I know, but still no big deal, its a 3 point turn vs 1...but I ain't too fuss unless its MFT related ;) By the way, this was one of things that I discussed with the Ford Engineers at the Irvine POW-WOW in Feb, they took note of it

As someone who does a lot of turns on the surface street, its not an issue. You're in EV, use the rear camera and turn. Dodge the bins, gates, poles and it helps to have the beeping sensors as well....wallah :)

Nice writeup...the Nav would have p*ssed me off. I've seen this now and then, never thought much of it as I knew where I was going but if this was a new area...ooops. Lets all hope 3.5.1 fixes this. Did you make the instant MPG dance..even a lil bit? As for 500, just do it Adair, you have plenty left even if the red hits zero, be a nice benchmark.... ;)

Partly Cloudy… Highs in the low to mid 40s (MPG)
Jus-A-CMax replied to Riddley's topic in Fuel Mileage
How long is your daily commute Riddley? If its short, it doesn't take much than a spurt to throw you off from mid 40s to high 30s. Hell, even I still get 38s in areas where I call the "black zones", the uphill grades wit the stop signs...but changing the route and toying with the game, I am able to get mid 40s to maybe a tad below 47 now but you pay for it with time (as usual). For sure, ambient temps play a big difference. However, this also does not mean the 80F days like we have today mean I won't get 38MPG in these black zones either  -
So I took my Maxine into Galpin Ford at 8AM this morning and they are looking and analysing her for the MFT and GPS issues. The same issues we see here with "driving" in the house, off route and recently, navigation just going "black" on me while driving. Galpin was kind enough to lend me a 2012 Focus SE loaner (thanks TomS!) in the interim and its very much appreciated :) However, driving the Focus just showed me what a QUALITY, QUALITY car the SEL CMax is. I mean seriously...I felt I had given up a stealth plane and jumped into a propeller plane there for a moment there... Engine Noise...wow, how quiet is the EV/ICE in our CMax! The Focus had the usual constant low drone. Something is not right with my Focus also, there some sort of grinding/rubbing noise so I'll let them know when I return the vehicle. Power...not sure what the Focus engine is but I think our CMax has more punch in the engine. You can also feel the gear shift in the Focus while the CMax is so unbelievably smooth, thanks to the CVT. Zero to 15, is more smooth in EV while Focus goes from 1st to 2nd and felt less power. Those battery has a lot of torque to move a heavier vehile like the CMax and it's very "understated", imo. Focus...1st gear...wait for it, 2nd gear..... Ride Quality...biggest difference here. Focus has the tire noise, much more so than the CMax. I ride with the windows down and I don't hear anything in my CMax but it's a different story with the Focus. CMax rolls much better than the Focus, but thats to be expected. Steering...no comparison, CMax steers so much better, more precise but isn't the Focus and the CMax has the same platform, yet there is a qualitive difference. Seating position. No comparison, the high seating and excellent view from the CMax wins hands down. Focus is typical of the sedan, lower to the road but it makes the CMax feel more "SUV" like. Maybe its the SE but there was some sort of low res LCD screen in the Focus that showed the gear and some other stuff. To me, this looked cheap and I mean CHEAP. Unlike the higher res LCD screens we have in our SEL CMaxs in the left and right panels with crisp graphics and text, this LCD looked like it was from some 80s coin slot game machine there for a moment - yeah, its harsh but its truly bad... If i didn't have the CMax, I would have said the Focus is a fine small size car but I rather have my stealth vehicle back, can't wait and fingers cross they drill down the cause of my MFT issue :) Also big shout out to TomS (Galpin Service Manager) for helping out with my issue. Even he acknowledge, Ford is not very forthcoming with the MFT updates. For him, the clock issue is the biggest issue out there with the MFT and I told him, "yep" we have a ton of those issues reported in our forum as well. :)

On a quest for 47 mpg average. Who wants to join me?
Jus-A-CMax replied to C-Maxgo's topic in Fuel Mileage
The Energi would easily do more than 600 miles a tank, more like 800 to 900 or even more, especially with a full range EV headstart and much bigger battery...oooh. Valkraider has more details on this. Its almost worthy that http://fordcmaxenergiforum.com/ should start some MAX RANGE club there in that forum :) -
Now you see it, now you don't
Jus-A-CMax replied to erwhitham's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
It also works on the "older" DroidX. May be it's Motorola vs Samsung here, something funky for sure. Anyone know if the S3 has any issues? -
mtb, no rush, whats the hurry? Sometimes I don't even do it, it all depends as we use our cars for work and it's a bonus if we get it. The way you should look at it, anything above 40MPG is great gunz...could be a lot worse. Enjoy the car and don't sweat it...so relax :)

Great summary dtorres! One thing I might add is that with the first steer and step on the gas pedal, you'll never want to step back into a Prius again. Better handling and better power. I cannot stop commenting on how GOOD the CMax is at cornering and such precise steering - makes this one of the most fun car to drive on a canyon road with the switchbacks, tight pin turns and the best thing, it doesn't feel top heavy due to the batteries being low. OP, just take a decent test drive of it....plain jane straight street does the CMax no justice, imo.

