Ford hybrids fall short of fuel claims-Consumer Reports
darrelld replied to R3dRyd3r's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
Last year I bought a coffee pot that Consumer Reports gave their top rating. Less than a week later my coffee pot started to leak and I returned it for a full refund. I started reading all the user reviews on Amazon and Consumer Reports, 98% experienced quality issues? http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/feed-resources/power-reviews/pwr/product-reviews/Coffeemakers/Cooks/p/246__99031374-Stainless-Steel-CM4221-JC-Penney.html -
It's not my imagination on regular 10% ethanol.
-
Without trying on 10% ethanol and regular.

My 15 mile trip to work this morning with temps in the low 40's avg 37 mpg. The same trip home for lunch temps in the 60's avg 53 mpg. Return to work from home avg 54 mpg. When I took my turn to drive from my wife the dash was displaying 40 m. I have driven for 2 days the avg raised to 43.5 mpg with 250 miles on this tank.

So all those people who meet or exceed EPA here and Fuelly are just making it up?
-
Thats what Trolls usually do. ; )

I agree with your Fuelly analysis, I also believe the same about people who buy Prius vs C-Max. I believe the Prius demographic tends toward those want to do everything they can to optimize economy. Ed Begley for example drives a Prius. I believe those people will buy a C-Max but probably lean more toward the Energi. Ford data reveals that most C-Max buyer traded in competitors vehicles, but they don't break that out to hybrid, TDI, etc. I see several, including my self, TDI owners who traded mentioned on this forum.

What I have observed from Total KW in the Empower screen is how easy it is to consume larger than needed amounts of power unless you pay attention. The current throttle map is very sensitive, almost like the sport mode I have seen in the Toyota Hybrids.

What color do you perfer?

If you see a Ingot Silver C-Max SEL running around Plano it could be me -
I was told about the back order also because the vehicle is so new. It only took 2 days to get the part.

Yes I have driven in West Texas.

It would be easy for Ford to remap the throttle and add an ECO setting to the left display like they do with TC. Turn it on if you want to max out your FE.

Ford hybrids fall short of fuel claims-Consumer Reports

I would see the same cool weather mpg drop from the many Lexus Hybrid loaners I drove while my IS was in the shop. -
The shutters are located behind the grill in front of the radiator. The external grill cover should provide more of an aerodynamic improvement and lower drag coefficient.

Consumer Reports did not mention what the ambient temps were during their testing procedure for the C-Max and the other hybrids. I notice where their test facility is located its been in the 30's. I see about a 10 mpg hit when the temp drops into the low 40's. -
If you started with "Check fuel filler inlet" and later got Check Engine Light I went through the same thing for getting parts. Dealer also told me it was drivable, but I took the 2013 Escape loaner anyway.

I looked at 5 Star but they didn't have the color combos I wanted without ordering. The price was set no matter which dealer because my wife gets X-Plan. -
You should should post that to fuelly.com, helps everyone sort through real data from owners.

I should have said Bankston Frisco. Hello, what dealer did you order through? -
Fords sales figures for the C-Max have the competition worried. Toyota spends a lot of money on ads in most of those magazines except for Consumer Reports. Consumer Reports has never shown much enthusiasm for domestic vehicles of any brand.
-
Thats interesting because in the same Consumer Reports test you site the Prius missed EPA combined by 6 mpg. The Sonata (same as the Optima) actually got closer to EPA than the car you bought? http://news.consumerreports.org/cars/2012/12/video-tests-show-2013-ford-fusion-c-max-hybrids-dont-live-up-to-47-mpg-claims.html

I am in Allen and you? Picked up my C-Max at Bankston Plano. -
Great article, looks like Consumer Reports and those journalists from Automotive News don't know how to properly drive a hybrid like the C-Max. : )

My wife drives it 5 days a week and I drive 2 days. She pretty much drives it like she stole it, rocketing away from red lights tailgating the car in front of until she can pass. Even with her driving like that the lowest I have see the dash read is 40 mpg. I use more pulse and glide techniques with moderate accelerator input and anticipate traffic or stop lights returning as much energy as possible to the battery. Its an engineering challenge for me more than anything.
