  1. Wab I did better than you at getting to the DFW Airport. I was out grocery shopping this morning and decided to try verbal commands to get from here (Vancouver, B.C) to the DFW Airport. So I tried navigation, destination, POI, by name. I asked for city Dallas and then for Dallas Fort Worth Airport. Got a nifty little list saying 1) DFW Airport Car Rental Facility 2837 kilometers 2) Grand Hyatt DFW Airport meeting space 2838 kilometers 3) Grand Hyatt-DFW Airport Terminal D 2838 kilometers 4)Quinta Inn and Suites DFW Air port South 2816 kilometers. We had a flukey snow storm and have about 14 inches on the ground so I was sorely tempted to say "line 3" and hit the road. LOL
  2. Don't settle. You want a ruby red car. If that is your heart's desire, you won't like a black one. Plus just think how much less any of us who have 2013's would get for our cars if we traded in. Much better to wait for your special order unless you get $5000 or so knocked off the price--it has to be worth it to you to settle for less than you wanted.
  3. Actually we have experienced two fairly consistent problem areas with voice commands. The first one is using "nearby". It rarely works to use that word instead of city. The other is choosing poi categories. I don't think we have ever had much luck with categories. Ours works super well with giving the city and the address. But it seems to me it comes unglued with the category list. Recently I tried an out of town hospital and it would not come up under category, but when I used "by name" instead it came up just fine. So choosing "poi by category" is off my list. The system can work beautifully or it can make you start to thump your head on the steering wheel.

  5. Hubby and I have been up since 4 AM watching the gold medal hockey game. Canada won 3 to 0 against Sweden. Now we will watch the closing ceremonies coming up. Olympic Games have been super. Love the Dr. Zhivago costumes worn by the Russian women who assist in the medal presentations. All the athletes from around the world did a stellar job! PS I just woke up two different elderly neighbours due to me being buzzed on drinking coffee and cheering for hockey since 4 AM. We had a big dump of snow and I thought I would go out and shovel the two 80 year old neighbours walk ways forgetting how early it was. I scared them both. In my mind it felt like noon LOL.
  6. This will take you to the instruction videos for the C-Max https://owner.ford.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Owner/Page/OwnerVideoPage&year=2013&make=Ford&model=C-MAX+Hybrid There is a video on the instrument cluster.
  7. You can set different things to come up in the leaves compartment/window. I don't have my leaves showing anymore as I hate to lose any. I have navigation in that compartment now. What do you see in the window/compartment?
  8. Well said Tdefny. Great car, but the support system just is not there.
  9. Jus I am somewhat optimistic Ford is reading here, and they will take note of problems. They must know about these issues for pete's sake. We have had this from day one. Enter 3 or 4 items out on a drive and all is well, and then if you enter 10 or so over the space of half an hour the brain of the computer is fried. Interesting too was another incident with the fried system, I walked behind Tip swinging a shopping bag and the hatch went up as though I had swung my foot under the bumper. Freaky eh? I just came back from running around and all seems fine now, but I did not ask a lot of the system on this trip.
  10. Rebecca I am gun shy with involving you. If we had battery failures or major mechanical issues, I would. But for our complaints we would be branded whiners.
  11. It sure gets annoying if we use MFT and voice commands on a longer trip as it seems with repeated and frequent use the whole system gets fried and does not respond to even the basic commands. Our system seems to work perfectly until we make heavy use of it on a trip. Very frustrating to have reliance on a system that falls apart. We went into the city last night and really needed to count on it and it stopped recognizing basic commands. And no I won't be taking it to the dealer as those encounters have been less than happy. I am hoping the system will do its usual going back to normal after it sits in the garage overnight. What a damned pain! We do love our C-Max, but these sorts of things make us want to trade it in. G-r-r-r-r!
  12. Sirius sounds good in our car. I like it because you have it when you are in areas where radio cannot be received. However, I haven't bought the lifetime subscription yet do to technical difficulties signing onto the sirius site. It seems that it can't be done on the phone and my sign in online is not working. Having a hell of time getting it straightened out as all my online operators speak French as a first language and the communication over technical issues is not so good thus far. I will try again today.
  13. Sorry you're having trouble when you are on the road Jus. I tried scanning through old posts on the subject. Doesn't appear that your car will be in big trouble if you keep going and head home. Fingers crossed!
  14. That is excellent Ponypower! Red is a great colour for the C-Max. Keep us updated and have fun.
  15. Smiling Jack thanks for replying. It is transferrable for $75 up to three times if we change cars. Not sure about it being transferrable to a new owner though. I would expect we would buy another new car in a year or two. And that might be it as we are both 65 yrs old. But who knows what God will hand us eh?
  16. Nicely written report ScubaDadMiami. Very balanced and fair and honest sounding.
  17. I just got an email from Sirius XM Canada offering a life time subscription for $549.00 plus tax. What do you all think? Too costly or a good enough deal? I do love my Sirius radio.
  18. We try not to focus on mileage at all as it seems we have different cars than our American counterparts when we read mileage issues. Yes it sounds like your winter has been heavy duty. We have a woman friend in Okotoks who has a small acreage with one senior horse, and she has had a rough winter trying to keep ahead of the drifting snow getting out to the horse. They have had it rough around her what with the floods in High River last year. She is trying to out live the horse and move back to BC when he passes on (he's too old to transport she says).
  19. CalgaryCMax I think your mileage is on par with what Canadian reviewers have achieved in colder climate cities in Canada. We get about 5.9 L this winter as it is mild, last winter 6.4 L. Summer mileage is heart stoppingly poor if you use air conditioning set at about 20 C. Car does not get good mileage if you use it for short hops as we do as the engine never warms up before you are at your destination. Nice little car with fun technology, but if you expect window sticker mileage you will be very frustrated. Yes in the southern States you can get it, but not in Canada unless it is a perfect Spring day and you are going downhill. PS I traded in my beloved Smart Car named Pickle (she was a green convertible) for my C-Max. I loved that little car and miss it and wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. Perfect for city driving--not so much for road trips.
  20. When my husband read the article to me this morning, it did remind of a couple of C-Max incidents reported here early on in the forum. People were getting a message to pull over now and had lost all power and had the crap scared out of them because of it. We never did hear what the outcomes were on our incidents that I can recall. This is one of the incidents from SeattleRain in November 2012. They were several others that sounded more serious as they happened on a freeway I think. Posted 27 November 2012 - 03:34 PM One time while driving the car lost power, and said to pull the car over immediately in a safe place. Luckily we had a place to pull out close since we had no power. The yellow wrench came on and stayed on for a day. It was late Saturday afternoon and the dealership was closed, so I decided to turn the car 'off', wait a minute and turned it back on. After turning it back on, the car ran / worked fine. I am going to schedule to have it looked at by the shop hopefully this week. So these incidents may be similar to the Prius software issues??? It is fun to have all the technology in our C-Maxes but it is scary too as the malfunctions can be pretty serious it seems.
  21. Why not wait for another year and make sure all the problems have been resolved? Our C-Max SEL is a November 2013 build and we have had no problems really. But in your shoes, I would hold out for another year just to make sure all the new build issues are fixed. But if you go ahead with the purchase go for the new one is my two cents.
  22. Fotomoto I thought you were hard at landscaping again--glad it was your former project as it is way too chilly here to dirt into the earth yet. You should post the photo of the finished garden bed as it was so nice, and it will give us all gardening fever.
  23. What a nice thread! Thanks for posting the photos.