BigRed....nice review and update mate  PS we're not suppose to get anywhere near the 47EPA, its not possible for the "average" driver, and especially not for a new car...didn't you get the memo?!? Dude, get with the program otherwise they'll have to reclass u as a "hypermiler freakazoid"... ;)

Brilliant fotomoto :) How's the durability, does it fade, scuff easily? I like this solution a lot more...plus it matches my carbon Oakley Haf Jacket with the Red Iridium XLJ ;)

Great post Raymond :) Glad to hear you're working on your FE, it will take some time as its a whole different animal to master. Do check out the Fuel Mileage section for lots of tips and FE talk, if you haven't alread.

I HAVE FOUND THE ILLUSIVE MPG SWEET SPOT!
Jus-A-CMax replied to Generalbeluga's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
Depends on the load, the ICE High MPG will give you a good 39 to 40MPG as the bottom figure. However, whether it dances or not will depend on the road grade and the HVAC. I know when I do this travelling to Mojave where its 70MPH, I do about 68-70mph ICE High, the wifey has the HVAC on and I get around 40 MPG on the flats as well. Still, thats a lot better than the 15-20 instant MPG we typically get with no batt, ICE driving  -
Lol, seems like this thread is almost like one of those UFO Coast2Coast thread...Did I see that? Was that a UFO? Was it another secret black stealth plane? Oh noess....it's not. It's a black bird in the sky....amusing :)

Congratulations and updated. Lets see the 700 then.... :)

Manticore - you're especially welcome. Theres a story behind this: I didn't know about Hawaiian Slack Key either until my wife and I were vacationing on the Big Island on the north west side, and we came across a mall concert by John Keawe, who little did we know, is a legend in the Hawaiian Slack key. The little concert lasted about an hour and he explained the history of the Spanish cowboys who were there in Hawaii and their guitar playing and how it evolved and integrated with the essence of Hawaiian music. It's fascinating...but that was not all to the story....one day after that trip, I decided to load up my USB for our drives to Mammoth so we have some Hawaiian music to listen to...little did I know that my wife had the Masters CD Vol 2. Wow, what a find...even then, I didn't know what I had - until I drove down to Manhattan Beach for an appraisal job, cruise the beach area shooting comps and that song came on...wow, oh wow....and it was like finding a secret cocktail mix after years of drinking bad beer.....your senses go "Mate....where have u been!?!?!?". So that's jus the story... Cheers :)

I HAVE FOUND THE ILLUSIVE MPG SWEET SPOT!
Jus-A-CMax replied to Generalbeluga's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
Thanks for the update, sounds like it worked out better for you in the end. I saw your other post with the grill covers, it must be seriously bad to not have the grill covers have any effect in the colder temps. No worries. -

So whats the latest with your FFH? -
Good question. I don't know. But I do know its based on the conservative side and also your recent MPG history to determine the miles left....which is why I rely on gallons used in the tank TRIP instead at the end. Conservative because as I found out and as others, hitting red and zero miles does not mean a splutter to a stop immediately. For me, there is at least 20 to 30 miles left in the tank (assuming a flat terrain here). UPDATED Post #1 Added a little "logo" for the thread

Tinting does help somewhat but when you have a dark interior as I do, it still gets warm. I've been using the AC on and off again and like I have posted before, it will drain the main batts a lil faster than usual and naturally, your regen is not as fast either - gotta give something up for the comfort of the coolness. With that in mind, my thoughts is that going from 47MPG to 43MPG, it ain't too bad. With the extra drain and less regen in mind, using P&G helps but I suspect you're using the EV at the tail end of the glide to push the extra miles and probably draining the batts to the low point. I could be wrong but hey, I can only work with what was posted so I am making some assumptions. The better strategy is to keep the battery working on the "high side", use P&G to build up to 75% and work it down to no less than 50%, rise and repeat. Really feather the EV (1/2 or less) to maintain the speed and work this region. You will tire of it so just throw it on ICE High MPG to help with the regen but be smart with it as the downgrades, turn it off and do some P&G so you save the gas. Thats the way I play so it may or may not work for you and your CMax. Use AC and enjoy the trip, no sense in sweating for a few bucks of gas. Can't fight physics nor mother nature. Hope this helps :)
