  1. Since the late 70's to the present, I've owned motorcycles that have had, by law, full headlights/brakelights upon keying on and have benefited from their safety. There is nothing "foolish" about it nor detrimental to the vehicle's operation. My 2010 Prius, truly a state of the art car, didn't have DRL's. It did have auto lamps but you could still burn down the 12v if you turned the headlights on while the car was powered off. The next time I visit a dealership, I will certainly ask if DRL's can be turned on but I won't "demand" a feature that wasn't promised, advertised, nor legally required when I purchased it.
  2. Did it all summer long: short trips + hwy= sub 40's.
  3. Is that called fueliy? Basically anything below 40mpg will not make it to a 500 mile tank (comfortably with room for error).
  4. Well I guess I'm still a bottom feeder in this club but at least I moved out of the 30's into the 40's! I can't wait for winter when I can finally use less a/c. That should allow to move me further up the list.
  5. FTFY :lol2: On the new google maps page, look to the upper right corner for a gear looking icon. Click that and select "classic maps". The link icon is next to the printer.
  6. Yes those should always be considered as variables that effect mileage but nothing like: YUP! I've been driving this same route for the past five years in first a prius, then a volt, and now a cmax. The effect has been the same on them all.
  7. I plotted my daily route and the overall +/- is 23ft!!!! yet I can see an mpg difference of 5-15mpg (usually towards the latter) depending on the direction. Why? Wind. Can be calm on the morning run yet 35-40mph in the afternoon. NOTE: With a mac/safari, I have to use google's classic maps to see the appropriate "link" icon.
  8. Overall, I think the rear view camera (302A) is more useful. You'll get the NAV/big screen/handsfree liftgate/sony 9 speaker thrown in for "free"! :) YMMV
  9. Good question! :detective: If you look at the 3 o'clock position on the cover in the second photo of my post (not the one above you quoted), you might see the stitching for a sewn in slot. That's where I threaded it through. Using the same slot and tie down points, I'm now laying the wheel down so I can still utilize the privacy cover.
  10. This fellow just had some installed, not sure of the brand. http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/2475-what-did-you-do-to-your-cmax-today/?p=31319
  11. That looks like the ticket. It's not that much more than a traditional keyless system with the numeric touchpad @ $190. I have no use for one of these at home as I enter via the garage with the CMax built-in door opener but I really would like one for work (never gonna' happen).
  12. Found this deal on a Prius forum. It's through advance auto parts. I'm not sure how long it lasts but that thread said today was the last. (?) Anyway, I did have to pay tax here in Texas so it was $119 shipped versus MSRP $169 plus shipping. Must use coupon code! http://shop.advanceautoparts.comf or http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_ii-digital-trip-monitor-scangauge_10206633-p?searchTerm=scangauge USE coupon code: DOW36 DOW48 (as of 11/27/13)
  13. I don't see a sedan with a limited trunk being a "prius killer". I didn't cross shop the fusion hybrid while looking at the Cmax. Honda hybrids have a checkered past to overcome.
  14. This one includes some of the symbols; most look like traditional wx items for fronts but there are some others I've never seen. Probably alien spacecraft would be my educated guess...... :detective: Originally, I found the wx map nothing more than a gee-whiz feature but now find it to be very, very useful and something I rely on quite often. It takes a couple of moments to load after powering on the car but it updates every few minutes and follows your route. It won't let you scroll around the map while the car is in motion other than zoom in/out one level. Pic is in the zoomed out mode.
  15. Try raising your seat. I have the drivers seat all the way up and I'm not short (joe avg at 5ft. 10in). This gives me a better view of the road, the door sill height is better for my elbow when I want to rest my left arm, and ingress/egress is easier because I now don't have to sit down or climb up, I just slide in. And I still have TONS of headroom.
  16. At 18 pages, it's probably a good time to restate the two criteria for this thread: 1) A trip that nets over 50mpg (the higher and longer, the more impressive) 2) Picture proof We now return to our program all ready in progress.
  17. Ford could make it more efficient but then it would have the output/throttle response of a prius; a common compliant.
  18. Well you do lose more going up than you gain coming down. If not, you've got a perpetual motion machine. Nice summer temps and high altitude do wonderful things for hybrids. Even if you go up a lot, finding a route with an overall drop in altitude can do wonderful things as I found out in my recent trip to the mountains of New Mexico. Side note: Electric vehicles are now setting the fastest times at the historic Pikes Peak hill climb event because they don't lose power as they gain altitude like the gassers do.
  19. I got lucky last night with a flat tire and made it home for the repair. I used my own plug kit and garage compressor so the Tire Mobility Kit is still unused.
  20. Well I got my first (and hopefully last) flat. The good news is I made it home from work. I had my spare with me and yes I got a low pressure warning but it was a very slow leak. I suspect I picked it up at lunch. The culprit: a broken off razor from a box cutter tool. Got it repaired with my plug kit. Going to see if it will hold till this weekend when I'd like to take it in for a interior plug. The BAD news is my 2 ton bottle jack was too tall to fit under the car at the specified jack point. In a pinch (roadside), I could have put it under the suspension but I'll be returning it for a scissor jack. I found they have them at walmart in the automotive section for about $20. I will edit my previous post recommending it.
  21. After the update, I immediately did a similar length trip but at even higher legal speeds (75-80mph) with a fully loaded car + cargo carrier + heavy a/c use and still netted 37.5mpg overall. I suspect you'll get much better out there in cooler weather. My suggestion: set the eco-cruise and enjoy the drive. :shift: The difference between the EPA highway rating of 40mpg and real world interstate driving of 37mpg meant a whopping difference of 4.8 gallons on my trip. My longest day was 12 hours and I felt fine at the end of the day; very comfortable car. :puppy_kiss:
