I was underneath my SEL today to do a fesability study for adding additional Undercarriage panels to smooth airflow under the car. Assuming that the panel Ford provided under the engine works there are areas towards the back left uncovered that in theory could cause air disruption or cavitation in the flow path. Just past the gas tank cover and in front of the metal crossmember for the rear suspension there is a large opening left presumably to gain access to an electronic module of some kind which is partially protected from heat of the exhaust by an aluminized cover. Also behind the rear tires and leading to the rear valance panel there is the large void containing items like the battery, muffler. All of these areas could be covered fairly easily by fabricating a covering similar to the Ford cover under the engine. I have been toying with the idea of constructing a rear air diffuser that could be mounted on the undercarriage by various means of fasteners. Then conforming under the muffler on to the rear valance. Also in the spaces around and behind the rear wheels. I have an idea how to accomplish the fabrication but lack the tools and shop to do it. It is my feeling that 3rd party suppliers of this sort of product will never build something like this for fthe CMax since it might be considered as not a performance vehicle which has driven so many other products to be made for the many Japanese and Euro sport cars. So I just might have to take this on to start interest for the CMax, but I'm not sure how with the lack of resources.

Jus, I've not given up on them yet so I'll hang on to them. I took some pics of both the black pods using adhesive to the pano window and the white pods using the rare earth magnets. Even if they don't show improved MPG, I just like the styling it has added to my Max. Looks racy and if I can fabricate a front splitter and rear difusser this will just enhance the Euro-look I'm trying to create. You will notice that the white pods are not a true color match. That is because they aren't. They are painted for another car but the company that makes the pods had them laying around and sent them to me after hearing how I screwed up my rear spoiler with the first installation. Guess they felt sorry for me? Actually it worked to my advantage since I have both sets and can color match them to the locations on the car. I've been using 3M 10lb rated gel adhesive to mount the black ones in their various locations. I think this is the same adhesive which they came with from the manufacturer.

Sorry answered your question further down this thread.

I have a set of 9 rare earth magnetic GasPods on my CMax and love them. No problems with attaching them to the metal painted surfaces. They are strong but not so strong that it is difficult to place them how and where you want them. Mine are painted to match my Platinum White color. I have them located along the portion of the roof where it meets the edge of the LiftGate. I also have a group of 9 black adhesive mounted GasPods across the roof on the glass. Blend into the the black glass of the pano roof. Not sure if they are helping any with MPG since my Max rarely gets higher than 45 and stay there for very long. My best MPG seems to come while driving at freeway speeds. We'll see after the August upgrade what happens?

I AM NOT going to adopt the new FE improvements
mtb9153 replied to catsailor's topic in Fuel Mileage
I for one look forward to the enhancements, I've got nothing to loose. Since 3.5.1 my AvMPG has not changed and I didn't expect it to since it wasn't focusing on fuel mileage enhancement for either short drives or long drives. I can reset my fuel history and see wonderful numbers in short order. But as things settle down the 60's, 50's and high 40's fall away to low 40's and even mid to upper 30's. I want 40's and 50's all the time and I'd be pleasantly surprised if I could achieve 70's -
First off let me say I used to be a motor speed freak while using allot of premium gas in my GMC Syclone. Now I want to mod the looks of my Max with cool aerodynamic add-on's made from carbon fiber for that high tech look despite the cost. Sort of want to copy all the young guys in their euro speed rockets. But alas there are no 3rd party makers of such toys for my Max..at least not yet and I hope it is because the Max is still a new model? I find myself dreaming of trying to fabricate my own front air splitter under the front bumper. Also a rear air disfuser for mounting just behind the rear suspension and run back under the muffler up to the rear bumper. But that will probably screw up the functionality of the one kick tailgate feature? But I'd be willing to give it up for a cool looking rear difuser that integrated with the rear bumper. Want my Max to look like a euro road racer without exceeding 85mph once 3.6x installed. For now dreaming of aero mods.

