing the locations in manually. I will say that typing the locations in is MUCH easier with 3.6 than with 3.1 (i.e. almost no double taps to get the letter to register). Maybe I am just a glass half-full person. Or since I had researched the CMAX extensively before buying it, my expectations were REALLY low to begin with.
  21. Agreed (although it was the Fusion numbers they used not the Energi).
  22. Sorry but working as an Environmental Engineer in industry for over 20 years, you do not comply with EPA rules by interpreting the "intent" of the law. With OSHA, yes you should do what the law "intends", but with the EPA, you follow the rules. Also, what exactly do think the EPA would have said if Ford DID point out this issue to the EPA? Do you think the EPA would have immediatly changed the rules? Don't get me wrong, Ford should have known better, but this issue is squarely at the EPA's feet. The EPA has not disputed Ford's numbers (that I have seen) because they can't. Ford original numbers (47/47/47) were perfectly legal under the EPA's rules. The numbers are wrong, but legal. I own Ford stock so I checked today for this exact thing. As of about 2:30PM Ford is down a little over 1% vs. the Dow down 0.25%. Doesn't look like much, if any, of a stock hit. (as I have mentioned, I own Ford stock, not much, but some) I don't see this as unethical. EVERY manufacturer does this same exact thing, with EVERY car line they have. The ONLY reason this is such a big deal is because Ford made a big deal of the C-Max getting better mileage that the Prius. And most people who are concerned about FE know the Prius generally get about what the window sticker shows. The C-Max fell short (VERY short in some VERY vocal tests). Ford did nothing wrong. Everyone seems to think Ford is being allowed to restate the numbers to save embarrassment by the EPA. I believe the EPA is letting Ford restate the numbers to save BEING embarrassed themselves. If the EPA published their findings, they would also have to explain how Ford did NOTHING wrong using numbers that were VERY wrong. To me the EPA is taking the easy way out. The general public will think Ford did something wrong and the EPA does not have to make any changes to their rules.
