  1. We have one of the first year SEL's with MFT. The answer is to turn sound off or you will be driven crazy. We can adjust it (briefly with the audio knob) and briefly by going into settings. Master re-set fixes things briefly too. Then it is back to shouting the next time you turn your car off LOL. So we keep it turned off unless we are in unfamiliar territory.
  2. There is no light on the console to indicate which gear you are in--this is very old technology and a huge oversight in my opinion. Yes, obviously I do turn the wheel to look to confirm which gear I am in i.e. low or drive in particular--however it is not always the handiest thing to have to turn the wheel to take a boo at which gear I'm in. Hopefully the engineers will fix this issue. Yes, I have come to a complete stop when the clunk occurs. I use DHA the same as you do and no clunks and lurches until recently--so something is amiss. Hubby chalks it up to first year design glitches.
  3. I need the shifter lit up like on most cars so I can readily see it and not have to search for it. The lurch and clunk has been occurring after descending steep grades when I have to come to a stop sign and disengage the HDA. It has made me stop using it on steep grades downhill now. It's pretty disconcerting as it is a big clunk.
  4. We have had to pay for a loaner from day one and we have extended warranty--we do get a $20 a day rate which isn't so bad. I agree the gear shift indicator system is bad and dangerous in my opinion. I hate not having it marked and having to peak behind and turn the steering wheel to see which gear it is in. Good luck with your problem. I notice of late when using hill descent that we get a big lurch and clunk when I take it out of hill descent so that is worrisome. I have it on the list for when the car goes in for maintenance.
  5. IGregor unfortunately it has to be "Navigation my home". No variations work in my experience.
  6. I have to google giant Helmicken Falls! Sounds worthy of another road trip--this time I will take hubby and the wee dog. I just looked at all the photos and it is a must see.
  7. Nick you do have to put Sun Peaks on your list for sure. Tell Nancy that Ray and I planted two limelight hydrangeas at the new house tonight. He was shaking his head when I pulled in from my trip and had two limelights standards stuffed in the back of the C-Max (having had to rearrange all my luggage and stuff from the trip to fit them in). I passed a nursery with a big sign and the limelights sitting out front and Tip came to a screeching halt and wouldn't move until I bought shrubs. LOL Oh my are they ever pretty.
  8. I just got home and feel very overwhelmed by my trip back on the Coq. I saw one example of road rage happening in the Merritt area with one guy pulling a trailer and the other in a Lexus car. They played their games at high speed--well over 130. Then traffic got fairly heavy and on one long grade going downhill I was surrounded by traffic all going very fast and I felt that I had to keep up or I would cause an accident at that point. I was gripping the wheel and when I looked at the dash I was doing 140 K and felt sick to my stomach as I was still being passed by the majority. Once the maniacs got by I slowed it down to 110 K and never went above that again. On my 4 hours trip up and back, I did not see one police car. Many of my friends are like you Bruce they love terrain around Kamloops. I took a good long look today and I have to say it has a real charm.
  9. I think it is so much prettier than the Whistler countryside. It kept going through my mind, "why didn't they have the winter Olympics here?" I was so shocked to find it so beautiful as I have passed through Kamloops many times and find it a bit bleak and too desert like for me. So to discover such beauty so close to Kamloops blew me away. One thing that was disconcerting around Kamloops freeways was all the big semi trucks lugging it slowly up the grades and other drivers running up my ass when I got locked behind the big rigs as the traffic in the fast lane was too busy to move over. I felt a bit scared at times. Those new speed limits are crazy in my opinion. On the way up, I was doing 120 k and I was being left in the dust by most so they must have doing 140 and better.
  10. Hey Bruce, Tip found Heffley Lake with only one little glitch when we turned off the Yellowhead Hwy. I was told to make a u turn as it didn't seem to recognize the road to Sun Peaks. Wow, wow, wow is it ever beautiful at Sun Peaks. I thought I had arrived in Switzerland. It was stunningly gorgeous. I rode up the chair lift and had a few butterflies in my stomach heading up that mountain with the bar holding me in. The Todd Mountain Thoroughbred Farm was spectacular--rolling hills with mares and babies out. I am so glad I took the trip. I will be back next year.
  11. Thanks Bruce! I am looking forward to some time on my own. We just sold our townhouse and bought a house, and the move was chaotic. Hubby is happy to stay home with the dog and veg out in front of the big screen. Normally Tinker, the dog, would go with me but she is aging and on day 2 in our new house she ran away when I was letting her out for a pee a 5 in the morning. I was barefoot and in my pj's and she bolted toward the US border and I couldn't catch her. Had to get a search party to find her. So taking her to Heffley Lake might totally discombobulate her again. I hope for high temperatures as I need that to motivate me to jump into the cold lake. I assume Heffley Lake is likely to be pretty cold since it is a trout fishing lake. I can hardly wait to hit the road tomorrow.
