  1. The dead battery issue several people have had is the 12 volt battery being discharged. The gauge on the dash shows the high voltage battery level which is disconnected when the igntion is not on. However, a lot of people have noticed that the HV battery level is different between the time the car was shut down and when it is started. But many have said that the HV battery level is higher than when it is shut down. So, maybe the HV battery has to be warmed up before it can accurately measure its state of charge.
  2. The GPSM might only need the updated calibration. See this TSB.
  3. The cooler average temperature will also lower fuel efficiency in Canada.
  4. F85 in BCM fuse box behind the glove compartment.
  5. Beware that if you are still on MFT 3.13, the dealer will need to update the PCM module to the latest calibration before MFT can be updated to version 3.51 or 3.62. See this link.
  6. For those that went in for the 13B07 fuel efficiency update and it did not update successfully, Ford has issued new instructions to the dealers for the installation: Aug 14 2013 6477 -Field Service Action 13B07 - Special Instruction Certain 2013 Model Year C-MAX, Fusion, and MKZ Hybrid Vehicles - Fuel Economy Improvement - Powertrain Control Module Calibration. When updating the PCM and SOBDM-C modules as part of FSA 13B07, use IDS R85.05 or R86.01A with the VCM I or the VCM II. Do not use IDS R86.00 or R86.01.
  7. It looks like the most likely cause of failures is having the wrong version of IDS (Integrated Diagnostic Software) installed on their laptop computer or the wrong vehicle communication module (VCM). I had to take mine in the second time because the first attempt was not successful. I printed and showed them following message issued 8/5/13 on OASIS the second time I took it in: SSM 44124 - Customer Satisfaction Program 13B07 Fuel Economy Improvement - Powertrain Control Module Calibration Certain 2013 Model Year C-MAX, Fusion, and MKZ Hybrid Vehicles - Fuel Economy Improvement - Powertrain Control Module Calibration When updating the PCM and SOBDM-C modules as part of FSA 13B07, use IDS R85.05 and either the VCM I or the VCM II. If the IDS software has been updated to R86.00, the user must update to R86.01 and use the VCM I. Do not use the VCM II and IDS R86.01 to perform FSA 13B07.
  8. Got this website: http://www.etis.ford.com/ Enter your VIN on the vehicle tab and it will display any outstanding Field Service Actions (aka recalls). One of the FSA's will be to update the MFT to 3.62 which requires a new calibration of the PCM module. When they update the PCM you should get the latest fuel efficiency updates.
  9. Welcome to the forum. Colorado Springs is one of my favorite places to visit. The update would probably help you more this winter because of the cold weather improvements. So far, I've seen improvements in MPG The update will affect some cars more than others depending on driving habits, weather, and types of roads.
  10. The update is correct if it will run in EV mode above 62 mph. I had to take the car in twice to get the update correct. The first time, there was no change in EV above 62 mph. The second time, it will go into EV well above 62 mph if the conditions are right (usually cruising down hill). As others have noticed, your EV+ locations will be lost if the update was done correctly. I've noticed an improvement in MPG. My morning commute (18 miles, 75% highway) mpg went from 45 mpg to over 50 mpg.
  11. This message was issued a couple of days ago: SSM 44124 - Customer Satisfaction Program 13B07 Fuel Economy Improvement - Powertrain Control Module Calibration Certain 2013 Model Year C-MAX, Fusion, and MKZ Hybrid Vehicles - Fuel Economy Improvement - Powertrain Control Module Calibration When updating the PCM and SOBDM-C modules as part of FSA 13B07, use IDS R85.05 and either the VCM I or the VCM II. If the IDS software has been updated to R86.00, the user must update to R86.01 and use the VCM I. Do not use the VCM II and IDS R86.01 to perform FSA 13B07. It is no wonder some of the service techs have problems with the software updates.
  12. I had several problems using the Java applet to download the 3.6 update files. The applet said it was complete but at least one of the files was corrupt and caused the installation process to generate an error and freeze. After the fourth attempt at downloading (and deleting some temporary internet files), it finally worked. TSB 13-8-2 shows an alternate way to download the update (one large self-extracting file) if you want to bypass the Java nonsense: Click on this link: V3.6/13171 A download pop-up will appear with selections to run, save, or cancel. Select "Save". A "Save-As" pop-up window will appear with a file named "Gen2v361build13171serviceNARev1.exe". Choose a folder on your computer to save the file temporarily. Select "Save". When the download complete pop-up appears select "Open folder". A file named "Gen2v361build13171serviceNARev1.exe" will be highlighted. Double click on the file. A download warning may appear, if so, agree to continue by choosing "yes", "Ok", or "run". An extract pop-up window will appear. The extract destination to the USB flash drive will need to be selected. To browse for the USB flash drive, select the "button with three dots" located to the right of the pop-up. Scroll down and select "computer". Select the "USB drive/removable disk". Select "Extract". Confirm USB flash drive contents. Select the USB flash drive located under My Computer. A folder named "SyncMyRide" and two files (autoinstall.lst and DONTINDX.msa) will be present on the USB flash drive; it's now ready for the Vehicle Software Install procedure.Once it is extracted to the USB drive, install per the instructions on syncmyride.
