40 MPG is what I get at 75 MPH, with A/C turned on.

My Hybrid (2013) does not show this.

As to the first point, that is correct. I only use that technique (2 bar burn) when I already have a high SOC. If I have a low SOC, I get rolling in EV, then I tap to engage ICE but at a low RPM, usually well below 2K RPM (I never checked, but it corresponds with about .5 bar), charging up while driving from between 20 MPH to about 35 or so. The long, slow burn is usually for more than a minute, whereas the 2 bar burn is for usually only about 5 to maybe 9 seconds, depending on upper speed. Glad to hear that you have learned to chase the bar! ;)

Most of us are pretty happy with the car. There are some noted issues, just like with many other cars on the market. My worst complaint is that I HATE the dead pedal/foot rest for the driver, which really starts to get to me on long drives. On the other hand, I have taken my C-MAX on trips that were as long as 5,400+ miles, and it's been pretty solid, handles well, and holds a lot inside.

This sounds like what I do. Also, things depend on your intended speed and your current SOC. If my HVB is low while my intended speed is city speeds, 30-45 MPH, I tap to engage ICE, bring the pressure down to just enough to keep ICE engaged, and I do a slow burn that keeps me going at the same speed (or slowly speeding up) while charging. Once I get to a good SOC, I do another "soft" tap, engaging HVB and turning off ICE, and I either keep going at the same speed, or I am slowly slowing down somewhat, and I glide until back down to a low SOC. I make changes to technique based upon the road conditions, such as areas with known hills, places where I have to stop for signals, etc. If I have a low SOC and I need to speed up from a dead stop, such as from a red light, I start rolling with EV up to about 15-18 MPH, then I do a brief (as brief as I can get away with, given traffic flow--usually for about 5 to 7 seconds, something like that) two bar burn with ICE. This keeps me moving with the traffic flow, or even better than that. I back off of the throttle pressure but keep ICE engaged, and I try to maintain about 1.125 bar pressure to continue to speed up. After checking with My View many times, this works out to the 2,000 RPM figure. If I have a high SOC, I start rolling in EV up to about 15-18 MPH, then I do a two bar burn to get up to intended speed ASAP. The reason: ICE uses less gas by making a higher burn for a shorter time than it does with a lower burn for a longer time. Once at speed, I glide using EV.

I've had that same experience, and that was after going to the dealer only one time (and it will be my last--they sucked).

A/C and mileage in hot climates (Florida)

I've been using the sunglass compartment (I have the Pano Roof) from day one. Never a scratch. My only issue is that my glasses always get dirty, and it's not like I ever put something in there with dirt on it. Could just be that I am fanatical about cleaning my glasses.- 27 replies

Some Basic C-Max Hybrid Questions
ScubaDadMiami replied to SEL_Hybrid's topic in Lounge: C-MAX Hybrid
I'm also not sure, but I believe that the rear vents come on all models. I still don't understand it, but there are no light upgrades available. -
New cars have a lot of new technology. I went with the same plan that you are considering 7/125,000. I can't remember the price.

I stopped posting (but I keep up with Fuelly.com) after I broke 800, but pretty much all of my tanks are 700+, or I am on the way to that when I fill up before bothering to run down to nearly empty. My numbers are going down now, because I am running the air conditioner. We've had a lot of 85+F days this winter.
-
As everybody else's numbers go up, mine start to come down. It has been 85F+ during the day, and I have been forced to resort to turning on the air conditioner. My last tank was 60+ MPG. I will probably end up with 50 or so for this one. So it goes.

A/C and mileage in hot climates (Florida)

