Go to Fordparts.com and you can see the console parts illustration. Select 2013 C-max \ Body \ Console and click on the console parts illustration. It does not show the mystery black plastic thing.

Question re: Fog Lights
ceemax71 replied to grggwlkr's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors & Wipers
In heavy traffic they don't seem to help much. With dense fog on an isolated road with no traffic, they can help you see the road a lot better. This is probably a topic for debate. http://www.cartalk.com/content/whos-right-about-fog-lights -
Question re: Fog Lights

Do you have much fog in Arizona? -
TSB 12-12-6, LIFTGATE DOES NOT POWER CLOSE OR THE LIFTGATE AJAR LIGHT IS ON Fix is to adjust the stop bumpers.

It looks like the lights will not come on unless the wiper switch is set to the low or high speed setting. Just saw this message issued by Ford on OASIS (12/12/2012): SSM 12063 - 2012-2013 Focus 2013 C-Max, Escape - Rain Light - Proper Operation 2012-2013 Focus and 2013 C-Max and Escape vehicles equipped with the Rain Light feature will not work with the wiper switch set to intermittent/delay mode by design. This feature will only work when the wiper switch is set to the low or high speed settings during daylight operation, and the headlamp switch set to Autolamp mode with a 5 to 10 second delay before headlamps/park lamps turn on. After the wiper switch is turned off, the lamps will remain on for approximately5 to 10 seconds.

ISSUE: Some 2013 C-MAX vehicles equipped with Hands-Free Liftgate feature may exhibit a condition where the opening feature is inoperative after the vehicle has been locked for three (3) minutes or longer. No diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) will be present. ACTION: Reprogram the Rear Gate Trunk Module (RGTM) module to the latest calibration using Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) release 84.03 and higher. Link

You can get one here for less than $5,000,000.00 installed. ;) It might wear out your tires, though.

I haven't tried it, but the Sync manual says you can use the sd slot for music. Normally, updates are done with a USB drive. The SanDisk "Cruzer Fit" USB drive solves the "breaking off" risk. Link I'm not sure about the maximum size drive. I believe others have used larger than 32GB.

Page 169 of the owner's manual shows maximum power on any of the power outlets is 180 watts. Page 275 of the owner's manual shows it is fuse F27 (20A rating) in the luggage compartment fuse panel. Be aware that the rear outlet is hot even when the ignition is off, so you wouldn't want to leave an inverter plugged in all the time.

You are welcome. And welcome to this forum. There is a lot of good information about the C-Max and maximizing the fun of owning a C-Max on this forum.

I ordered in January and got the standard $750 retail customer cash. At signing they threw in another Ford $750 incentive that I didn't know about. Others have posted that they were able to use the X plan for the C-Max.

TSB issued May 2, 2013 to address charging the 12 volt battery. There is no manufacture cut-off date so this could apply to all vechicles in the field as of today's date. ISSUE: Some 2013 C-Max, Fusion Hybrid, Fusion Energi and MKZ Hybrid vehicles may exhibit a 12 volt battery which is unable to maintain a charge or becomes discharged when the vehicle is operated with maximum electrical loads for short drive cycles and then left unattended for several hours. ACTION: Reprogram the Direct Current/Direct Current (DC/DC) Converter Control Module to the latest calibration using IDS release 84.02 and higher. Link to TSB

The A/C compressor electric motor is powered by the high voltage battery. This adds load to the engine to keep the high voltage battery charged. This should be more efficient than being directly driven by the engine, since the compressor motor speed can be optimized for the actual cooling load.

A new TSB dated 4/29/13 might apply for this issue. TSB 13-4-22, WRENCH LAMP WITH DTC P061A/U1011/P060C - REDUCTION IN VEHICLE POWER ISSUE:Some 2013 C-MAX Hybrid/Energi vehicles built on or before 4/9/2013 may exhibit illuminated wrench lamp or red triangle lamp or both with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P061A in the powertrain control module (PCM) and/or U1011 in the transmission control module (TCM) and/or P060C in the TCM. ACTION:Reprogram the PCM to the latest calibration using IDS release 84.02 and higher.