  13. It looks like Ford is updating their servers to support the MFT 3.6 update coming out this month. Maybe 8/5/13 will be the rollout date. This message is being displayed today when trying to access Sync on the Ford tech service website: SYNC/MyFord Touch/MyLincoln Touch programming will be unavailable from Friday, August 2, 2013 at 10:30 PM Eastern Standard Time, through Monday, August 5, 2013 9 AM EST for server maintenance. During this time SYNC upgrades, updates and Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) replacement programming will be unavailable. Starting Monday, August 5, 2013 at 9 AM EST when programming returns, IDS R86.01 or greater will be required to perform any SYNC/MyFord Touch/MyLincoln Touch programming.
  14. The headliner impact protection recall applies to C-Maxes with a build date before 6/27/13 (unless it has the panoramic roof) The fuel efficiency (PCM) update applies to those with a build date before 7/9/13. The discharged 12 volt battery issue has been addressed with several technical service bulletins, but remains to be seen if the problem is completely solved. You can find the build date on the window sticker. I would expect there to be more software updates in the future due to the complexity of the C-Max. I've had my C-Max since late March and have not had any issues so far. Corrected dates.
  15. 1. I believe this TSB addresses a problem with the SYNC display sometimes not going into sleep mode after the ignition is turned off (causing a battery discharge) 2. I am not sure why the side marker lamps stay on unless it is to let you know that the headlamp switch is still in the "on" position. The manual is not very clear on how the exterior lighting works.
  16. It applies to all non-MFT C-Max's built before 6/21/13. To be sure, check with the dealer if you have had a discharged 12-volt battery. Since it is just a TSB and not a recall, the dealer can only do it if you have actually had 12 volt battery problems. I don't believe TSB's show up on ETIS. This TSB popped up on OASIS.
  17. There may be a lot of stuff up there, but my tech said it would be a 1.5hr job... That's what I find a little worrisome. Make sure you check everything related to wiring in the headliner after the procedure. Antenna cable Rain Sensor Rear washer Dimming mirror Overhead console Lighting Sunshade garage door opener
  18. Parts should be available before then according to this part of the dealer bulletin: "To ensure an equitable distribution of service parts, there will be a one-time seed stock of part number DM5Z-58519C88-B to dealers beginning July 25, 2013. Each dealer will receive parts equal to approximately 80% of dealer stock vehicles assigned to them on their FSA VIN list." The dealers are probably going to do the stock vehicles first. I am not in a big hurry for this recall so the service techs can have plenty of practice doing the procedure. There are a lot of trim pieces to be removed and wires to be disconnected to drop the headliner so they can install the new parts.
  19. This only applies to vehicles without MyFord Touch (MFT). FORD: 2013 C-MAX This article supersedes TSB 13-04-13 to update the Part List/Service procedure and vehicle build date. ISSUE:Some 2013 C-MAX vehicles equipped with a 4.2 inch display radio only and built on or before 6/21/2013, may exhibit a 12-volt battery that is unable to maintain a charge or becomes discharged. ACTION:Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition. SERVICE PROCEDUREReboot the scan tool. Install a battery charger. Reprogram the front control/display interface module (FCDIM) to the latest calibration using IDS release 85.05 or 86.01 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2012.9 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com. Be aware that electrical accessories may operate during programming and should be considered a characteristic. Reset FCDIM display time and date, refer to the Owners Manual, Audio System section.
  20. I am guessing that the Ford corporate lawyers and executives strictly forbid any unauthorized public contact by their employees due to legal risks.
  21. The following gets you into diagnostic mode on the touch screen which gives access to software versions, Sirius serial number, screen calibration, etc.: Operate the audio system in radio tuner AM/ FM mode. Press and hold the eject button, and within 1 second, press and hold the seek up button until the speaker walk around test begins. You can get to the other functions by canceling the speaker test or wait until it finishes.
  22. The dealer bulletin for the headliner recall was issued today: July 26, 2013 TO: All U.S. Ford and Lincoln Dealers SUBJECT: DEMONSTRATION / DELIVERY HOLD - Compliance Recall 13C02 Certain 2013 Model Year C-MAX Vehicles Built without a Panoramic Roof Headliner Head Impact Protection AFFECTED VEHICLES Certain 2013 model year C-MAX vehicles without a Panoramic Roof built at the Michigan Assembly Plant from Job #1 through June 26, 2013. REASON FOR THIS COMPLIANCE RECALL The affected vehicles may not conform to the requirements specified by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 201, Occupant Protection in Interior Impact. Affected vehicles were built with insufficient interior head impact protection at the roof/B-Pillar area. SERVICE ACTION Before demonstrating or delivering any of the vehicles involved in this recall, dealers are to lower the headliner and attach RH and LH plastic energy absorbers and foam isolators to the top side of the headliner in the areas directly below the roof bow brace. This service must be performed on all affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner. OWNER NOTIFICATION MAILING SCHEDULE Owner Letters are expected to be mailed in early August, 2013. Dealers should repair any affected vehicles that arrive at their dealerships, whether or not the customer has received a letter.
  23. You have to remove the headlight assembly to get to the bulb. Here's a picture:
