  1. Until electrics are to the point where they can be topped off in the time that it takes to fill a gas tank, I can't consider one. I am not about to own two cars, pay for a second parking spot, pay for the increase in insurance, etc. I hope that the day comes soon. There is a company in Israel that has quick change batteries and a supporting network, but that would require widespread adaptation in the USA before I could consider that option. Hydrogen sounds promising in its own way. When they make something where I can drive cross country, stopping for minutes to top off along the way, count me in.
  2. Sometimes, the transmission selects a lower gear equivalent or higher when you depress the pedal. If I work it gently, it will keep to a lower, quiet RPM. With just a slight increase in pressure, I really hear ICE revving much higher. Could this possibly be what is going on?
  3. When I first got my C-MAX, I wrote a similar thread. I added specifics, and part of the story was that I was either in a rush or some equivalent that caused me to go through the start up procedure quickly, and I got responses saying that I probably didn't depress the pedal, or depress it far enough (foot just barely resting without any pressure. It happens, especially when starting up with a new process after so many years of just having to turn a key. I've never had a repeat of the issue, so I am going to say that the gang probably spotted the issue on this one. Obviously, if it keeps happening, then there is something going on. However, don't worry about it until then. It could just be the same kind of thing as happened to me and at least a few others.
  4. You aren't the first to mention the low washer fluid light absence.
  5. You can also look at getting highly efficient coolers. I spent several days at a time on the road while traveling in my C-MAX during this past summer, using just ordinary (Coleman) coolers with re-freezable ice packs inside. Even when I got to my destinations, I kept my food in the coolers, and I just rotated the freezer packs to re-freeze a set while the other stayed in the coolers. This was over the course of a month and a half, and it worked very well. Instead of freezer packs that require this re-freezing, you can also instead just stop at convenience stores and supermarkets to pick up ice along the road. Again, I used ordinary coolers instead of the more expensive coolers that are said to keep food cold for much longer than my inexpensive version, but between the better coolers and stopping for ice (if you can't use the re-freezable packs), you can go for months on end like this without any problems. The only issue with using ice is that you will need to take measures to keep the ice from slowly melting and getting your food wet, but that is easily done.
  6. I just travel at moderate highway speeds, and I get a nice balance of MPG and fuel economy. Last summer, at 68 MPH, I averaged 45.6 MPG with a fully loaded vehicle, air conditioning running almost the entire trip, over the course of 5,400+ miles while driving from Miami to just across the border from Maine and back to Miami, even with several out and back trips to the steepest New England mountains.
  7. With air conditioning running and set to 73F, I typically get speed/MPG of 55/47-49, 60/47, 65/45+, 70/43-45, 75/40, 80/38. This was over the course of over 5,500 miles of full to empty tanks, straight through without stopping, other than for fill-ups, meals and bathroom breaks, and overnight hotel stops, all done during summer conditions of outside temperatures ranging from 80 to 95F, mostly in the upper end of that range.
  8. Empower, just because it combines the ICE/EV thresholds nicely. I did set up My View to show RPM and electric draw, and I sometimes scroll to that. However, after using that for several times, I no longer really need to scroll to it very often.
