I really enjoy reading how all the owners/posters here drive and achieve in all the different ways. I am a 1st time hybrid owner myself and quite astonished to see my driving habits changed to what we call "hypermilers" and getting into the MPG game. 2 years ago, I would have said,"hyper what?".... "hyperdrive" right? So what type of driver are you NOW in your CMax? Hypermiler - someone who does pulse & glide, easy on the brakes and watches the light but not PO the rear cars.Real World drivers - like what you see on the road, hard press gas to race to the next light and hit the brakes hard.Somewhere in between "real" and "hyper". This last class is the most interesting to me - what is it that you do to put yourself "somewhere in between"? Do you miss your old driving habits? Does the CMax make you a better or worse driver? How? Discuss away.

Not yet but you will ;) This article is a little dated but nonetheless may give some insight into JD: The Trouble with JD Powers Initial Quality Study Feature Discuss away :)

Have you had this since the 3.5.1? My SEL was caused by the SD card which the 3.5.1 has since updated to the A4.

Journey to 800+ Miles on a single tank in a C-Max Hybrid
Jus-A-CMax replied to Jus-A-CMax's topic in Fuel Mileage
You both should see who does the best MPG while staying within 3mph around the speed limit. That way - the competition would improve your driving and awareness, all of them good  -
Reason why in California its mandatory to have a carbon monoxide detector per level for any house purchase (some refi as well).
-
I might add that if you can find a semi who goes at 60mph (and they do over here in CA due to the 55mph limit law), that would be perfect - because you can pulse up to 66, let it drop to regen and hit the EV at 60 exactly to maintain that speed as much as possible and drift down to 58mph. Rinse & repeat. Yeah, less speed but you're buying MPG points there. Thats what I use for Mammoth at full load.

700 is next  LOL, I am watching the Ford Escape add on cable as I type this....with that chick who compares her Ford to the beemer. Great MPG in an Escape with the ecoboost. O'rely :hysterical:

No chance, I won't be home until nealy 7:30PM tomorrow evening. I forgot I have a haircut. Now if I obsessed, I would have got my haircut a week before to save the weight and add 0.25 miles

Journey to 800+ Miles on a single tank in a C-Max Hybrid
Jus-A-CMax replied to Jus-A-CMax's topic in Fuel Mileage
Yeah. All surface streets. If I am lucky I might get a run of 3 or 4 lights or if I am unlucky, stop on all 3 or 4 lights. Funny enuf, there is no advatnage of taking the freeways either due to the lovely congestions on the freeways. All peak hours travelling except lunch. Plus you can add about a min or 2 each time for me to put up the heatshield and then photograph the trip computers & summary. -
Awh...you're gonna miss my 800, not going to post it up until this time tomorrow ;)

Journey to 800+ Miles on a single tank in a C-Max Hybrid
Jus-A-CMax replied to Jus-A-CMax's topic in Fuel Mileage
Tank for today only, still consistently high when I drive to work, lunch and back home including 2 hill climbs at the end which really SUCK. The gas ;) Not quite there but I know my miles & usage and definitely tomorrow, I should be over the 800 mark with still some more miles left in the tank. If I am right, its still looking like 820-830 final. Hopes of 850 has faded even if I suck the vapour. I think the trouble is the trek home, best I can do is 58MPG and I typically average 54-55MPG. But around the valley and going to work, it's a KILLER KILLER HIGH MPG car. Guys, until you learn to feather the CMax pedal, you do not know how GOOD this car is around the surface streets. I doubt the Prius can do these MPGs and keep up with the traffic. And no, I have never been horned or fingered while doing any hypermiling as I try not to PO any rear drivers. Unfortunately, my S4 is not the best at putting up pictures so will have to wait after I get home to post up the final mile. Wish me luck for the last trek :) -

No worries cgul, wish my gas was that cheap. Posting from work. Got back from lunch with another crazy 70.7mpg for 20 miles, pure flat valley driving. Nutz. :woohoo: -
"Fuel Efficient Vehicle Parking" spaces?

:wub2: these stories. -
#2 oh have I got chips to dissuade u. I think that checking out the rear flaps and road as a PRE-caution before drafting.

What Matt and I do is pushing the limits of this car in a real world driving. No loops around a test circuit. It ain't easy to clock up these miles and MPG but it really has thought me so much more about roads/terrain, traffic and driver behavior which when I was driving a gas car, I was one of Mr Oblivious. However what I find is that my hypermiling is now "normal" driving and I reap the rewards of passing gas stations and waiting in line & saving beer/food money. I think we all forget we have choices with this Cmax, no push buttons.... jus your right feet. No right way to drive nor wrong and whatever expectations you have, it's all you to keep or change. Blue pill or the red pill?

FE driving is not for everyone and as u found out, may detract from enjoying the car. As well, gauge watching is extremely dangerous, like learning to drum with both hands..takes practice. Anyway, keep posting and driving as there is so much good things to talk about :shift: & :)

Journey to 800+ Miles on a single tank in a C-Max Hybrid
Jus-A-CMax replied to Jus-A-CMax's topic in Fuel Mileage
Much better run in this morning 78.9 mpg for the 22 miles. 750 mile mark has been crossed and still under 12 gallons. Projecting maybe 810-820 final because I still have to pay for this morning's run, got 2 hills to climb near home. Carrying spare gas ad well and took out my golf clubs/shag bag to save weight. -

Thank god for Galpin they don't do this with mine or many other Cmaxs in the valley. Sorry to hear about this sdaustin, at least you got a loanerand new pcb/components. -

Testdriver-same here, gotta keep`em women happy :) No worries, one day and I don't think you're that far off either, give it time. Cgul..gas is around $4 in the valley. Ca pays more for everything in this whacked out state :runaway: -
I don't know what the deal is there with these ubber low mpg cars, drivers? I asked a similar Q to Matt in my 800 thread. Both our cars have gotten way better than a "normal" engine breakin expectations and "early" adopters. Perhaps we all meet at Dukes (Malibu) and have some beers one Saturday. Post up a thread and the PCH is a very pleasant drive, North or South?

eco-cruise at 66mph=ICE high MPG. A wee lil secret the CMax has :ninja:

I'd like to know too but I am ok with a button press. Yes, I am a simpleton unlike Laurel up there.... :dogwalk:
-
Good...cause the next the 600+ tank we need the photo, we trust yer but we need to verify ;) Keep it up, going great gunz there SDM  Way better than my debacle at those short miles. Isn't this a FUN game? How can anyone drive a gas engine after all this :hysterical:

Don't waste your money with Premium gas!
Jus-A-CMax replied to SnitGTS's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
You know I might tank up the next one with regular and see what MPGs I get. My route is pretty much down pat, got great stats and I pretty much have the route keyed into my foot pedal. Who's gonna pay for the tank at Costco...should be there this Thursday ;)
