  1. The 'Tom & Ray' take - FWIW. http://www.cartalk.com/blogs/tom-ray/counting-mileage-case-prius-syndrome I don't trust either pump or gauge sometimes. ;) ('Rounding errors' insignificant when one shows 11.4x and the other shows 12.2x - What's a good OCD type to do - average the two? ;) ;) ;) ) (Our lemon got 54 mpgs on Thursday over 113 miles - or was that only 52 mpgs?) No worries, at less than 8 cents/mile, we :wub2: our Full Featured Lemon !!! :redcard: :judge: Your out of order here :finger: , back to best RPMs please.
  2. You are right guys, some foul ups there (42.5 per Foto confirmed). One problem I would note is that they have cut out a large portion of drivers by averaging highway speeds of 65 mph - they need to test at higher speeds, and somehow include 'Freeway/Expressway' on the top, in order to incorporate those drivers (the 65 - 75mph crowd). (Just like most testing, 50 years behind the fast lane.) ;) ;) ;) Their oversimplified system probably works for our driving because we have temperate weather and stay at or under 65 mph. Great start, great potential though - if they let the speeders in (& account for weather, trip length............). :) Nick
  3. Bingo ! IntelliChoice 46.3 on the personalized scale, Fuelly 46.3. They are doing something right - big kudos! (seems too simple to work for everyone - needs a weather / temperature slider as well? Guessing their "Air Conditioning" slider is their way of incorporating the weather factor - if so, should it be labeled "Air Conditioning or Heater" perhaps?)
  4. Is this the place to celebrate ? Someone's got to do it.   Nick

  7. A big :hat_tip: on those miles and MPG's SnowStorm ! Oh, and number 6 works great for me also, especially with a tail wind. :secret: Having fun, Nick
  8. Welcome Melinda ! Jus's advice is golden - have fun and be patient. Yes take it easy on the brakes and you will see the brake scores reflect good 'MPG braking' (storing energy in the hybrid battery). Acceleration is a bit more challenging, a little bit of EV followed by a more aggressive ICE burst, then tracking at speed limits with as little use of gas as possible. That is a crude overview, but Jus's posts and others will be helpful as you get past your 'just have fun' break-in phase. Enjoy, Nick (PS Get rid of those leaves and put something on that screen more useful to you)
  9. Nonsense to suggest that the battery issue of some is being ignored here by me or anyone else when there is a dedicated section for battery issues and many dedicated threads; or any other issue for that matter.. Real people, real issues, real responses .....................real commiseration, real help - hopefully. I give; you win, beat the CR drum (& their questionable results) over & over & over ............ such beautiful music.
  10. One of the many reasons why we should not be echoing their results here repeatedly. This is / should be a place for real world experience, not promulgating information that is questionable, especially for introductory year vehicles, and as much based on the psychology of expectations & fanaticism as statistical survey 'science'. CR postings here have killed many sales of a very good car. Enough guys, pretty please?