How do I turn off my DRL's?
ceemax71 replied to armoredsaint's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors & Wipers
The daytime running light function is enabled in software at the factory. There is no relay or wiring changes for DRL. However, according to several posts on blueovalforums.com, starting with 2013 model year, DRL cannot be enabled or disabled by dealer service technicians. Dealer service techs have tried to enable DRL using IDS software, but the DRL enable parameter is no longer accessible. This is directly from the shop manual: Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) The DRL system consists of the low beams and the BCM. The DRL system operates the low beam headlamps at a reduced intensity to increase the visibility of the vehicle in traffic. Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) NOTE: The DRL is a programmable parameter for this vehicle. The DRL system utilizes the existing circuitry and components from the headlamp system and operates the low beam headlamps at a reduced intensity. The BCM monitors the ignition status, the headlamp switch and autolamp status. Based on the inputs, the BCM activates the DRL. The DRL are activated when the ignition is in RUN and the low beams have not been turned on by the autolamp system or the headlamp switch. -
The "footrest" might actually be a passageway for the high voltage cable. Check page 17 of this link that shows "no-cut" zones for emergency occupant extraction. http://elvsolutions.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/C-Max%20Battery%20Removal_Final.pdf I could be wrong, but It looks like the high voltage cable might be right behind the "footrest".

The seat temperature should vary based on the setting. This is from the shop manual: Heated Seats The heated seat switches adjust the driver or passenger seat to the desired heat setting: 0 through 5 (setting 0 is off, 1 is the lowest and 5 is the highest). Each heated seat switch position sends a unique voltage signal to the associated driver or passenger heated seat module. The heated seat module supplies heater current to the seat cushion and backrest heater mats while monitoring input from a temperature sensor (part of the seat cushion heater mat) to maintain the desired seat temperature (setpoint) selected by the heated seat control switch. The heated seat remains on until the heated seat switch is turned off or the ignition is turned off. Heated Seat Switch The heated seat switch contains two 6-position rotary (potentiometer) switches (one for the driver side and the other for the passenger side). The heated seat switch supplies a voltage signal to the corresponding driver or passenger heated seat module based upon the selected switch positions. Heated Seat Module When commanded by the heated seat switch, the driver/passenger heated seat module monitors the seat cushion temperature sensor and supplies heater current to the seat cushion and backrest heater mats until the desired setpoint temperature is reached. Once the setpoint temperature is reached, the heated seat module cycles the heater circuits on/off as required to maintain the setpoint temperature. Heater Mat The seat cushion heater mat is equipped with a temperature sensor (thermistor) which provides feedback to the heated seat module. The backrest heater mat can be serviced separately from the cushion heater mat. The cushion and backrest heater mats are connected in series.

I would be very cautious using the wire connected to the rear view mirror. Looking at the shop manual wiring diagram for the mirror, it does not look like it is a clean source of +12VDC. Even if it is a source +12VDC, it might only be hot when the headlights are turned on or the light sensor determines that it is not daytime. The manual is not clear on how the mirror works. The wires to the mirror come from the body control module and are not directly connected to +12VDC.

Screen protector for MyFord Touch screen?
ceemax71 replied to BigRed's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
Maybe a screen protector for an Ipad or 8.9" Kindle Fire? -
You can get an X-plan PIN if you have owned at least 100 shares of Ford stock for at least 6 months. http://blog.fosketts.net/2012/05/21/ford-xplan-pricing-shareholders/

Both TSB 13-4-7 and TSB 13-4-13 only applied to C-Max with the 4.2" display. Both TSB's require reprogramming the FCDIM. The C-Max with the 8" touch screen does not have the FCDIM module. TSB 13-4-13 probably superseded TSB 13-4-7 just to clarify the fact that the procedure only applies tor the 4.2" display.

Some info. from Ford Canada on 3.5.1 update
ceemax71 replied to Laurel's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
According to a message from OASIS issued today: Field service action 13A01 for the Fusion hybrid Sync 3.51 update has been released. Owner letters of notification will be mailed week of 4/29/13. FSA 13A01 states there will be a supplement coming shortly for the C-Max Hybrid. The free update has to be done by the dealer since the PCM module needs to be reprogrammed using IDS.