I live in Miami Beach, so I understand your pain. I keep my condo at about 68F, so I consider myself an air conditioner-aholic. You will be very happy with your C-MAX with the Panoramic Roof. :love_shower: I have about 18,000 miles on my C-MAX. My lifetime average is 49.4 MPG. During winter, I get 60+ MPG without the air conditioner turned on. During summer, I get about 50 MPG while using the air conditioner. I do almost all city driving, with average speeds of about 35 MPH. If you do a lot of driving above 55 MPH, you will get less than this, but not terribly less. The reason that I have a lifetime number that is on the lower end of this scale is because I also make long highway trips, such as my trip last summer to New England and back, and I also go to the mountains in North Carolina. I have the Panoramic Roof, and I love it. The shade works well. I definitely suggest getting the Roof. It really makes the interior seem even bigger than it already is. You will absolutely want to get tinting added to your windows. The Pano Roof already has it, and I hear that it is suggested not to get it added to the Roof, and that most places will not do it for you, even if you want to add it to the Roof. If you park out in the heat of the sun, one of the great things that you can do with the C-MAX is to use the key fob to open the windows by holding down the open button for a few seconds as you approach your parked car. Then, you start your drive with the open windows for a block or so, which blows the hottest air out of the interior cabin. By then, the air from the air conditioner starts to make a difference already. BTW, the air conditioner in the C-MAX is fantastic, and it cools really well and pretty quickly. If you want, you can even use your key fob to start the car and get the air conditioner to start cooling it down, but that will start to cut into your fuel economy. Some people also get a shade for the front window. I don't bother with that, because I don't want the hassle of folding it up and putting it inside with me while I am driving. One last thing: Color makes a difference. I went with Oxford White. One of the great things about going with this instead of the upgraded white color is that it doesn't have a clear coat. If you get a scratch, you can touch it up without it looking different than the surrounding paint. If you have a big enough scratch that you want to get the work done professionally, it will cost less. Speaking of color, I got the light color seats. This also helps. You will be very happy with choices like these.- 27 replies

I wrote a post on what I did, but that was a while ago. I actually can't remember, but I think that it was from Budget. You can't just show up at the agency to assure the kind of vehicle you want. Start by calling, and then explain that you need to rent the C-MAX. Let them know that you are not a tourist that needs the car on a specific date, but that you are a local that needs the specific car make and model, and that you can be flexible on the date. It can take some time for them to locate and transfer the car to your local rental agency. It costs more to rent a specific vehicle. I think I spent about $125 for 24 hours. Think of it as a wise investment in deciding which vehicle you will purchase.

That's what I did. I rented for 24 hours, gave a good test drive, and that confirmed my decision.

Window Tint - All Windows
ScubaDadMiami replied to Edgeskeez's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors & Wipers
I think that it should be okay for anyone to let us know about good (or bad) service that they have actually had from any provider. I have given good reviews to Wet Okole for my seat covers, Canvasback for my rear cargo cover, Al Packer Ford and Auto Nation Ford for great service. I have actually been there and had the service. I would have a problem with posters that have not actually had the service done, or just using our site for their advertising. If they are a sponsor, I see no reason for them not to be allowed to let us know about specials and discounts, etc., but I would not want for them to be constantly just using us to place ads as posts without those kinds of offerings. -
You will notice the larger turn when you first get your new C-MAX. It's not nearly a big enough deal to warrant crossing the C-MAX off of your list. U-turns are bigger, and you will notice this on small roads. Parking is not an issue.
-
Whether that would be at the better or not so better end of the spectrum would depend on the temps. I drove from Miami to New England and back, and I got 45.6 MPG, but that was at summer temps with air conditioning on, so more like 40 in winter sounds about right. Did you use heat or A/C?

Welcome aboard. There is a lot of good reading here that will help you learn the tips. Since you mention surfing, I have a suggestion or two for you. I just retired from a career as a scuba instructor, so I know a thing or two about wet gear in the C-MAX. I went with the factory all weather mats, and they have been fine for my needs. A lot of people here are using Weathertech, and that has a strong following, probably more than the factory all weather mats. I just like the look of the Ford mats, and they have worked well for me. As far as the rear interior goes, I absolutely suggest that you get a Canvasback cargo liner. I have had this in at least one previous vehicle, and it works great. Tough, and keeps the water (especially salt water) from ruining your car. If you ever get it really dirty, you can leave it in place and shampoo it, or you can remove it and hose it down. It is exactly what you need. BTW, that is my C-MAX in the picture on their web page. I have no affiliation, and I receive no compensation from them. It's just that I ordered the first one that they made for the C-MAX, and they used my picture for their web site. If you have questions, just ask. Everybody here is very helpful. Enjoy your new C-MAX!