What accessories or add-ons would like you to see for the C-Max

Yes I agree with this since my previous ride a Saturn Vue had adjustable side curtains which could be pulled out for more sun protection in the evenings. -

My iP5 paired with my MFT before 3.5.1 with no problems. After 3.5.1 that was not the case. Tried over and over to pair but no success. Drove around for awhile without hands free phone service. One day the wife tried pairing her iP4s with the MFT. It paired without a hitch. She tried pairing my iP5 again and it paired fine, go figure  :headscratch: -
Well wanted to share this picture which I took today. Earlier I took off on a mini road trip up freeway 280 towards South San Francisco. Crossed over to 101 south and heading back towards San Jose. Round trip about 75 miles and as I drove up 280 towards SFO I saw MPG numbers fluctuating up and down +/- 1 to 2 mpg at first as I make the climb up towards the city while driving along side the San Andreas Fault Line. There is a stretch of 280 after driving past the 99 interchange towards Half Moon Bay and the freeway starts to really increase in altitude as you get closer towards South SF. Probably a 200 or so feet gradual increase from the 99 interchange until I head east towards the 101 interchange. It is a continuous slight up and down drive for more than 10 miles I'd say, geography pushed up by the formation of the fault line. Mileage was as high as 54 and fell back to 37 in some of the longer sustained up hill sections. But by the time I got down to 101 along side the SF bay and while driving past Candlestick Park (former home of the Giants and 49'ers), my mileage had stabilized again at 45. Continued to fluctuate +/- several tenths all the way back to San Jose. By the time I pull off freeway 85 in Los Gatos my mileage was back up to the 47 mark. I stopped by to visit my Dad at his care facility about two miles from my home. Mileage was at 48mpg. Left the facility and drove home, pulled into the garage and shut off the ignition and recorded the picture attached below with my personal best for any lengthy traveling in over two weeks. I have been stuck in the 32 to 37 range for over a week while driving on city surface streets. It almost seems like my Max does better out on the freeway these days. Temps today were in the upper 80's in the sillycorn valley where I live. As I approached SFO the fog was rolling over the coastal mountains as it always does in the evenings as dusk approaches, so outside temps fell to 69 according to my dash temperature. So there you have my drive this evening pretty much as it happened. So everyone was along for the ride to San Francisco this evening, hope you enjoyed it? :)

Didn't start driving until after high school (1971), but here's a list of my rides up to my Max. 1. 1972 Plymouth 'Cuda 340 Hurst Pistol Grip 4-speed (should have kept this car) 2. 1971 AMC AMX 390 3. 1974 Pontiac Trans Am Super Duty 455 w/4-speed 4. 1971 Datsun 240Z (I swapped the 6 cylinder engine for a '68 Chevy 327 which put out 340hp) that I built from scratch. Muncie M-22 4 speed 5. 1991 GMC Syclone tubrocharged, AWD (Fastest Production Truck ever built) 0-60mph in 4.6 seconds, in the rain 6. 1992 GMC Typhoon, sister to my Syclone in Sport Utility trim 7. 2013 Ford CMax Future possible ride...Tesla if I could ever afford one? Obviously the CMax is the opposite direction from all of the above. Got tired of paying at the pump more than once a week, but what a rush it was while it lasted. San Jose Police knew me well.

Got mine today, installs really well and works great by keeping things where they belong on the top shelf. Thanks again for making these available. -
I'm really sorry to hear this, hope it never happens to my pano window but I hope repairs are painless for you.

I really donot plan to use this feature while driving. The hazards of doing so are obvious. I mainly want it while parked and hanging in the car, I get tired of having to hold or balance my iPad on the steering wheel.
-
tried that using a composite cable I bought from Apple. All it succeeds in doing is connecting the audio of my iPad through the cars speakers which is nice but not what I was wanting.

Does anybody know if it is possible to play video on the MFT from an external source like an iPad?

Was able to achieve a 12 minute drive in my CMax today on surface streets at 45mph with A/C on max. Used .1 gallons of fuel and the rest of the distance on full electric battery power. Logged a 54mpg rating on the computer across 8.2 miles. Not bad for a car many are saying can't deliver the numbers the EPA rated for a CMax at 47/47mpg. Didn't get a picture to prove my claims, but did take a screenshot of another trip I logged the same day over shorter distance. Attached below.

Just placed a PayPal order for one of your glove box thingy's. Very nice and thanks for making these for whomever wants one. My wife will especially like this since she keeps so much crap in my glovebox. Take care. -
To those of you who washed your Max, you know they say it will always rain once you wash your car. We are pretty safe here on the west coast since it usually only rains from October to May unless we slip out of orbit or something? :love_shower:

nope got a 45% on some occasions. 50's are quite common
