Name one like and dislike with your C-Max?
fotomoto replied to armoredsaint's topic in General Discussion
Like: Too many to pick from Dislike: >70mph mileage -
I did some digging to find out why or how there could be a driver with a 29mpg rating. I found it's an owner with a gas car in the Netherlands. <face palm>

I missed 39.7 but it's up to 39.8 today.

I've added a wheelskin to two previous cars including my wife's current one and I think they are truly worth the money but I feel no need to add one the CMax. It's awh-ight.

Kids soccer games, hanging at the beach, etc. Open liftgates with a cover thrown over the top are instant shade at outdoor events here in the south. Yeah, I can't believe the interior lights didn't time out. Wait until you walk off and leave the car on (running). BTDT!

My first change was complimentary from the dealer but they did hand me a receipt for $77 in charges; oil change only, no tire rotation! $47 is GREAT for synthetic with a rotation but the OP probably got semi-syn.

Yes, one fellow here liken hills, or overpasses in his urban example, to surfing the route. Power (pulse) up over them and then Glide back down the other side on EV or regen. Obviously you'll need to be at 62mph or lower to engage EV.

That hasn't been the case for me. I use Auto about 90% of the time and the re-circ stays activated. It seem only if I or more likely the wife change something that re-circ can sometimes disappear.

I have sinned...vent bezel reflection issues
fotomoto replied to armoredsaint's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, I think your particular tint is adding to the effect. I have "regular" window tint and I can only see the chrome outline of the vent in my left window reflection (the worse of the two). Now with nearly 4 months of ownership under my belt, I rarely notice it. The mind can be very powerful at tuning things out. My wife who is over 1/2 foot shorter and sits closer to the wheel has never mentioned it and being that she is very OCD I haven't brought the subject up for fear of giving her something else to obsess over! :hysterical: The flatter the windows the more reflective they become. We had a Nissan Cube that had darn near perfectly flat windows that had severe reflective qualities. -
1,400 miles cross country, driving with the flow of traffic
fotomoto replied to Jmonty's topic in Fuel Mileage
I avg a tad more on pure interstate legs (37-38mpg) with eco-cruise but if I can drop it down to 65mph I can get into the low 40's depending on conditions. I tried an experiment on one long trip (4+hrs each way). Going there was interstate @ 75mph and return was on rural highway through several small towns. We stopped to eat each way so the time factor was a wash but I picked up 5mpg on the rural highway route (70mph max but tried to keep it 65mph and below). With a one year old? BTDT. The quickest route possible, fuel economy be damned! :) -
AZTAXI, This is great to hear. I know the Ford Escape Hybrids have done great in the taxi business so we really want to hear about your accelerated wear/tear on service items and overall reliability data.

I use to experience the same thing with my grandmothers car. I'd take it out and floor it till the smoke stopped. That smoke was a mix of black and brown (rust). Black smoke is typically excess fuel or soot deposits while blue is oil (bad rings or seals) and white is water (blown head gasket). Grayish wisps can be confused for white but that's water vapor buildup before the exhaust system heats up. I like to occasionally floor it when I pass someone at highway speeds to keep the ol' pipes clear! :)

Navigation tips anyone? (3.5.1)
fotomoto replied to GreenChicago's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
It's in the setting menu but you can just turn her down while she speaks and it won't affect your entertainment volume. -
Navigation tips anyone? (3.5.1)
fotomoto replied to GreenChicago's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
Try using map quest.com for problematic directions and have them sent to your CMax. Use the send button on the upper right portion of the map on the mapquest page, select "car", then "sync", then enter the cell phone number assigned to your sync account. Also I've had real good luck with using the live operators on the sirius travel link. They will download the directions to the NAV unit and this is MUCH quicker and safer in heavy traffic or unknown locales. Use the voice command paddle and say "services". -
I get your point but no a minimum isn't needed. In fact, short trips are one of the primary reasons for poor mileage so showing ourselves and others that the CMax/hybrids can do well under these circumstances is beneficial.

Suitability for occasional towing
fotomoto replied to mikeash's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
There's a couple of good threads on hitches. The Ford and Toyota hybrid powertrain systems are very similar but with the Prius version having less power than the CMax yet many owners have towed light loads with it. FWIW -
Auto-Dimming Mirror adjustment?
fotomoto replied to Gandor's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors & Wipers
I know of no adjustment but adding very dark tint to the liftgate glass has made this a non-issue for me. -
Do you have a way to closely monitor ICE and inverter temps? Scanguage?

"Fuel Efficient Vehicle Parking" spaces?
fotomoto replied to Recumpence's topic in General Discussion
Having owned a plug-in, the subject of other non-plugins taking up public EV charging spots is so common that the EV community has come up with a special term for it: getting ICE'd. -
Codgers! :)

As a life long motorcyclist, I'll also offer this piece of advice when following a large commercial truck: they can straddle large objects and thus not need to swerve to avoid them.
-
The CMax will emit two very loud horn honks if you leave the car powered on and shut the door completely. I guess she didn't. Also if you don't shut the doors completely, the marker and puddle lights will stay on (30secs ?) which is a visual cue I use often.

Journey to 800+ Miles on a single tank in a C-Max Hybrid
fotomoto replied to Jus-A-CMax's topic in Fuel Mileage
I don't know what speeds it takes but, yes, some prius hyper-milers get 800 mile tanks and on less gas (11.9gal). FWIW -