  11. ............. and it clearly shows the 'whipping boy' effect. Tracked these numbers last Fall until they became too demoralizing - as the media intelligentsia & its echo chamber were whipping the C-Max. (Lots of contributing factors here of course, winter, model year end....................... but those are common to both cars. Uncommon element all Fall: Good press Fusion, bad press C-Max; good 'echo' Fusion, bad 'echo' C-Max)
  12. Nice write-up Scuba. Hope your current Nav issue is resolved quickly. Nick
  13. .......... and I worry about our ICE in our simple hybrid getting enough use to stay healthy - :headspin: silly me. Hmmm, what's better, an ICE used 50% of the time, or an ICE used 10% of the time................... yes it all depends on ...................... miles driven, space needs............................ still lusting after an umbilical cord and more svelte hybrid batteries. ;) nick
  14. :hat_tip: Smart money Foto .......................... sooooooooo worth repeating. :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:
  15. Fusion Hybrid Y-O-Y up 14% in March, C-Max Hybrid down 48% for March (good guess Nick). Fusion Hybrid 2014 totals vs 2013 down only 6%, C-Max Hybrid down 54%. Lots of negative / poor sales figures for hybrids this year vs 2013 - so far. http://www.hybridcars.com/march-2014-dashboard/ Still C-Maxing, still having fun, Nick
  16. .........it's 63.96% perception, very few buyers see beyond the headlines. Between the negative rants & flogging out there, and similar elements here, it has become a tough sell at the dealers. Very sad, in my book, that so few folks can see past our rants & flogs to the dynamic new hybrid the C-Max is ....................... a couple more months and we should have this beast butchered. I know, I know...........objective yadda, yadda, yadda (most good stuff); but it adds up (and becomes a flog), especially when we are just echoing the naysayers; and for the 25-30 people visiting this site at any minute as the go-to resource, why buy in to a "lemon". My new definition of a lemon is 'a car singled out for particular, and often unfair, ridicule'; just as we so often do in so many areas of our culture these days. Good grief, the Fusion sales are booming and it is essentially the same car - why? Yes many reasons, but I'll hang my hat on wildly desirable perceptions leading the way for the Fusion; and wildly unfair negative ones for the C-Max - the proverbial 'whipping boy'. (Edit, My mistake / never mind, the Fusion is much prettier; and more importantly, I forgot to see if the Fusion Hybrid sales are keeping pace with last year, I'm guessing they are (as opposed to the C-Max). (Talking hybrids here, not PHEVs/Energis)) Wildly upbeat on a great car with way more versatility than a Fusion, Nick
  17. Lance, Just a note to confirm that indeed Jus does rack up exceptional MPG's, and yes he is on Fuelly. Keep in mind that the "run"s you quoted are either segments of loops, or 'controlled' loops as part of a day of loops - at least that is my recollection. Jus is an expert driver in sunny California driving on some semi-ideal terrain, at relatively ideal speeds. Freeway speeds of 70 plus are not in those loops. Generally speaking, you too can achieve stellar results under those conditions. Check out Jus's driving tips and others, and combined with a little practice, you will easily achieve 50+ MPG's under good weather conditions and relatively good terrain. That is not to say anyone is going to achieve 60's or 70's over time. Similarly, 800 mile tanks are achievable, but extremely challenging - 500 & 600 mile tanks are readily achievable subject to the weather and your diving habits. Keep milking the brakes, feathering the accelerator at speed, taking full advantage of level & descending grades, and 45+, 50+ is a snap. (but never in your Winters - ;) ) Of course, 40 MPG's at 70 MPH in fair weather on the 'freeway' is fine too. Welcome, & keep enjoying your C-Max, :) Nick
  18. Way to go Bro ! Looks like a nice nifty fit. :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: Nick
  19. I would assume so too, Laurel; it is certainly one of my favorite sporting events of the year. Really enjoyed watching Watson's remarkable play, thought he was letting it slip away on Saturday, but played masterly again on Sunday, doubly tough to do 'from the lead'. Love the leftys - Weir, Mick., Watson ........
  20. Wow Laurel, that sounds like a terrific trip you have planned. We have come close a couple times to venturing out to one of those Islands - Galiano and/or Salt Spring. Right now we are entering a busier time for work, such as it is - we will see about any side trips, very tempting. It has been a long time since we were on a BC Ferry - watch your Nav icon go swimming when you do. Enjoy the orcas & eagles & ................................... Nick & Karin
  21. "Hello Tip", "Well hello Grouper" "Howdy Laurel", "Hello there Nick, What are you two doing here?" "Just stopped by to say hello & talk C-Maxes ........................." Thanks for your hospitality Laurel, so nice to meet! Nick

  23. Precisely! Name your price folks - drive some bargains for the 2013's (& the 2014's for that matter).
  24. Welcome & congrats Allegria24 ! Our first 'domestic' as well; let's see: Renault, VW's, Audi, Volvos, BMW - and now still-thrilled C-Maxers. Nick
  25. Welcome Kostby, and congrats on the new C-Max !!! Many of your reasons for buying are the same here, and we are still thrilled with the ride & features. It is a very different car than the antiquated gas guzzlers still being sold - thankfully so. Glad you got a great deal. Make sure they have taken good care of the 12v battery. Enjoy the great ride ! Nick
