I tried the ECO Mode on a 2017 CMAX Hybrid and didn't like it. It acts like a Prius/NIRO want to be(Not Good), I still believe the EV to 15mph then 2 Bar acceleration to speed will get better gas mileage, because of how the Hybrid System is designed to operate. :) :shift: I believe the ICE runs more efficiently at 2 Bars and if you move away from that MPG's will go down. Are you using EV15/2 Bar? Paul

How to Drive a CMAX Hybrid/FFH to get Great Gas Mileage
ptjones replied to ptjones's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
Up to 234 views total for my YouTube videos now. :) Would be nice to see an improvement on Fuelly.com. :) Paul -
That would have been nice, but I would miss the handling, CMAX is so much fun to drive. :shift: Paul

Space was my biggest motivator going from 2010 FEH to CMAX, lost some usable space. Otherwise I would have gotten an NRG. BTW that money comes off your TAXES so you have make enough to be able to deduct it. Paul

One of the advantages of drafting, speeders don't bother you other than slipping in front of you Paul

How to Drive a CMAX Hybrid/FFH to get Great Gas Mileage
ptjones replied to ptjones's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
Hills are usually 100-200FT elevation changes, some more. With the camera it is hard to tell if you are going uphill or down and in fact I have found it is hard for me to tell if I'm going up or down sometimes. I watch the Garmin GPS elevation changes and small angles changes I can't tell. :headscratch: The whole purpose of this Thread is to explain most things that can be done to improve MPG's in a simple video that most members can understand. :) Paul -
At 50*F you are down 4 mpg as compared to 70*F, 50psi in tires?

How to Drive a CMAX Hybrid/FFH to get Great Gas Mileage
ptjones replied to ptjones's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
My main driver is MPG's and cost is a extra benefit which I have to add in the cost of Premium (+$.35-.40 a gallon). For me doing all these MPG TIPS keeps my brain active and not that much stress, it's become a habit for me. :) You know going across country many times it gets to be boring and doing these TIPS keeps me awake. :) BTW you can speed and use these TIPS, plenty of Semis drive over the speed limit if saving time is your priority. :) Thinking about it going over the speed limit has always added stress of looking for Law enforcement and things happen quicker. In the end everyone makes the decision how they want to drive, This thread shows the options. :) Paul -
I have made three YouTube Videos for driving a CMAX the way it was designed to be driven Called How to drive a CMAX Hybrid to get great gas mileage, Also CMAX Mods to improve MPG's and Hypermiling to improve MPG's. Efficiency and Aerodynamic Mods: The First thing to do is to raise your tire pressure of your Michelin's to 50psi which is safe to do and I got 64k miles for each set of tires on my CMAX. :) Hypermiling Video not recommended for those who can't focus on institutional awareness of traffic around you all the time. Let me know what you think, any improvements. :)

2017 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid -- Niro's cousin

That's surprising, they didn't have one at the Atlanta Show. I guess they ran out of room. Paul -
Brake Rottors strange wear pattern
ptjones replied to David Toth's topic in Brakes, Chassis, Park Assist & Suspension
Is that caused from what they put on the ice on the roads during the winter? Paul -
I have never used a M1 filter, just FORD and K&N. :) Paul

Very impressive! What is your Life Time Score? :) Got mine in Oct 2012. I also hit deer and repaired around 40K mi. with 151k mi.now 75k mi. ICE so got a while to go to change the plugs. Replaced trans at 98k mi. under warranty. :) Two sets of tires no injectors yet :) Paul

And It keeps going up. :yahoo: Paul -
From the album: 2013 C-Max
4/517 Life Time Score -
IMO Experience trumps everything else :), like I said before I have 151K mi and I don't use a noticeable amount in 14K ICE miles and Blackstone Labs Report is the best I have had. So using FORD oil filters and Mobil 1 is plenty good enough for the ICE to out last the car. Spending anymore is a waist of money unless the oil filter improves MPG's like maybe K&N. :) Paul

This is what accelerating at 2 Bars looks like. I have a three part video called How to Drive a CMAX Hybrid/FFH to get Great Gas Mileage, CMAX Mods to improve efficiency and aerodynamics, and Hypermiling the CMAX Hybrid/FFH to improve MPG's. I'm hoping to have it on YouTube by this weekend. :) Paul

I have a problem with EPA testing in that it doesn't take into account the way the CMAX was designed to be driven, 2 Bar acceleration technique. I don't know if this is FORD's fault for not informing EPA how CMAX was designed to be driven or EPA's program can't be changed to accommodate different Hybrid Manufactures driving techniques. :headscratch: It seems to me the 2 Bar acceleration technique is worth up to 4 mpg. :) IMO Paul

I watched video and he wasn't maintaining speed, You could see the speedometer going down slowly, don't know if he was going down hill or not. All I know is when I drove the NIRO's they wouldn't maintain speed above 40mph without the ICE coming on. Just for a comparison this is what I have done and I averaged 33.2 mph. :) Paul
-
Interesting that it had 15" and 17" wheels compared to 16" and 18" wheels for the KIA NIRO. Hyundai Ioniq is really a Prius competitor, not Prius V, CMAX or NIRO. More aerodynamic, wonder what kind of handling with those small tires. :headscratch: 10 miles is shorter than any of the test I did on NIRO, I don't think it's very accurate. Paul

Frank, your not doing Fuelly anymore? Curious how the Grill Covers are doing. :headscratch: Paul

In my case I drive to many miles per year( 30k mi.+) which works out to 15k ICE miles so i'm not going to be going much farther than a year. :) Paul

Anyone in Atlanta Area looking to improving their MPG's?
ptjones replied to ptjones's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
Some local help wouldn't hurt, but I can do it myself If I have to. :) Does look funny with GoPro camera hanging from side window in front of me so I can get Smart Gauge and ScanGaugeII at the same time. :) Paul -
You are getting very good MPG's with your CRV, With a little practice you should do very well in the CMAX. EV to 15mph, accelerate at 2 bars ICE and you will do great! :) Paul
-
I think a more important measure would to be to fill up your tank to see how many gallons you used and divide in to the number of miles to get accurate measure of MPG's like we do for Fuelly.com. Car MPG gauges exaggerate all the time. :) Paul
