  1. Plus, Has the service tech done TSB 13-3-11 to reprogram the GPSM? It should be done even if you don't have the NAV option.
  2. Plus, The MyFord Touch Supplement (link) has better information for MFT. On page 9 it says: Help! Your touchscreen system has a help feature which you can access at any time. To access: 1. Press Menu > Help. 2. From this screen you can access: Where am I?: Select to view the vehicle’s current location. If your vehicle is equipped with navigation, you will see your location on a map. If your vehicle is not equipped with navigation, or if your SD card is not inserted, you will receive your vehicle’s latitude and longitude.
  3. The only website that lists all TSB's and FSA's for the C-Max is through a paid subscription at http://www.motorcraftservice.com You can subscribe for $10.95 for 72 hours, $19.95 for a month, or $109.95 for a year (for a single vehicle type and model year). With a subscription, you enter your VIN and it will show all TSB's and FSA's with detailed service procedures. The subscription also includes access to the workshop manuals and wiring diagrams. I did a 1 month subscription to learn more about the inner workings of the C-Max. Another option is this website: http://www.vrep.fordtechservice.dealerconnection.com/vdirs/oasis/oareq.asp?broadcast=ON&from This is free and shows all of the recent (one week?) TSB's and FSA's for all Ford models but does not provide any details. If you know the TSB number, you can google it and usually find the complete TSB. Google battery "tsb 13-5-1" and you can access the 12 Volt Battery charging improvement TSB here on Ford's website. FSA details are only available through the subscription.
  4. You would come out ahead driving the 100 miles with the C-Max mpg. A good excuse for a road trip! :)
  5. The PCM (Powertrain Control Module) has to be reprogrammed (using IDS software) to support MFT 3.5.1. This was necessary to support the power consumption animation graphic. This is probably the reason it took so long for Ford hybrid vehicles to get the MFT update. Normally Sync updates can be done by the vehicle owner by downloading a file from syncmyride.com. It is possible that the new PCM software has other updates not related to MFT/Sync.
  6. The DELIVERY HOLD probably means for the dealer to do the MFT update before delivery of existing cars that do not have version 3.5.1 from the factory. Not sure about the DEMONSTRATION HOLD.
  7. FYI. This is the OASIS message issued today to Ford dealers regarding the 3.5.1 MFT upgrade. May 29 2013 6132 -UPDATE – Supplement Announcement: Application Performance Upgrade 13A01 – Supplement #1 DEMONSTRATION / DELIVERY HOLD - Application Performance Upgrade 13A01 – Supplement #1 - Certain 2012-2013 Focus Electric, 2013 C-MAX Hybrid and C-MAX Energi, and 2013 Fusion Hybrid Vehicles Equipped with MyFord Touch® - Application Performance Upgrade. Refer to FMCDealer.com.
  8. Technical Service Bulletin, a communication from Ford that addresses a known problem. The TSB describes the service procedure that needs to be done. The owner might have to prove to the dealer that the problem exists before Ford will pay for the parts & labor. TSB's are identifed by a title similar to "TSB 13-5-20" that indicates that it is the 20th TSB issued in May of 2013. See this article regarding TSB's. Field Service Action. The owner should get a letter from Ford to bring the vehicle in for the service procedure. Ford automatically pays for the parts & labor without the owner needing to prove the problem exists. An FSA can also include safety-related recalls required by the NHTSA or initiated by Ford. There are likely other subtle differences only known to the dealer and Ford. There is also a third communication called a Special Service Message (SSM). This is information from Ford acknowledging a possible problem, but the solution has not been determined or the problem may be due to unusual circumstances. See this SSM link. Sometimes the SSM is followed by a TSB or FSA that resolves the issue.
  9. From OASIS: This new software will provide the following enhancements to your current SYNC system: Return of the outside air temperature to the 8-inch displayUpdated phone processEnhanced voice and screen destination entry for SD Card Navigation (if equipped)Simplified voice commands for musicEnhancements to voice recognitionUpdated SYNC/device compatibility informationNote: an updated SD card is required for vehicles equipped with navigation
  10. On the hybrid, there is a water pump for cooling the engine and a water pump for cooling the inverter. On the Energi, there is a third water pump for the cabin heater. The Energi has a coolant loop with an electric heater (powered by the high voltage battery) to heat the cabin without the ICE running.
