  1. Here's a chart from Wayne on the same forum in another thread that compares the C-Max and Prii mileage at multiple highway speeds. My guess for the C-Max would have been from high 40s dropping down to low 40s. http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showpost.php?p=368315&postcount=273
  2. There is a side crash video I didn't see before. http://www.firstpost.com/topic/person/pimp-c-ford-c-max-hybrid-2013-side-crash-test-nhtsa-crash-video-AxpS0P_YB18-21942-3.html
  3. Someone on the other forum claims there's a software update to fix this. The broken English in the post doesn't give much confidence, but maybe someone wants to ask for clarification or confirmation. http://cmaxhybridowners.com/topic/418-2013-c-max-hybrid-needed-a-jump-start-today/?p=1410
  4. http://www.davisenterprise.com/business/auto/ford-takes-aim-at-prius/ (36 MPG)

  7. This looks more like a fish story all the time. We're up to 5 MPG now? Next week it will be 6, and maybe 7 or 8 in a couple weeks. Where will it end? ;)
  8. I was leaning toward a Focus at first, rated at 27 city/38 highway, which was higher than the 25/35 minimum that I was looking for. It's likely that I would have still picked the C-Max if it was slightly below the Focus ratings. But my C-Max is averaging 42.5 over the last three months, and I regularly have trip averages over 40, with some in the 50-60+ range, so I'm quite happy with the mileage so far. I expect it to go up quite a bit in the spring and summer. I expect to exceed the EPA numbers in the city, and still be in the low 40 range on the highway.
  9. The card was inserted in the slot inside the center console (arm rest) when I got the car. I did see that message on my nav screen once, and I just ejected and re-inserted and it stopped complaining.
  10. http://hormonecoloreddays.blogspot.com/2013/01/have-you-driven-ford-c-max-hybrid-lately.html (33 MPG) And a somewhat negative Energi head to head against the Volt (32.6 MPG) http://www.thestreet.com/story/11812757/1/endurance-test-ford-c-max-takes-on-chevy-volt.html?cm_ven=RSSFeed
  11. EPA rejects Ford mileage request http://www.behindthewheel.com.au/2013/01/15/epa-rejects-ford-mileage-request/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=epa-rejects-ford-mileage-request "Two Ford models, the C-Max and Fusion hybrids fared the worst in testing and Ford has subsequently called on the EPA to rethink the way they test hybrids." "But Chris Grundler, who heads the EPA’s Office of Transportation and Air Quality, says they won’t be changing their methods."
  12. Since the A/C is electric and the electric motor only assists the gas engine occasionally at highway speed, I expect the impact to high speed gas mileage to be minimal. We'll have to wait and see how much battery power the A/C draws and how much EV mode is reduced. Since the defroster turns on the A/C to dehumidify the air, we could test the impact to some extent now.
  13. New Canadian review with the usual low fuel economy in cold weather (35 MPG driving carefully, 29 MPG driving normally). http://wildsau.ca/2013/01/review-2013-ford-c-max-hybrid/
  14. Could have been Cosmoline. There was an episode of Car Talk years ago where they joked about it.
  15. The way I always unlock is to put my hand straight down with my fingers straight. It unlocks almost every time that way. I was using a thumb to lock the doors, but I discovered I can press a lightly clenched fist against the sensor and it will lock almost every time.
  16. A range of 31-33 MPG at 70 MPH seems very low. The trips that I've done with cruise set at 68 MPH on the highway have averaged between 37 and 43, depending on temperature and wind. Temps were typically in the 20s or 30s.
  17. Not sure if this helps, but these are the relevant sections from the Owners Guide. Page 91: AUTOLAMPS (IF EQUIPPED) Note: It may be necessary to switch your headlamps on manually in severe weather conditions. The headlamps will switch on and off automatically in low light situations or during inclement weather. The headlamps will remain on for a period of time after you switch the ignition off. You can adjust the time delay using the information display controls. Note: If you switch autolamps on in conjunction with autowipers, low beam headlamps will illuminate automatically when the rain sensor activates the windshield wipers continuously. Page 96: Global Opening Note: The ignition must be off and the accessory delay feature must not be activated to operate this feature. Note: To disable this feature, contact your authorized dealer. Press and hold the unlock button on the remote control to begin opening the windows. Release the button once motion starts. The windows will continue opening. Press the lock or unlock button on the remote control to stop motion.
  18. The testing method is close to what I was thinking of trying, except for including steps 3 and 4 in the measurement. I wanted to completely eliminate driver influence by recording the mileage before turning the cruise off at the exit. So you'd measure the return half separately by resetting Trip 1 or 2 as soon as you're up to speed and the cruise is engaged again. Then combine or average the two trips.
  19. This is something I had done to my previous car after seeing someone post about it on a forum. The doors aren't sealed from road noise as well as they could, so someone put some weatherstrip on the inside edge of the doors. I did it on my previous car and also on my C-Max (because I still had enough left over sitting in a box), but I didn't compare before and after to see if it made a noticeable difference. I put it on the full height of the door on the latch side on my old car, but only on the lower half below the glass on the C-Max. If anyone wants to try it (maybe you may have some spare weatherstrip laying around and gathering dust too) and report if you can tell the difference, that would be great.
  20. It can be accessed in the rear storage compartment. Left the hinged door up and lift the door off the floor on the right side. The door has a rubber mat on top and has a tab on the left and a hole on the right.
  21. I thought all vehicles brought in a small amount of fresh air from outside, even when the climate control is off or in the recycle mode. Otherwise, if the cabin is nearly air tight, you'd pass out and maybe die when the CO2 level got too high.
  22. I had been driving for a while and the coolant should have been warmed up, but it's possible that driving in EV mode for a while cooled it off.
  23. Someone has probably posted a link to this before, but here's a new thread so it's more visible to new people. This is an ongoing discussion of some C-Max hypermilers. http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46128
  24. Last night I was reminded of this problem I've seen a few times before. If the climate control is off and I turn it on, sometimes the fan won't start blowing. I powered it off and on, adjusted the temp and pressed Auto and it still wouldn't spin the fan up. I had to turn the max defrost on and off again to get the fan working. There sure are a lot of gremlins in this car. That will teach me to buy a vehicle in the first model year.
  25. It's only visible when it's dark and the headlights are on. Even at full brightness, it didn't seem that bright in the footwells. Think I discovered that when I was trying to see it work shortly after I got my car.
