  1. Thanks! I could see where if you didn't do #1 exactly right #2 would be a huge problem!
  2. I've probably viewed this thread about 200 times myself over the past three months. I suspect most of the people posting a description of their dead battery event also entered the poll, but some many not have. Why don't you do a detailed count and report back to the group so we can have some "facts, not opinon"? 13,309 C-Max's were sold in 2012, and 13,285 have been sold in 2013 thru April, for a total of 26,584.
  3. I've pointed out my hitch to the service people at Ford and they've had no comment. And then there's this..... http://www.tundraheadquarters.com/blog/after-market-accessories-new-warranty/
  4. Have you viewed and participated in the poll on those who have had dead batteries? http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/1294-for-those-who-have-had-12v-battery-problems/?mode=show Unfortunately it didn't include an entry for those who have not had problems, so it's unclear what the ratio actually is. It would also be useful if you were to describe in detail the two failures you had with the Energi, and what the dealer did to resolve them. As you can see from the poll, only three Energi users have reported a battery problem. This is a forum BTW, not a blog.
  5. Hurrrayyyyy!!!! Thank you site owners and managers and users!
  6. I'm a big Mobil 1 fan as I worked at the lab where it was invented. My dealer provides free maintenance for life as part of their "Desert Protection" rip-off package included in the purchase price, but don't intend to take it in until the Information Display tells me to, and I'm hoping for 10,000 miles. Does anyone know if the original oil is dino or syn? It would be good to know should I have to add some before the first oil change.
  7. No, I thought I would start with these and move on from there. BTW, I threw the LED order in with one for a portable radio and the whole order arrived at my door two days after ordering, using the free shipping option. Amazon rocks!
  8. I did the puddle light mod today and like it! Nicely brighter, whiter and cooler, as is less hot. Here's a comparison from the rear of the driver's side with the mod and the un-modded passenger side, and the before and after driver's side. Thanks for the idea!
  9. I complained about it as it was covering part of the text of posts and had a nice exchange with a moderator. I suggested at a minimum making it a bit smaller and it now doesn't seem to cover the text anymore, but I think the whole thing is an annoying unnecessary intrusion. I support the Facebook marketing effort but think it could be less obnocious.
  10. Measured mine this morning, after driving around yesterday and seeing a 13.8v-14.5v charging voltage. The voltage today went from 12.2, to 11.9, to 12.1, and finally, after about three minutes, settled at 12.5v. A fully charged battery should have a reading of 12.6v, so this is very close. I had the DCDC charging software update TSB 13-5-1 done a week ago and it appears to have improved my battery status, so at this point I think I can rely on the battery to start the car pending further developments (stuck relays, water in connections, worn wires, on and on).
  11. Not much, AZ specializes in dust storms, but we do get out of the state occassionally!
  12. Yeah, I always have one more thing from Amazon that I should have included in an order! Did throw in those puddle LED lights today to a portable radio order though. I went out today. On the first segment of the trip the voltage was reading at 14.5v which is an excellent charging volt. Went 5 miles. Two hours later went another 5 miles but this time the voltage was reading 13.8v. So either the batt got a good charge on the first trip segment, or something else is happening. Will measure resting voltage again after the Energi re-charge is done.
  13. I discovered the passenger floor compartment makes the perfect place for the "C-Max Early Adopter Must-Have Accessory"! Yes, a jumper cable.
  14. I use a digital plug in meter, similar to but not as nice as this one: http://www.amazon.com/Equus-3721-Battery-Charging-Monitor/dp/B000EVWDU0/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=1VYZFBVSO1X0Y&coliid=I27DCAGZYVA68Z I only check the voltage for this purpose (not charging) when the car is off with the front 12v outlet temporarily activated, so no fans running.
  15. I just hope the 3.5.1 update for the C-Max is a DIY one, as yet another trip to the dealer for hours of waiting will be very annoying. The above blog on updating the Edge was interesting. I finally know what MFT stands for!
  16. We made one trip yesterday, about 15 minutes going each way, so not much time to charge the battery. I just checked and its at 12.2v which is not great, but better than the 11.9 I saw before the fix. I wonder if I left the car "running" for an hour what the result would be, as I assume the charge rate at "idle" would be that same as that at driving speeds. I might try that today.
