You probably just duplicated the EPA test conditions. Prior to the current EPA test methodolgy their previous test process yielded unrealitically high mpg numbers and was revised to its current state. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/ratings2008.shtml

Congrats and welcome, best source on the web for C-Max tips and tricks is this forum.

Hello and welcome. Good choice with the Energi. Did you check out the video I posted with Energi details?

Wecome to the club, I too own a Subaru Outback. Test drove the new Subaru Impreza hatch but it didn't have the power or features we wanted. Are you keeping the Outback?

I have tried the climate trick too and it works well. I have a several blocks through a school zone before I hit the main highway. With the climate on from a cold start the engines sits and idles trying to warm the cabin.

Not certain what the battery charge state was in either of the tests. The electric motors additional 112lbs of torque could easily push it down into the 7s with a full charge.

Insideline quotes the 0-60 at 8.1 about the same as our Golf TDI. They also quote C-Max skidpad at .75g but I read one review that with TC off its .77g. Those numbers seem right too. http://www.insideline.com/ford/c-max-hybrid/2013/2013-ford-c-max-hybrid-full-test-and-video.html

http://www.cnbc.com/id/100287269 Don't Expect Ford Sales to Fall Both the Fusion Hybrid and the C-Max Hybrid are building momentum in a market dominated by the Toyota Prius Line-up. Ford has sold 10,856 Fusion Hybrids this year and 8,999 C-Max Hybrids. Those pale compared to Prius sales of 216,619 according to the research firm AutoData. So how much could this dispute hurt hybrid sales at Ford? In my opinion it's not likely to have a big impact. I base that opinion on the reaction to the Hyundai having to lower the fuel economy claims of several models including the red-hot Elantra. In the auto world it was a big story. In the real world it did little to dent sales. In fact, last month Hyundai grew sales by 4.7 percent. In 2012, Hyundai has set a new record for U.S. sales (643,572) and it still has one month left to increase those record results. Car buyers do care about mileage. Yes, some may decide not to buy the Fusion and C-Max hybrid because the Consumer Reports claims, but I think most who are interested in these models will still buy them.

Disconnect low-voltage battery? (Frozen MyFordTouch screen)
darrelld replied to csavage7's topic in General Discussion
Have you tried this one? http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showpost.php?p=4481849&postcount=10 Finally, a solution that worked. I read several recommendations elsewhere about disconnecting the battery but thought better of it. However, I did remove the fuse for 15+ minutes after trying that first for about 2 minutes. Nothing helped until I read this post about turning the car on w/o the Sync fuse installed. It Worked! Thanks. -
I can understand your frustration, but you are still better off with the C-Max. I traded a Jetta TDI for my C-Max due to high pressure fuel pump failures that are numbering in the 1000's. The Golf TDI you were considering is seeing those same issues, just lookup TDI HPFP. The Passat TDI that I current own has a completely different fuel system and even gets the Consumer Reports highly recommend status. So if you decide to go diesel the Passat TDI is the way to go for now.

Thanks for the link, definately covers all the details. Did anyone notice the 0-60 times in the 7s? I thought they made a mistake until the guy mentioned it in the video.

I would like to know the test temperatures that these sources used? Without that parameter the test results are almost meaningless. If they test a Prius for example at 70 degrees and then test the C-Max in the 30's the margin of error will change with the test parameter. Keep in mind Ford publishes EPA test results and markets based on that data. If their test process is flawed as in Hyundai then they will need to make corrections and restate. If the EPA test doesn't reflect the real world thats a seperate issue. As far as being honest with consumers goes remember when Toyota was fined and the CEO hauled before congress for concealing safety defects. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2010-04-19/toyota-fined-177m-for-hiding-safety-defect/401654

Curious why you didn't opt for a diesel with the type of driving you do? I regularly exceed EPA ratings in my Passat TDI and I can hit the highway rated 40+ mpg @ 70.