  11. Matt, I totally agree with you. I think this forum is one of the "cool hidden features I have discovered about my C-Max". I enjoy the humor (humour for our Canadian friends) as well as all of the great information. :) Thanks.
  12. On the Vehicle/Summary tab the build date format is month.dayday.month.year. Mine comes up as 16.03.2013. As a side note, if you click on the "Minor Features" down arrow, it shows all of the options on your C-Max as well as all of the options you don't have. I see that my options list shows "Less Spare Tyre" as if there is an unpublished option for a spare tire. ;)
  13. Congratulations! Maybe I'll finally see another C-Max on the road here in Missouri. :happy feet:
  14. It is not supposed to do that. Ford issued a service message acknowledging the problem. They said it sometimes happens when the transmission is put into reverse too soon after turning on the ignition. There is supposed to be software update coming to fix the issue.
  15. Press the settings icon (gear on the bottom of the screen), then Vehicle, then Rear View Camera. The manual says the transmission must not be in reverse when accessing the settings.
  16. My SEL has a build date of 3/16/13. No problems other than minor SYNC issues. Have 3.5.1 with A4 maps.
  17. IMO, a large part of the quality problems and delays with the SYNC software is that it is mostly developed off shore at Ford Technology Services in Chennai, India. While I respect and admire the Indian culture, I can only imagine their difficulty in creating quality, user-friendly software for a product (hybrid, plug-n vehicles) that they are only vaguely familiar with. Any system that is based on voice-recognition and is supposed to work with a multitude of cell-phones, media players, and storage devices has to have extremely complex software. Nobody seems to know why 3.51 has not been released for the C-Max's built before March 2013, (all other models have had the update including Fusion hybrids). They might be holding off until most of the Fusion hybrids have been updated to avoid overwhelming the dealers service departments. Version 3.51 has to be installed by the dealer on hybrids since the PCM module needs to be updated by a service technician. FYI, I have SYNC version 3.51 and it is far from perfect. It very seldom remembers the settings from the previous power-on (HVAC settings, entertainment settings, etc.) There is also the possiblity that Ford is waiting to roll out a newer version than 3.51 to fix the remaining issues. :waiting:
  18. It might not be fact, but this article says production of MY 2014 C-Max Energi starts July 8, 2013. Edit. The article retracted its date for start of model year 2014 production.
  19. I think it depends on what is up ahead. If I am entering a highway or starting up a hill and I know the ICE will have to start anyway, I accelerate a little faster to start the ICE sooner. If I am on a side street and know I can stay in EV mode for the road ahead, I accelerate slowly from a stop to stay in EV mode longer (of course if there is no traffic behind me). There could be a lot of other factors such as the timing of traffic lights, making turns, etc. on how fast or slow I accelerate.
  20. From the shop manual: The DC- AC inverter converts low-voltage (12 volts) DC to 110 volts AC to power a device that uses AC with a rating of less than 150 watts. I would say that there would be a smaller load on the 12 volt system to use the 12 VDC power outlet to charge the phone. There would be some efficiency loss in the conversion of 12VDC to 110VAC.
  21. Speaking of Oil Life monitor system, it would be nice to be able to reset the oil life monitor through the display rather than having to turn the key on, press both accelerator and brake pedal for three seconds, and wait for the reset.
  22. The Consumer Protection website would be more appropriate for the battery problem: http://www.usa.gov/topics/consumer.shtml The vehicle forward/reverse issue a few have reported would be a valid safety issue, I would think.
  23. I understand your anger and frustration. Your dealer needs to look up this Technical Service Bulletin (published 5/2/2013) if they have not done so already: TSB 13-5-1 Some 2013 C-Max, Fusion Hybrid, Fusion Energi and MKZ Hybrid vehicles may exhibit a 12 volt battery which is unable to maintain a charge or becomes discharged when the vehicle is operated with maximum electrical loads for short drive cycles and then left unattended for several hours. See this link.