  17. I just did a test. I started the car and rolled down the driver's window, then shut it off and got out. Then I did the remote start (lock, start, start) and placed the fob about 30 feet away. The car was, of course, locked. So I reached in and opened the door with the handle and the car honk alarm went off (very loud in a garage, btw) until I could get to the fob and shut it off. Did not test to see if I could drive the car with the alarm going off. Maybe next time. And I see I just got an email from My Ford Mobile that my alarm had gone off.
  18. That would be Elvis, the Sun Concure, who has hung around with us for 25 years. Generally seems to like traveling until late in the day it gets cranky from not having his normal daily naps.
  19. I'm looking forward to using this "feature" when we travel this summer with our parrot, although I suspect I will use the "remote start - run for 15-30 minutes" method to keep the beast cool, rather than just leaving it running. It's my understanding the car cannot be driven if someone were to get/break in while it's running, without having the key fob.
  20. When the location indicator trails your car by 100-200' traveling at 45-50 on a straight road for miles, then when you make a turn it turns into whatever area is next to it at the time, but stays closer to the real position when doing 25 and shows the same turn correctly, it's clearly not a mapping error. Replacing the GPSM fixed this problem for now many people with the old map software still in place. If anyone has the same problem and uses the GPS, I recommend going through the hassle to get the hardware replaced.
  21. Now that my GPS is working properly thanks to the module replacement, I thought I would look into the feature that allows locations found via MapQuest to be sent to the Navigation system via the SYNC feature. Since I went through a little learning curve in doing this, I thought I would pass on my findings so others will have it easier. If anyone has anything to add or correct to this please do. First I did a search, and found all the gripping about Ford dropping Google Maps (yeah! why use the best?), but eventually found Fords instructions for this process. http://support.ford.com/sync-technology/send-to-sync Of course they had to be cute about it and put into six steps and six clicks to read them one by one (okay, there is a button at the bottom to see them all at once.). I'll combine them and add my edits to make them actually understandable to the novice: 1. Use the MapQuest® website to locate a business or address you wish to send to the Navigation system. http://www.mapquest.com/ 2. Select Send. Send is in the upper right corner of the MapQuest webpage. 3. Select the Car option. Then select "SNYC" and enter the active mobile phone number for your SYNC Owner account and add a name for your designation if you wish. Select Send. Only one Destination can be sent and Sync'd at a time. 4. After receiving notification in your browser that the location was successfully sent, take your cell phone, with it on, to your car and either start it or enter Accessory mode. When SYNC is on and sync'd to your phone, pull the Voice icon paddle on your steering wheel and say "Services". 5. SYNC will say "Connecting", then "Services. MapQuest has sent you the map point in (town then name assigned)", and ask if you'd like directions to destination. Say “Yes”. SYNC will say "Great. Sending." (Saying No will result in the destination not being loaded into the Navigation system.) 6. Do not end the call until it announces the route download is complete and "You may now use your phone". It will automatically disconnect the call. 7. The destination is saved in the Destinations menu item, or to Favorites if you touched the "Save To Favorites" screen menu item.
  22. I had the DCDC software upgrade yesterday as well. I have not had a dead battery, but do see very low voltages on what should be a fully charged battery (11.9v-12.4v) so I'm hoping this change will improve the charge level.
  23. "GPSM and PMI Module" were replaced today and the GPS is showing EXACTLY where my car is for the first time. They had it all day, but gave us a rental to use, and they also performed the TSB 13-5-1 DCDC Converter software update. Part number: CJ5Z-10E893-C; Description: Aerial Asy - G Upon arriving home and plugging it in, the ring did not light up. I unplugged and plugged back in - still no light. I unplugged, opened the door and closed it, plugged it back in and the light and fan came on. Don't know if this is a result of the software update as that would be annoying. (Update: This is apparently not unknown in an Energi with a depleted battery like ours was. Typical solution is to start and shutoff the car. Mine was to open and shut the drivers door.) Overall, glad the GPS is finally working as it should, now only the 3.5.1 left to do when it arrives - pending other issues.
  24. Just got a call that my GPSM is in, so I'm going in tomorrow to have that installed and the TSB done. Yippee!