  9. I have one. I have the very first that they manufactured for the C-MAX. Since I had another one in a previous vehicle, and since it performed so well, I contacted them as soon as I got my C-MAX (May 2013 or soon thereafter--I can't remember exactly when) to order one for the C-MAX. (I paid full price for mine, and I have no affiliation.) They used my vehicle for the model, and it is my vehicle used on their web site for their photos. (The only difference between mine and what they sell now is that, since mine was the first, the logo came out in a slightly different location than what you will get now.) I ordered mine with Velcro covered panels that allow me to use the d-rings in the C-MAX for tying down cargo. I also ordered it to work so that I can fold down one or both of the rear seats. You can discuss some alternatives with them, or just tell them that you want yours the same way as mine, and they will do the job for you. I have used this cover for everything from wet scuba gear to a car full of hiking and traveling gear (the latter used in over 7,000 miles of travel). My CanvasBack still looks the way it did on the day that I first installed it. I did have some spills (even some cooking oil from appliances that traveled with me), but they cleaned up to again look like the day I first did my installation. To clean, I just used some carpet cleaner with a scrub brush, and then I used a handheld carpet spot cleaner (Bissel) to extract the liquid (and the oil). I have been completely satisfied, and I would not hesitate to buy one again. Here is the thread that shows pics (scroll to my post) of the CanvasBack in my C-MAX. Also, check my photo gallery, and you will see how it looks with various items loaded. BTW, the CanvasBack is an excellent choice for being able to slide items in and out of the vehicle. It sounds like a good match for you.
  10. I am almost positive that Ford had either a print, web or other ad that showed a king size mattress in back of a C-MAX, back when it came out. I tried a quick Google search, but it didn't come up.
  11. I don't really see any change when I run the headlamps.
  12. Mine will only make the pump noise if I open the door after my CMAX has been sitting long enough after shutting down.
  13. Welcome aboard. You'll become better at getting higher MPGs as you learn the tips. No question about it, cold weather will knock your numbers down, as will using the heater and air conditioner. Just about to finish another 60 MPG tank.
  14. I have not had a single incident since getting the update. Let us know what happens. Did you get the software update for this?
  15. http://www.cbioffroadfab.com/products/1st-gen-toyota-tacoma-products/fold-down-tire-carrier-premium-model. It's listed for Toyota, but they will make it for any vehicle, per their site. There was another one that I saw, but I can't remember where that was. I was looking into the idea, but it would only be for when I travel. When I am home, I have no place to store it, since I live in a high rise condo without a garage storage space.
  16. In case this helps, I was looking into changing over to HID. I can remember if it was DrDiesel or somebody else that said this, but he or she said that the Focus HID kit will work.
  17. I never ran it until fully empty, but I did make a test run to see if I could get close. I am only at about 16,500+ miles, so it is too soon to tell. The way that I look at it: That's what the warranty is for.
  18. Are you talking about the door unlocking when you touch the handle? I have one door where it will not always open at the first touch. Since it is one of the rear doors, I haven't gotten around to getting it fixed yet. I know: lazy.
  19. I am actually running a tank without it right now, and it seems not to reduce my fuel economy at all. Actually, I think that, for experienced drivers, EV+ can actually reduce fuel economy. For example, I live in a high rise condo. I have to drive through a parking garage. If I would use EV+ as I approached my building, there is a chance that I wouldn't have enough juice to reach my parking spot without ICE firing up. On my next trip, I would have to start ICE while still barely moving through the parking garage, crossing our big driveway, and stopping at the driveway's intersection with the street. If cars are coming, I am sitting at that stop with ICE running. On the other hand, if I intentionally do a charge up burn and glide as I approach the condo (either by overriding EV+ or by turning it off), I arrive at my building with a nearly full battery. I am moving so slowly that I hardly use any juice while crossing the driveway, entering the parking garage, and getting to my parking spot. I can then use the full battery for the trip out to the street, and if no cars are coming, I can get up to speed and drive about a quarter mile or more before my first ICE burn. Leaving EV+ turned off allows me to maintain greater control. The only downside is that I can't use quite as much juice at the low end of the SOC. However, the number of times that I would need to do this are so few that I am thinking that I will keep EV+ turned off. BTW, I have used 3/4 of this tank, partly with air conditioning (maybe 15 percent), and I am at 60 MPG, so far. (Remember that, as it gets colder up north, that's when my numbers start to go up.)
  20. Best wishes for your dad. I am guessing that more than a few of us are familiar with this ugly disease.
  21. I changed to 0W20 at just before 10,000 miles. I am at about 16,500. I can't say that I see any real difference.