Ford hybrids fall short of fuel claims-Consumer Reports
darrelld replied to R3dRyd3r's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
Been a Consumer Reports subscriber for years and very familiar with their ratings, they are not 100% accurate. Owned several Toyotas and my 2006 Lexus IS was the worst most problematic recalled car I have ever owned. Both Toyota and Honda are in a race to see who can recall the most cars this year; http://www.nbcnews.com/business/toyota-hold-worlds-biggest-car-recall-16-years-1C6374378 -
Ford C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid test drive (video)
darrelld replied to darrelld's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
Fixed the link, good video. -
Some of the articles take the low side of the numbers posted to make the case for the article while ignoring higher scores. The impressions they are trying to make is there is no one getting EPA and that is not true. I look forward to the EPA retest, they already tested the Energi with 200lbs heavier batteries and still beat the Consumer Reports findings. I think they may lower the highway rating but most hybrids I have driven inflate that number. If you understand physics there is no possible way you can carry hybrid batteries, motors, and support systems to achieve the same economy as city driving. Most highway energy is expended overcoming rolling and wind resistance, diesel is your best option for pure highway driving. A gallon of diesel starts with 10% more energy by volume/weight than gasoline and the combustion process is more complete. My Passat TDI has electric heat in the cabin because the engine is so efficient there is little waste heat left over for climate control. VW's new EA288 TDI will be even 30% more efficient than the current models but you need it to make up for the fuel costs.

Looking for some Troll treats again I see... Troll definition It has been asserted that the verb to troll originates from Old French troller, a hunting term. A verb "trôler" is found in modern French-English dictionaries, where the main meaning given is "to lead, or drag, somebody about". In modern English usage, the verb to troll describes a fishing technique of slowly dragging a lure or baited hook from a moving boat.[6] A similar but distinct verb, "to trawl," describes the act of dragging a fishing net (not a line). Whereas trolling with a fishing line is recreational, trawling with a net is generally a commercial activity. The noun troll comes from the Old Norse word for a mythological monster.[7] The word evokes the trolls of Scandinavian folklore and children's tales, where they are often creatures bent on mischief and wickedness. The contemporary use of the term is alleged to have appeared on the Internet in the late 1980s,[8] but the earliest known example is from 1992.[9] Early non-Internet related use of trolling for actions deliberately performed to provoke a reaction can be found in the military; by 1972 the term trolling for MiGs was documented in use by US Navy pilots in Vietnam.[10] Early history The most likely derivation of the word troll can be found in the phrase "trolling for newbies", popularized in the early 1990s in the Usenet group, alt.folklore.urban (AFU).[11][12] Commonly, what is meant is a relatively gentle inside joke by veteran users, presenting questions or topics that had been so overdone that only a new user would respond to them earnestly. For example, a veteran of the group might make a post on the common misconception that glass flows over time. Long-time readers would both recognize the poster's name and know that the topic had been discussed a lot, but new subscribers to the group would not realize, and would thus respond. These types of trolls served as a practice to identify group insiders. This definition of trolling, considerably narrower than the modern understanding of the term, was considered a positive contribution.[11][13] One of the most notorious AFU trollers, David Mikkelson,[11] went on to create the urban folklore website Snopes.com. By the late 1990s, alt.folklore.urban had such heavy traffic and participation that trolling of this sort was frowned upon. Others expanded the term to include the practice of playing a seriously misinformed or deluded user, even in newsgroups where one was not a regular; these were often attempts at humor rather than provocation. In such contexts, the noun troll usually referred to an act of trolling, rather than to the author. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_(Internet)

I noticed most of the major pubs including Consumer Reports referenced each other to support their view resulting in a circular reference. They picked data from this site, fuelly, and fueleconomy.gov and ignored data that contradicted the foregone conclusions.

Thanks, I have only tried this descending interstate bridges (Texas version of a hill).

The tach only exists as part of a My View configuration. I have the Tach and Temp on mine.

I think you description is correct, you can confirm this by watching your tach and engaging hill assist during a descent. This is what I have observed.

Cool, I haven't seen any other C-Maxs in Plano but according to cars.com inventory they are flying off the lots.
