  1. We used to get those scheduled maintenance/crashes all the time when we first got our SEL in the Fall of 2012. After the first servicing it was good for ages. Now we have the icon off the route more than not. Will be interesting to see if our dealership fixes this on Monday when I have TIP booked. I booked a loaner as I got the usual "the recalls will only take less than 1/2 a day" and then when I mentioned the off route icon, I got "well maybe we will need it for the day". Last time it was 2 days for a basic servicing. I asked for a Flex loaner again as I loved the Flex loaner I had last time. And I will get a chance to check out the Lincoln MKC which is on hubby's list.
  2. My husband really wants more technology such as adaptive cruise control, crash warning, lane departure etc. I can't really fight him on it as we are both in our mid 60's and those features are more important as you age. I know when we had our Lexus SUV the crash warning (not sure of the proper name) saved our lives on the LA Freeway when we were on holidays traveling at 80 mph (just keeping up with the slower traffic LOL) . It felt like God had intervened when the brakes came on automatically and thrush us forward in our seats, but that kept us from going under a big flat bed truck that had just swerved into our lane. We may keep the C-Max as a second car if we do the trade as it is hard to swallow the loss we will take. We paid $34,000 in the Fall of 2012. Hubby is aghast at prices of SUV's with all the features--so who knows what we will do. Maybe do nothing and use the money for a Tahitian holiday??
  3. I guess the C-Max is worth more in the States than in Canada. We are thinking of trading in our 2013 SEL with 12,000 miles on it, and this is what our BCAA Black Book comes up with, and we find the Black book is generally pretty optimistic compared to what dealers offer. Depending on your vehicle's condition, the value may be appraised higher or lower than the prices shown. Based on the kilometers you have entered, your vehicle would fall above the Average Trade-In price shown. Vehicle : 2013 Ford CMax SEL Hybrid 5D Hatchback Options : Navigation System , Panorama Roof Average Trade-In † : $15,650 Average Retail : $18,200 † Less reconditioning costs
  4. shinytop I tried the Sirius Love channel and I thought it was very nice. I'm going to try HPRifleman's selections next. Classic Rewind sounds good. I will be very curious to learn what Hair Nation is all about.
  5. The whole metric issue can be head spinning. We have liters on the gas pumps and litres in the newspaper. Some people pronounce it kill -om-iter and some say kill -o-meter, some say shed-u-ule and others say sked -u-ule. Some say they weigh 10 stones and other say they weigh 67 kilos and others say 155 lbs. No wonder people get confused eh?
  6. Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and the other 49 Commonwealth countries in the world use the Imperial Gallon. We are metric here in Canada as well. I think that the USA is the only industrialized country in the world not to use metric. The USA was mandated to change to metric back in the 1800's, but the cost of the conversion was deemed too expensive. Also we measure distance traveled by car in kilometers and speed kilometers per hour. So when we are home we pay $1.44 per liter for gas and we can travel 4 kilometers from our house with a speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour as we approach the border. Then in Blaine, Washington(less than 2 miles from our house) the speed limit is 35 miles per hour, gas is about $3.80 a US gallon and it takes us 20 minutes to go 15 miles to get to Costco. We are pretty adept at converting to US speed limits and US gallons compared to our system.
  7. Since we are generalizing and coming up with theories on musical tastes, I think that people who record their own music don't try knew things and don't think outside the box LOL. I can say this as I live with a man who loves his canned music. My husband records all his favourites to have on his various Apple devices, and he is a very concrete thinking type. Me I love hearing new artists and finding new favourites. I will play someone new for him and he will think about it and listen a few times and then it might go onto his beloved play list. I think you cannot analyze music tastes--too much left and right brain influence. My favourite listening device is an Ipod loaded with alternative music that I bought at a police auction. It has 5000 songs and all are Indie artists. It is the most amazing music and the poor fellow that lost it must still be grieving. The beauty of Sirius radio is that you can skip through so many options and find something to find your mood of the moment.
  8. Our gas prices haven't bounced around too much in the last year. $1.34 to $1.44 per liter--translated that is $5.36-5.76 per imperial gallon. Prices go up to the $1.44 per liter every long weekend.
  9. Well we live in western Canada and it gets very tedious to listen to recorded music only on long trips. It is nice to have Sirius radio through the mountains and up country where radio reception is sketchy at best. I like Sirius to listen to the news and hear some discussion of current events and weather especially when driving on my own up country. We don't get things like Pandora. Same as we don't get traffic reports on Sirius, we don't get lots of the things on Sync like the vehicle health report. Not complaining at all as I love the slower pace of life compared to the US. I honestly don't find the sound on Sirius any different than hooking up the Ipod or playing CD's. Our sound system is excellent in the C-Max.
