Strange, long wooooo sound at steady speeds, ICE on
C-MaxSea replied to Alex Sams's topic in 2013 Ford C-MAX Hybrid
Or was it just the Whos Wooooing down in Whoville ? ;) -
Excellent A2gemini ! Isn't it a cool rush to get those numbers. I was 'stuck' on city arterials today (instead of the freeway), 36 miles round trip and 58 MPG. This car is truly amazing. Every time I think we have 'topped out', the numbers just keep going up. Nick (((Sorry Jus, those toaster review drivers are no where to be found on these threads. Time to start a rip, burn & smoke'em thread for those dudes.)))

Trust you were smiling Liz :). I noticed a few years back when I checked our house in street view, that Google got a shot of me halfway inside our VW bus - a back side sort of view. I was glad when they updated it and made me disappear. Nick PS I snooped ! :congrats: on your new personal best on Fuelly - 48.2 MPG. Looks like you have had a stellar summer in that regard, big kudos !!!

$90k Mercedes S500 Hybrid guilt-trips drivers into better mpg's
C-MaxSea replied to kostby's topic in Lounge: Off-Topic
7000 5000 lbs, $100 k, for a dumbed down (and systemed up) hybrid monstrosity - BRILLIANT ! Time to just put wheels under the house and drive from bed ! Nein danke; so glad to have all of those cues helpful for intelligent driving built into the dash of our C-Maxes, resulting in a svelt 3500 lb luxo stealth MPG machine. -
Nice to see 'into the future' somewhat by simply gazing across the pond ! Creature comforts in the back, better headlamps, sleeker fogs, and thankfully losing the buckteeth in the front (our poor hood alignment). Looks very good to me - they seem to be addressing key elements. Hope these improvements filter in to our 2016,17,18 versions. (wishful thinking?) I noticed that at least some of those trim levels above come with power front seats - plural. Vive le C-Max !!! Nick (perfectly happy with what we have now though)

All Hybrid apples Adrian, Energi oranges not allowed on that list. :)

Mostly yes & a little no. Letting the car select it's mode (the above argument) gets you say 80-90%+- efficiency - best for most drivers. We prefer the middle ground, letting the car do it's thing selecting the mode, ECO Cruising ...................., but the car does not know the road ahead (presumably), which is where the driver can optimize - use up some EV for example, because an ICE load obligation / battery charge opportunity is approaching ................ (((There are reasons why Jus & many others get significantly better than the OP notes - it is all about appreciating PE & KE (potential energy & kinetic energy), and optimizing the car's potential - to get the 'icing on the cake' that is; but not required to get the good numbers the OP suggests.))) Nevertheless, generally agree, just my 2 cents (mostly highway/freeway bound), Nick

Shout Out to Yello !!! :victory: :victory: :victory: Congrats for really knocking it out of the park. http://www.fuelly.com/car/ford/c-max/2013/YELLO/262564 7 out of last 8 tanks over 600 miles ! 48.5 lifetime MPG ! You must be in California - OOPS, wrong, sunny Maryland. Kudos for not 'reading the memo' about 37 MPG, and buying your 2013 C-Max last January.

Nvstig8tr, this post may be of interest to you. Is Ford offering 'extended warranties' on 'certified pre-owned' 2013 vehicles, or is it a dealer add-on ??? http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/4322-extended-warranties/?do=findComment&comment=49558
-
I don't know the particulars, but this looks like a back door to an 'extended warranty'. This dealer has 5 'Certified Pre-owned' 2013 C-Max SELs; each with this 'extended warranty' feature - one with about 12k, and four with 25-30 k miles. (Dealer 'add-on' or from Ford ???) These are either lease returns, former rentals, or trade-ins, and may even be brought in from other dealers. I believe that this dealer sells quite a few C-Maxes, but not at a discount. The last used one I saw there was 25-26k for an SEL. They feature E vehicles and had 16 2014 C-Max Hybrids or Energys (rough lot count). Regardless the year or newness, all buyers should consider leveraging their buying position to negotiate the best EW they can at the lowest price possible. (and remember, as P3G noted so well above, they are primarily for peace of mind, and not intended to 'pay for themselves' in repairs (and rarely do, but you never know).

