  1. It may not be Prius owners, but rather people working for marketing companies hired by other car companies that sell competing products. They could be paid to pose as real owners and post phony numbers on Fuelly, the EPA site or even on forums like this. Seems unlikely, but definitely possible.
  2. I believe the only way to reset the lifetime values is to press and hold OK (for 5+ seconds, until the meter bar fills to the right) on the Lifetime Summary screen that shows when turning off the vehicle. Supposedly this also clears the EV+ destinations and forces the vehicle to learn your frequent destinations again. I haven't done this reset myself yet, so I can't speak from personal experience.
  3. For the first couple months, my nav had a number of random missing major roads. I had thought the maps were just poor quality and was planning to complain eventually and hopefully get an update. Then I took the car in for the free oil change, and as I was driving away from the dealership afterward, the screen was flashing an alert that it couldn't read the map SD card and turn-by-turn nav wasn't available. So I tried ejecting and re-inserting the SD card and it made it happy. But after that, the maps were now complete. I had thought maybe the dealership did some kind of map data or firmware along with the oil change, but they denied it. The dealership couldn't give me a good explanation for why this happened.
  4. Ford has a site where you can post your ideas for improving their products. I have a pretty long list, some of which are covered in the ideas already submitted. http://social.ford.com/archive/your-ideas/?searchterm=c-max
  5. I just registered on Blue Oval Forums and got an email within about 10 minutes. It was in the inbox of my gmail. You can try sending feedback to the site admin to activate your account or send the email again. FYI for everyone, there is a hidden C-Max forum there that only shows when logged in, but message traffic is a bit slow.
  6. Check in your junk mail folder if you have one. Sometimes they have a way to send the confirmation email again if there was a problem sending it the first time. Usually if you don't get it in your inbox or junk folder within an hour, there was a problem.
  7. Page 406 of Owner Manual: "SYNC also supports audio formats such as MP3, WMA, WAV and ACC."
  8. I should have mentioned that I keep the heat off and use the heated seats so the engine doesn't keep running the whole trip to get warm enough to warm the cabin the last few minutes. You could try watching the engine temp on My View and wait to turn the heat on when the engine has warmed up some, or you could turn the temp on the climate control down. I have had it set to 72, but after trying the tape covered middle grill mod yesterday, I had to turn it down to 68-69.
  9. I typically get MPG in the high 20s to low 30s when it's single digits and I drive just a couple miles to work. I can usually get EV mode to turn on after a mile or so. If I have to stop and take off, it will turn the engine on for a while again before returning to EV mode just before it turns on EV+ near my office.
  10. Front plates are required in many states, but I see cars occasionally without them. Some people decide it's worth the risk of a small citation once in a long while.
  11. Some people just have some kind of anti-efficiency or anti-green mentality and don't care that their guzzler is helping make the big petroleum companies and OPEC countries richer.
  12. With Android phones (dunno about iThing), you can play music over Bluetooth and not use any cables, but the simple pause/prev/next controls with no song title on screen is annoying. I prefer USB drives because it shows the ID3 tag or filename.
  13. I love using the calculator on the EPA site. The small annual cost difference is surprising to many people. It's about the percentage of difference, not the number of miles difference. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/savemoney.shtml
  14. I don't have any SACDs even though I got a player years ago that could play them.
  15. Just so people are aware, MP3 is a lossy compression, so there will be some sound quality loss compared to CD. I've done some listening tests in the past, and there was obvious distortion below 192 bitrate. So if you want to use MP3, pick a higher bitrate, as high as you have space to hold. The LAME encoder (http://lame.sourceforge.net/links.php) was also the best sounding. I haven't tried lossless FLAC files to see if it will play them.
  16. I'm in Iowa. I think the official NWS temp was 12°F when I got back. I didn't look at the temp when I left.
  17. I can fit a road bike laying down with the front wheel turned sideways. I had to take the front wheel off to fit a 29er mountain bike. One of the main reasons I wanted a vehicle with a large hatch was so I could fit bikes inside instead of using a trunk rack that is a hassle and lowers my gas mileage significantly on the highway.
  18. I recently discovered there is an Enhanced mode for the Trip 1 and Trip 2 screens. If you use the right arrow while on each screen, you can switch to Enhanced, which shows more details. You have to go into both 1 and 2 separately and switch them both.
  19. I tried the Tape Over Center Grill Opening (TOCGO) mod today in single digit to low teen temps with a mix of city and highway driving. I watched the engine temp in My View to make sure it didn't get too high. I stayed in the middle of the range like it usually does. Average for the nearly two hour trip was 42.9 MPG. I didn't do a back-to-back test to compare averages. The engine seemed to stay warmer longer while running in EV mode for extended time in low speed city driving. The heat in the car seemed much hotter than normal after initial warmup. I had to turn the heat down several degrees for the cabin to remain comfortable. I will continue testing this mod and see if I can confirm the observation of the warmer engine temp and increased heat, and to see if my average MPG increases.
  20. The average is going to depend a lot on how long your average trip is and whether the engine is warmed up when you drive. Short trips where the engine never fully warms up and many trips starting with the engine stone cold will hurt a lot.
  21. When I did the free oil change at the dealer, I checked the oil level the next morning before driving and it was below the max line by about a third of a quart. When I asked the dealer why it wasn't completely filled, they claimed that Ford recommends filling the oil to the mid point of the range on the dipstick. Not sure I believe them since it came from the factory filled to the max line, so I plan to always keep it there.
  22. I saw that http://cmaxhybridowners.com/ was converted from a generic C-Max forum to a hybrid-specific site and I'm wondering how that is not redundant and just a copy of this site. Both sites show the same owner in WHOIS lookup.
  23. "MPGomatic.com puts a 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid to a grueling 900+ mile test drive. [ Full Review: http://www.mpgomatic.com/ ]"
  24. Ford calls it a "MAV (multi-activity vehicle)" here. http://www.ford.com/cars/cmax/features/ The brochure I have also calls it "multi-activity vehicle." Ford's internal name for it is a truck called Escape C-Max. The EPA classifies it as a Large Car.
  25. I just tried switching from mobile today and it finally worked. Edit: The stall on saving post is also gone.
