most likely because we rule ;) jk because the weather is better out here to not skew the comments regarding factors that are uncontrollable and there are alot more hybrids/cmaxes out here than any other city. proven fact. with a bigger population to draw from they will get more feedback testers/surveys to analyze their data.

16 is not enough data points to be a representative sample. need 30-50 data points. more is always better even analyzing data. but yes most folks know temp is a big contributor for good mpg. i also track my mpg for both in and back from work and track the outside temp, if ac or heater was used, travel time, avg speed on mph, if i had traffic or no traffic, etc, so i know which data points are valid to use and part of the same "process"and which to throw out. if you have a copy of Minitab statistical software you can do some good data analysis and control charts to know which data are/aren't valid.

My 2012 Passat also over reports my mpg on its dash by about 1-2 mpg. frustrating for sure. it may have something to do with the car calculating by the time the car is on even if you don't have the engine on. if you are using the radio in accessory mode it will count that as trip time.

why in the world would you put on super inefficient roof rails that steal your mpgs on a hybrid car!!?? totally counterproductive.

interesting. I'm surprised the govt or NHTS hasn't mandated these in hybrid vehicles.

i agree and think Ford really missed the mark taking up so much space for the battery. I'm sure it turned off many due to that reason. if they made a c-max style hybrid version of the Escape with a larger size and with the battery hidden out of view that would be the best. they would have sold many more Energi Cmaxes. I'm sure some folks just went to the competition instead of going to the regular cmax. maybe they will redesign it for 2015/16 to fix this problem.

want to get the 2014 for my wife. wonder if we should get it ordered up asap or wait for a few to roll off the line first. soon e the new ones will supposedly get better mpg than the 13s they might be in even higher demand so that might mean longer wait times.

where are the new mods for aerodynamic? the video for number 3 clearly stated it was the 2013 model in the lower left corner. please make sure you post accurate into. i think 2 of these are not for the new 2014 model at all.

any pix with a light shining on them in the dark at night? is this legal? i assume it helps make the car more visible

i think Jus knows what i mean when i say, watch out for the BMWs in Glendale,CA... seems to be the capital of BMW and Mercedes. i think he knows the population makeup there now. was very different even i lived there growing up though. sadly too many kids are spoiled by their rich dads and given expensive cars like BMWs.

JUStin, so glad to hear you decided to try out the gas pods and test for yourself. if we can trust anyone data and testing methods it's yours for sure. glad to see they are helping you out and working as advertised. did you end up getting the magnetic ones, i hope. on a decent note.... dude, what the heck happened though??? you in an accident?? i guess a LOT of changes happened while I have been away. :( where can i read the post/story/thread about the incident as i am so behind in the posts now i won't be able to ever find it or catch up? i hope you are ok.you mentioned ER! i spent enough time in the hospital last year to last me my life so i know how that goes...no fun for sure. i also know all about getting your car totaled/damaged in an accident. happened to me last year in my old 2004.5 Passat. I'm sad to hear if your mpg king/supreme being cmax car was totaled/damaged. Will they fix it? wonder if you will get a 2014 to replace. if you knew you would be doing lots of short trips before the engine was warm, why didn't you buy the plugin version Energi instead, which would have been using electric mode around town instead of gas? much more conducive to your style of driving.

very cool article and new testing methods. looking forward to seeing other cars tested this way for comparison. i do wish they would have discussed how they compensated for the extra weight and bad aerodynamics of the year equipment though. does this mean without the gear it will get 50mpg??? :) hope they get a early model 2014 to test soon....

if your gas cars dont have an instantaneous mpg gage/reading you can get a scangage tool to improve your mpg or get a smartphone app and an obdii reader to see the cars details to improve your mpgs. i do the instant mpg displayon my gas passat and always try and max my mog each trip/tank

sounds exactly like my wifes situation now with her suv and why she wants a new car/cmax asap.

yes i know those hills well. used to drive them even i had hospital visits over there long ago. can't wait to see how the cmax does on some of the rolling hills on my new way to work. let's hope you can convince her to join the "dark side" ;)