Piece of cake, Eve. You have already shown the mojo. It is as simple as using gas when you need, and not using gas when it is not needed. (PE, KE, ....................) Cheers, luck, and if not now, certainly someday, Nick

Decided to go cheap with the Zeta product linked by KAL above (post #9), and so far quite pleased. It seems to be very appropriate for the C-Max bumper, especially since the three protector ribs align horizontally like the black plastic ribs below the bumper when the hatch is closed. Alignment & install was reasonably simple for one person. I noted that the pattern is not exactly centered on the piece, so I chose to align with the pattern and not with the overall dimension - that way it looks better related to the centering cues of the latch & sensor button below. I also chose to install as far out as I dared in order to see all three of the pattern ribs when the hatch is closed. I added a couple small additional pieces of ds tape to each end, to make sure the end did not float. My install was as follows: 1. find the preferred location and mark the edge with tape (I chose five locations) 2. add small ds tape end pieces (optional) 3. Remove the tape covers from the four added pieces at the end, and start the peel of the red factory tape covers 4. Set the protector carefully down allowing the center to touch & align (& slide if necessary), continuing down and aligning the two ends and setting 5. Peel the front factory tape strip out to the front, peel the back factory tape strip out to the back and firmly press all into full set The first four pics below are staged for the install notes above with fake red pull tabs & a couple of the end ds tapes marked above while actuals are below, of course. Looking good Brother Mike. I definitely like the white, black, red color combo top to toe. Like the pillar treatment, the red accents really nail it, not sure about the fender stripes overall - just me. Be careful though, one more racing stripe (zooooom) and you may be permanently relegated to the thirties MPG. ;) Euro headlights next I hope. (((You may want to be the first in line for some performance tuning :superhero: :superhero: :superhero: ))) Nick

Excellent Thomas, they look good. N.

Finish line in sight - Cheers almost Hannah ! ('Gun it' ? - that is reserved for the CR drivers, they get bonuses for that - gun, brake hard, gun, brake hard, gun, brake hard - anything to thwart the evil little Ford machine - ah hahahahaha ! (although we are entitled to enjoy those 188 ponies anytime we want, yust for fun, and at a moments notice :superhero: ))

+1, +1, DrDiesel1 & Kelleytoons ! Those old antiquated noisy ICE gassers are of very little interest to me anymore.

Lazy way out. Don't plan to ever wax a car again. Happy with Opticoat & clear bra. http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/1295-opti-coat-any-one-try-yet/ or one of these:

"300 mile trip and easily obtained 45+ mpg!" rock on A2gemini ! Great start. There are some very good threads on here about a hitch or two. Someone will jump in here on that I'm sure. Enjoy the new ride!!! Nick

Even if fuel prices are falling, Feathers are Free !!! and they will reward you with forties & fifties forever !!! Nick (Keep on feathering, fellow forum flyers; not a forum flyer, test drive a C-Max and find out what all this fine fun feathering is all about – Jus saying!) ((not to mention, Fangs come Free as well, with every forty feathers !))

Best Highway Cruising Speed for MPG's
C-MaxSea replied to stratosurfer's topic in 2013 Ford C-MAX Hybrid
Totally agree, and we are on the extremely lazy side of that equation; if the traffic is moving, we are on ECO Cruise within a mile of the on-ramp fang. ;) Hey Jus, when are you going to show us that run of 18 - 800 mile tanks? or was that 23 - 800 mile tanks? Real, every day urban/suburban 60 MPG dragon slaying !!! Am I going to have to 'shout you out' !!! (not here, but somewhere in the 'city' driving threads) Pretty please. Nick -
Yes, indeedy, ours is only about 6 or 7' away.

Best Highway Cruising Speed for MPG's
C-MaxSea replied to stratosurfer's topic in 2013 Ford C-MAX Hybrid
Agree, and to be sure clear is clear, SDM, I think you are stating that manual mode (driver control without ECO Cruise) is too much work, therefore stick with ECO Cruise - exactly what I have been saying, and encouraging folks to do, in order to pull themselves up into the 40s, or mid & upper 40s if they want, conditions permitting, by tempering their speed. ((( and as you say "flying manually" without ECO Cruise 'would be better'; but I doubt I could 'beat the machine' anyway, even if I tried. Bottom line, we want nothing to do with the headache of micromanaging the terrain with manual methods (we are way too lazy), other than a cruise control toggle tweak now and then (which may or may not be helping us a bit)))) -
Best Highway Cruising Speed for MPG's
C-MaxSea replied to stratosurfer's topic in 2013 Ford C-MAX Hybrid
Paul, trip was mostly 60-68 mph freeways, description in notes 22 & 24 above, and #s 4 & 6 below. Summer driving. Note 22 above is the crux - repeatable route to 48MPG highway, any day of the week now - 5 miles to freeway 38-42, then a steady climb to 45-50 gauge (43-48 pump) subject to time of year. http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/4207-shout-out-mpgs/?do=findComment&comment=48651
