  1. Or they are simply removed to avoid theft and/or accidental disposal. Another possibility: the glovebox. My metal keys and a package of 8 license plate screws were located there.
  2. Well I knew what it was but had declined it on previous purchases but I got it on the CMAX because I wasn't going to have much equity due to trade-in loss. I, too, hope I never need it.
  3. As JAZ said, you should get the memory card package which states what version you have. Also while there, you should be asked to sign up on syncmyride.com On that website, you can check what versions of firmware and maps are loaded in the car.
  4. NPR on HD radio 40%, Sirius "The Pulse" 20%, and nothing but blissful hybrid silence the rest of the time! Speaking of covers, I usually don't like them but the one on KISS called "KISS MY A**: Classic Kiss Regrooved" is awesome. This Amazon reviewer summed it up well: "This set is a great example of how Kiss has changed the face and sound of music in the last 25 years. Who would have thought that a country singer(Garth Brooks), a soul singer (Lenny Kravitz), an alternitive group (Nine inch Nails), and a Metal artist (Anthraz) would be on one album! The "unplugged" "Rock & roll all Night" by Toad the wet Sprocket is excellent. This collection is a must for every Kiss fan." http://www.amazon.com/Kiss-My-Ass-Classic-Regrooved/dp/B000001E4B
  5. I'm experiencing the opposite. For this time of year, we just had a strong cool front so I haven't been using the a/c and my mileage has shot up. I only have had it for a month and 2,000 miles so not a lot of experience but I'm thinking at least 3-4mpg hit for a/c use. My morning commute leg usually averages 44ish but this a.m. it shot up to 48 without a/c even though I had to wait on a long train. Glides last longer, etc. If using auto temp, be careful about setting the temp too high as that can trigger the ICE to run sooner and/or longer to provide heat even though you have the a/c on.
  6. Perfect choice but I may be a tad bias. ;) Congrats. The mileage will just get better once both you and the car break in.
  7. Yes, the map sd card. It should come in a sealed plastic case just like if you were buying a new SD card.
  8. The OM is vague but says this on page 152: "Your cabin air filter is located in the passenger foot well area. " So, yeah, I'd say the usual place behind the glove box but I haven't looked yet.
  9. Oh, it can and will. But in the hands of an ignorant driver or, in the case of my wife, someone who doesn't care nor pays the gas bills, it will get less. In my hands, I could get 48-50mpg trying real hard and 44-46mpg without too much effort. I suspect I will get 43-45mpg with the C-Max over a years driving. Too much wind, heat and humidity (a/c use about 80% of the year) to get max numbers here. Add in 75-85mph LEGAL interstate speeds here in Texas, there's no way I'll get 47 hwy! A couple of years ago a woman who owned a honda civic hybrid, couldn't reach the EPA estimates. She sued in small claims court and won but I'm sure it was appealed.
  10. Yeah, a hybrid with a radar detector is somewhat of an oxymoron but hey there's probably at least one F350 dually diesel 4x4 owner out there trying to hyper-mile! OK, maybe not but I digress....... :) Along with ambient lighting, there's also the auto-dim mirror option so there's definitely power leads up there hidden by the headliner. You should have no problem tapping into one of them. Hopefully someone with access to a service manual can tell you which ones are +/-.
  11. If fuelly.com is your best evidence, you don't have much of a case. Pretty much every car on that site including the mighty prius fall below the EPA average. Also, the car was released in the fall/winter so numbers will be low and rise through the warmer months. I do agree 47 highway is tough to match in the real world but is that lawsuit worthy? No. My wife average 39-41mpg in our prius which is an even bigger discrepancy. :redcard:
  12. My guess: the fuel level sensor calibration is off for the second half of the tank. I've seen this in other cars: first 1/2=200 miles, second 1/2=160 miles, etc.
  13. My last three cars have been hybrids so, no, the C-Max hasn't changed my driving. What car really did was my first new car: a 1984 Honda CRX-HF that my dad helped me buy. The HF stood for high fuel. Back then with the 55mph national speed limit, it got 45ish on the highway with a personal best 54mpg tank benefiting from a tailwind on most of the trip and regularly got 40-43mpg in town. I got real spoiled by the $20/month fuel bill back then.
  14. FWIW, I have 3+ years of using these types of screens in cars and have yet to notice one imperfection besides fingerprint smudges. For cleaning, I use a california duster followed by a light wiping with a moist cloth soaked in weak cleaning solution or sometimes amonia-free window cleaner. The OM calls for using alcohol.
  15. Discovered another find while reading another thread. I failed to turn on the ambient temp on the central display. It's in the settings menu. I went through all of these the first day but somehow missed it. Now it's MUCH easier to see than the smaller one in the right drivers screen that other passengers can never see.
  16. They are actually warranted to 10 years or 150,000 miles in CARB states. Future costs? Anyone's guess. Except for the newer plug in model, the prius uses lower cost NiMH batteries that are costing $2700-3,000 for new packs from Toyota (some dealers charge more, WAY more). Owners are also buying salvaged batteries out of low miles wrecked units for $4-800 while other DIY'ers are simply replacing the few bad or low performing cells in their failing packs. Finally there are small companies springing up that are rebuilding/repairing cell packs with warranties that you purchase, return your failed pack to them, and they repair it and sell it to the next customer. To get regular ICE vehicle mileage up, manufactures are resorting to higher and higher speed transmissions. These are getting so sophisticated that GM and Ford are going to team together to build the next generation 8+ speed transmissions. What do you think those are going to cost to replace?
  17. It's also used to fill the engine coolant reservoir..... (page 284). That's why I prefer this method: http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/index.php?/topic/1603-on-line-owners-manual/
  18. Take a tip from UPS and other commercial drivers: honk first. A short double-tap is more polite than a long burst. The prius has a reverse, pulsating beep............ but it's on the INSIDE of the car. :headscratch:  Talk about a source of constant frustration; especially for drivers with long driveways or have to wait on traffic for long periods. Even the fanboys can't explain that one. :O
  19. Hey Bev, I'm a previous Prius owner and will say yes it's worth it the added costs. With the 302a package, you basically get everything you can get except the parking package. Unlike the prius, all 5 doors have the keyless sensor. Although the view out the back window is better than the prius I still think the camera is worth it and works well at night. The reverse system uses sonar and beeps to alert you to obstacles. The myfordtouch (MFT) is the technology/info/entertain center. The prius version is called entune. With the 302a package, you will also get the much better sound system and navigation added to this system. The power lift gate is a really, really nice feature for those of us with kids and/or lots of hauling duties. 302a will add the hands free feature which is cool and can be really helpful.
  20. Spent the weekend at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin watching MotoGP (fastest riders in the world). Great weather and lots of folks.
  21. Yes, they are GREAT cars! I'm assuming you mean battery/EV range. If so, my 2012 was rated at 35 miles but I regularly got 42-44 and never dipped below 39 estimated the entire time of ownership. Folks in your area can get 50+ miles plus the coveted HOV access. I had a level 2 charger that allows 5 miles/hr charging so I could get even more range quickly. My best ever EV only day was 82 miles (2.5 charges). My best range off one battery charge was 62 miles (30mph avg). My best tank (8gal) lasted 6 weeks and 2400 miles. The gas generator usually avg about 39mpg but I rarely used it (1,000 miles over 6 months). Plug-ins are a whole new ball game.
  22. Yes, in the settings menu on the left screen. Pg. 122 in the OM.