  10. Willie's Roadhouse. If I am blue or feeling discouraged, I crank it up and sing loudly and cry. Perfect to get the emotions out LOL. I like Bridge too, but have not heard of Love--I'll look for it. I love my Sirius. I bought the lifetime recently and supposedly I can transfer it 3 times if necessary. I did renew my 6 month several times, and got real deals by following internet advice i.e. Sirius tells you it will be $110 for six months and you respond that you can't afford that and will have to cancel. Then they offer something like $30 for six months. If push comes to shove and they don't offer a deal, let them cancel and they will be calling you with a deal or you can call back in an hour and get another agent who likely will give you a deal. Worked like a charm for us. We kept getting low 6 month renewals.
  11. When we travel down to Cannon Beach in Oregon, my husband has a non stop patter directed toward me concerning me allowing all the Prius's to pass us. I go the speed limit but they go flying by so they the endurance --just not the pep off the starting line. I do think they are a lot like the old Volkswagen bugs.
  12. You made me laugh Adrian! I only wear my glasses for reading, but obviously need them at other times too. LOL
  13. We drove the Prius V for several hours as the dealer gave it to us overnight. It was a good car from our perspective--biggest weakness compared to the C-Max was lack of power going onto freeways and the Plain Jane interior. But we both thought it was a good basic hybrid and came close to buying it. Doctor this is why I have walked up to the V thinking it was my car TIP. http://inhabitat.com/toyota-prius-pulls-into-third-place-in-worldwide-auto-sales/ http://imganuncios.mitula.net/2013_ford_c_max_hybrid_se_ice_storm_metallic_in_frankfort_illinois_98475049073762373.jpg
  14. We drove all the Prius models before buying our C-Max. We found the Prius' to be very utilitarian in design. Much like a Volkswagen bug. We did like the Prius V the best of the Prius's that we tried. Indeed it seemed quite a bit roomier than the C-Max --more like a Van than a car. Our Toyota sales person was outstanding--low key and helpful and volunteered to let us keep the V overnight. Hubby actually strongly considered the V and it was me that voted on buying the C-Max. During the buying phase we had a very informed sales woman and she probably was the reason we ordered our C-Max. By the time our C-Max arrived, she had jumped ship and gone to a different company. So frustrations with Ford began. I still view the Prius as a little work horse--kind of plain with no real guts, but a car that will be around for a long--sort of the little engine that could. The C-Max has lots of pep and elegance, but it has not appealed to the hybrid fans in our neck of the woods. Not sure why other than that utilitarian style is sort of like wearing a badge indicating that the driver is willing to sacrifice to save fuel?? I guess it is nearly 2 years since we bought our C-Max and I have only seen 2 or 3 in the wild in that time, and have only had maybe 2 people ask about the car. I do note that our Ice Storm SEL with the panorama roof looks almost identical to the Prius V that comes in a similar colour. I have mistakenly gone up to one of those Prius V's thinking it was my car. So probably no one voices interest in the C-Max s they think it is a Prius V.
  15. Is the noise the air conditioning? Our AC is horrifically noisy, and I often turn it off as I start up as it seems particularly noisy starting off.
  16. dmk2000 is your wife really okay with your advice concerning getting extra mileage? I have been married 46 years and it is like waving a red flag at me when my husband "suggests" how I drive our C-Max to get better mileage LOL.
  17. Very disappointing to think of the future value. Good car with a game plan gone awry.
  18. A few months ago at our dealership, I over heard talk of the C-Max being discontinued when I had TIP in for servicing.
  19. Check your FOBs too and make sure they have the emergency keys inside. Ours were missing when we got our car, and had to be ordered.
  20. Read the old thread entitled "A5 nav card now available". The thread discusses the fact that the A5 is just a map update.
  21. Sammy I would say no to the C-Max in a very snowy region. The car is too low and it is very easy to get wedged on the snow. I find the the C-Max too low to go visit friends when I have to go off the main roads to their ranch. i.e. big ruts and you will be scraping bottom, and we can't visit in the winter with the C-Max due to drifting snow that we can't get through. It does drive well on plowed roads and has good traction--it is just not so good if the road isn't plowed well or has drifted. However for city roads it is great. I am a long time fan of the Subaru for getting around in the snow.
  22. We have A5 and still adjust nav. volume with the volume knob, and by going into the settings. I think it was May when we last went in for all the upgrades.
  23. Kelley I will put it on the list for when we go in. I hate going in so I wasn't the right person to buy a C-Max with all of these re-calls etc. We are due to go back in September which is soon. Our dealership isn't one like Jus' which is great with hybrids. Ours is great with pickups.
  24. I too was in L once by mistake and the sound was such that I thought a catastrophic event was about to happen LOL.