  12. Every time we go into the States to shop (we are 4 kilometers from the border) voice commands for points of interest works like magic. Today we were down in Bellingham and I could get the system to recognize everywhere I wanted to go i.e. Costco, Lowe's, Bed Bath and Beyond, Edaleen Dairy etc. etc. At home it is a different story and I wind up screaming in frustration as the system recognizes maybe a half of what I input. So I conclude that TIP is American and not Canadian LOL. I know the real reason is that all the maps obviously are US focused but it sure is frustrating to buy in Canada and drive in Canada and have this situation. Tomorrow I am headed up to Heffley Lake north of Kamloops (about 400 kilometers from home) and TIP better not get me lost as I am driving on my own to a cabin to read and meditate.
  13. I've often wondered where you got to Scooter, and I was shocked to read the heading on your thread. You rascal! Congratulations and don't be a stranger here.

    Interior Color

We have Ice Storm with Stone interior. I say it looks grey and hubby says it looks taupe. It does not look like tan at all to us. We had a tan leather interior in a Lexus and this colour is really not tan at all. But I guess hubby is more apt in his description calling it taupe. You would think we all have on different glasses eh? LOL I like the Stone leather but it does show the dirt easily so keep that in mind. And don't wear blue jeans that are dark wash on a long trip or it stains.
  15. Snakebitten, I am so sorry to read about the death of your beloved wife. The loss must be so difficult for you. You write beautifully. Maybe you are an author? Laurel
  16. My new C-Max thread by Hero161 contains this which may be related: They found the leak to be a result of two bolts loose on the the back cargo frame where the back hatch closes. This allowed water to run down and into the interior cabin. These two bolts are in vertical alignment and visible on the right side of the hatch frame when the back hatch is opened. It took our service tech at Bates Ford of Lebanon, TN two days of seaching for the leak. He removed most of the interior and ran water all over the rear windows and back half of our C-Max. There was a celebration in the shop when he finally found the leak. They told me early on this tech was one of the best on interiors in this area and we are lucky to have him on our C-Max. It rained today and I took a long ride just to be sure everything is ok. (Hated getting my lil Red Wagon wet). Case solved but you can bet I will watch for a long while. By the way I'm getting over 41 mpg with a little over 100 total miles. Edited by Hero161, 10 February 2013 - 09:06 PM.
  17. I remember reading long ago on the forum about someone with leak problems related to the hatch, and there was some discussion about those little plastic plugs somewhere on the hatch frame. Some people had the plugs and some didn't and were wandering if they were needed or if they should come out to allow drainage. Sorry I am not good at having suggest at searching on this forum or I would try to find it. Hopefully someone else will remember.
  18. It made me laugh Marc. Love the family on Modern Family that drives the Prius. That is a stereotype too, but I think that show has helped many people gain some tolerance/understanding.
  19. Ashley I think that Ford needs to "just read" the forums. In a perfect world, we would let you know our personal info. and all the outlandish things that have happened at our dealerships, but in real life we still have to go in there for service for our cars. I am not prepared to be labelled as that is exactly what would happen, and then heavens knows how we would be treated? Now we have indifference and ignorance about the hybrid. I couldn't face that plus hostility. I am getting more assertive in my old age and have started throwing hissy fits when they cross the line now, but that shouldn't happen to customers.
  20. Adrian we live in the lower mainland. Same experience as you. It is very sad that the sales people are so poorly informed. In our experience this lack of information extends throughout the whole dealership. Hate to say that as we have a good car, but it certainly has coloured our experience with Ford. I honestly can't believe that they are allowed to sell hybrids. That is why I think Ford should have dealerships specializing in the hybrids only. You wouldn't believe some of the things we have heard at the dealership.
  21. Adair things tend to go a wee bit slower here in Canada LOL. But I will get in there after our move--thanks.
  22. We just got a letter for this re-call, and I am not sure if you all have discussed this one? "A software concern may cause a delay in the deployment of the safety canopy in certain roll-over circumstances, potentially increasing risk of injury". "The time need is less than 1/2 day, but the dealership may need to keep it longer. Call your dealer without delay and request recall 14S04." We just sold our house and we move in less than 14 days so I hope to delay this for a month. I will try my best to avoid any roll-over type scenarios in the mean time.
  23. What an ambassador for the C-Max! Ford should send you a nice gift Dave.
  24. That is very true! Hubby did a test drive in a Acura MDX. We whacked our heads getting into it and holy Hannah was the visibility ever poor compared to TIP. The Acura was scratched from his list.
