  1. The hands free feature does not work without the FOB within a couple of feet of the lift gate. Also, you must be kicking near the center. The sweet spot is just below the backup sensor on the bumper.
  2. I have no problem with directing the central dash vent, the one just to the upper right of the steering, from blowing directly at my face. Are you sure it is on? There is a cut-off wheel just above it. Also, there is another vent just above the HVAC controller that is somewhat hidden. It can't be adjusted/moved and blows right at my lap. I don't care for that and have it turned off (cut-off wheel is in the center of that vent).
  3. You both go in one car to the rental agency. Alternatives: go to a dealer, show you're serious, and get an extended test drive. I got one for 48 hours. You might get an even longer time frame with a used one (plus the ICE will be more broken in). autos.yahoo shows five available around a thirty miles zone of the 90601 zipcode. http://autos.yahoo.com/used-cars/overview?distance=50&location=90601&bodystyle=&modelyearlb=&modelyearub=&make=ford&model=c_max&askpricelb=&askpriceub=&deliverymileagelb=&deliverymileageub=&listingtype=used&keywords=
  4. We leased a house with an option to purchased that was directly across the street from a large school (5th-12th). We had lots of parking issues (blocking drive, parking on grass, etc) but over the year we lived there, the biggest issue was the constant trash dropped by kids walking to and fro'.
  5. Great first trip. MPG will get even better once the ICE gets more miles on. With nearly 5k miles now on mine, the transition from EV to ICE is very smooth and sometimes imperceptible as compared to new. Read up and learn to use the mileage techniques found here. They will pay dividends.
  6. Shish. The wife doesn't know!
  7. If you have an SEL with option packages 302a or 303a, you have the hands-free lift gate.
  8. My first good solid 60+ trip. A/C on auto 74f & recirc
  9. CHICKEN! *bock............. bock, bock, bock* :stirpot: :hysterical:
  10. Anyone noticed that? I don't mean a whole lot but it seems the battery state of charge (SOC) increases a bit after a few hours of sitting. For example, I sometimes make it to work with a pretty low battery, the EV+ kicks in, and I make it to my parking spot on battery "fumes" according to the gauge. Sits all day. Upon leaving with a/c blasting to cool things down, I usually still have more than enough juice to go a couple of blocks (careful acceleration of course) before the ICE kicks on.
  11. EV+ will also let you run the battery SOC (state of charge) lower than usual to hopefully ensure you make it to that EV+ destination on battery and not fire up the ICE.
  12. Yup, fan and a/c compressor along with tire noise are usually enough for most pedestrians to hear a hybrid in EV mode coming but if the ambient noise level is high, for example a parking lot near an expressway, then some sort of horn type sound may be needed.
  13. Absolute tank capacity is somewhere between 13.5-13.8 gallons according to those who've run it completely dry. Not that I'm trying to temp you into anything Snit............ ;)
  14. My volt had a soft notification that sounded somewhat like a muted chirp developed specifically for pedestrians. I actually used it a lot to signal my kids when picking them up at school as no other car sounded like it. Here's a sample:
  15. Snow, one fellow here likened what you're thinking to surfing. The hills in his scenario were highway/expressway overpasses. His thinking was to power up and over them while also charging the battery and then surf one's way back down with EV assist and gravity. This, of course, has to be done at speeds around or below the 62mph threshold. I wish I could recall that thread.
  16. Sure. Go into the setting menu on the left screen display. It's under the driver assist sub-menu. Toggle on or off.
  17. Yes, the AVG meter stays on the left and the instant on the right. This is NOT your lifetime avg though. That is typically only viewed on the left screen after you power down. The first display will be the trip summary of the last power on to off cycle. This will remain for a few seconds and then it will change to the cars' lifetime mpg display. You can use the left steering wheel up/down arrows to switch between the two. Since you bought the car used, there is no telling what the lifetime value truly reflects. Again, I suggest you reset this one too so as to reflect your driving and not that of the previous owner. (pg 123 in the manual)
  18. It is believed there are wiring connectors in the front of the car that are getting water in them and causing a slow draw down. Because the 12V battery in a hybrid doesn't have to crank start the gas engine (the large hybrid battery does that), it can be much smaller than the one in a "regular" car so it doesn't take too long to discharge it.
  19. Glad your new ownership is a happy one! Trust me, it only gets better. I LOVE the sound of squeaky tires in the garage. I have an epoxied floor and just cleaned it over the holiday weekend and boy they really squeak now! You can make EV+ learn a spot instantly by powering the car on and off 11+ times in succession.
  20. Hmmm, another SE. Did any of these occurrences happen after washing the car or driving through puddles of water?
  21. Yes, the instant meter is available as a choice in Menu 5 (the right side of My View). Page 114 of the owners manual. Check it out online: http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/1603-on-line-owners-manual/ You can reset the lifetime avg (buried in the settings menu to avoid accidental deletion) so it will only reflect your ownership. I would.
  22. Here's some pics of the intro-tech installed. Nit-picking: I think it could fit a little more snug around the mirror area.
  23. I have 3.5.1 and a March build and have found the arrow off the road on one occasion but it corrected itself after a curve or two. It also didn't recognize a year old toll road here in Texas. The good news is it didn't go beserk trying to constantly reroute me.
  24. And so is its pilot. That's AWESOME! :worship:
