In addition to naming my C-Max Energi "Sparky"

My wife's Ford Fusion is named "Sunny", because nuclear "fusion" is what powers the sun

Our Mazda Miata weekend car is named "Szybki", Polish language for "speedy" or "fast", pronounced like "Ship Key", a nod to my heritage

I finally named mine when I joined Fuelly.com - Gray Lady, sometimes I call her Lady Gray - and thought about naming her Fifty for some unknown reason, but wasn't sure I wanted to have to explain that to my grandkids.

I couldn't do Maxine - because that was my mom's name, but who knows, she may have liked it.

I love it!    :hi5: Most of the time I can tell if a member here is male or female by the name they give their car.  The men like to name their cars women's names and the women like to name their cars men's names.  As I mentioned in a post a while back my car is named Max  :shift: and my sync is Maxine.

Mine is named after a fruit, what does that make me?

I will call him Max unless I have problems.  If so, I will call him Gizmo (from Gremlins)......... :hysterical:

That's about as bad as my wife & I calling a male cat "Stripe" cause he has a white stripe in a sea of orange on his face, plus the attitude to match, & his sisters, Kate (Billy's girlfriend) & Marla (Billy's supervisor in Gremlins 2).

Concerning C-Max name, we chose Neytiri (AVATAR) being the C-Max is environmentally friendly.

That would be nice if we could change the voice to something a bit less robotic sounding, as well as change the NAV icon to something other than the red compass point.

I haven't named my car yet....will have to think about it.

I am glad someone else thinks it looks like a fish. I call the front a catfish mouth. :-)

Sometimes I do call my car The White Ninja, mostly when I'm in Stealth Mode (electric mode) and sneaking up on a pedestrian who has no idea I'm there. Too funny when they startle as I drive by.

Stealth Mode Engaged.

(Just showed my nerd side haha.)

I just named my car!!!!

I think the platinum white looks like moonlight sparkling so how about Luna! My online name has akways been Lunawolf so Luna is perfect.

Glad i read this thread! :-)

Luna the Moonlight White Ninja. Lol

Frank,

Yes, that perspective especially reminds me of a whale shark! You realize, of course, that whale sharks are filter feeders who feast on plankton, right? They are extremely docile, curious, and will slow down to have a look at you. They are also very endangered because it is (completely falsely) believed in Chinese culture that their fins have medicinal properties that improve male virility (gag.) Every scuba diver I know has a whale shark on their "bucket list" and I've been blessed to see them 4x. Here's a great youtube taken by my dive buddies about them -->

Boy or girl car? U could name it Silvia since it's silver.

Not sure... like I said, trying to let it develop its own personality organically.

Think I might prefer a boy car, women can be needy for attention... I've fixed cars in my youth just be telling em; "All right, that is ENOUGH, one more breakdown and you're getting SOLD!" Whereupon the car would magically run great for a while where before it was breaking down at least weekly (I was young, didn't know any better than to not buy a british car, let alone one that only cost $600).

Would hope that a male car would simply take satisfaction in doing the job, being the rock I depend upon to get me to my work and back, and take my family and I to where we want and need to be, without fuss or drama or need for overmuch attention, a strong stoic manservant / bodyguard / friend who understands with a look just how much I appreciate all he's done for me and that it's been done well.

That may sound hella odd coming from a backyard scientist like myself, but I always harken back to a story I read about a guy who built 3 robots who developed distinct personalities despite being made from identical parts (which actually could be explained by the natural variability / tolerance of those selfsame electrical components themselves... each resister, transistor, etc., on a given board may be 5%-10% different from an "identical" one next to it, (or even 20%) but anyways, these three robots all had a solar panel, whereby they would "eat", a circuit that would sense battery level, and shut down "eating" when their battery was full, bump and camera sensors to be able to sense and feel their environment, memory to learn the floorplan, etc.

One bot had the "kid" personality, and would zip around the house exploring, getting stuck in a corner or highsiding on a rug until he had to be rescued, one was a lazy adult that would slowly glide about, spending long periods parked in the sunlight from a window, and one was a grumpy old man that would "eat" until he was "full" and then retreat to sulk under a chair, rarely venturing out until his battery wore down.

I'm not saying I do believe it and I'm not sayin I don't, but I will say the idea of cars, boats, etc., having spirits or personalities is hardly a new one, and deserving of a little caution, after all, if we're wrong it doesn't hurt much except we've acted a bit silly maybe, but if we're right, the universe is a much more interesting place and we've treated a unique being with love and respect, hardly a bad thing.

Well put.
