  1. Air is 78% nitrogen. While pure nitrogen in tires does have benefits, you have pointed out the futility of real world usage. IMO, it's just another money maker for dealerships and a lure to keep you coming back to them for tire service.
  2. I like your math the best! :victory: I even rocked the car in an attempt to "burp it" to hopefully squeeeeeeeze in a couple of more tenths. I usually stop at the first click so this is new territory for me. That's my plan! :kookie:
  3. 700 barrier is behind me now! Bad news is the yellow low fuel indicator has activated; however, cumulative MPG has increased slightly which is a very good sign! :happy feet:
  4. At the halfway point. Still maintaining good overall mpg but the weather is taking a downturn with more heat and wind; however, I still haven't needed to use the a/c.
  5. My personal best tank has been 769miles@59mpg. On this attempt with a topped off tank and more favorable weather, it's a better start. GAME ON! :shift:
  6. Assuming you're talking about the ICE temperature, my view allows you to see an analog scale (no numbers). From the OM: The thermometer indicator next to the gauge will illuminate in blue or white to indicate the following: Blue thermometer : This indicates that the hybrid system is not warm enough to allow EV operation. The gasoline engine will run continuously when the indicator is blue. During silent key start mode, the thermometer indicator will be blue, but the gasoline engine will not run. This is the result of the vehicle computer allowing the engine to be cooler during the silent key start period. This is normal operation and does not indicate a problem with your vehicle. After the first engine start the indicator will turn white when the gasoline engine is warm enough to turn off. White thermometer : This indicates that the hybrid system is warm enough to allow EV operation. If the vehicle operates on battery power long enough, it is possible that the gasoline engine may need to run to keep the system warm. In this case, the thermometer indicator will revert back to blue
  7. No need to turn things on just push the gas pedal to the floor and hold it. ICE will start. Now as to the 5 min. part, I have no suggestion other than to keep it floored until the battery fills up because the ICE should stop running regardless of the pedal position. I would think that should be more than sufficient for lubrication purposes.
  8. I've been running premium the past 3 or so tanks. Add in some (OK, a lot!) proper hypermiling and the results can be crazy high.
  9. A public apology: I'm sooo sorry Jus. My humor doesn't always translate in this limited communication in the virtual world. Please feel free to delete it.
  10. Yup, it takes way more effort on the drivers part plus a good bit of luck with the planets lining up (wx, traffic, time, family plans, etc). It's not as easy as it sounds. CONGRATS! :happy feet: and welcome to the club. Champagne and caviar are on the table next to the bar. **********
  11. Ditto. But the next 50 can seem like pins and needles! :waiting:
  12. ♫ ♫ Whistle..♪.♫..Whistle..♪. ♫..whistle..♪..♫ ;)
  13. NICE! Now time to work on those brake scores. :rtfm: Easy mpg's to be gained there.
  14. When I did my recent 700+ tank, I faced a similar scenario in that my normal commute route would take me as far away from a gas station as possible around the 700 goal. And I'd have my kids with me. So, I decided to waste some gas and finish the tank on a special run/route that would keep me near stations at all times the evening before. Yes, I wussed out.
  15. One WAG on my part is a much more aggressive use of the grill shutters.
  16. I didn't get my SGII till Sept. so I missed peak summer temps but the highest I've seen so far is 202f with afternoon temps in the mid-90's. IIRC, the 202F reading was in the mid-80's during some city traffic. FWIW
  17. Welcome :love_shower: and don't be a stranger. :noobie:
  18. Since Ford has publicly stated that the 2014 will come with "New engine oil with reduced friction", I can only assume it will be an 0W-20 spec. What else is there? Mobil 1 0w-20 meets or exceeds both of Ford's specs: Ford WSS-M2C945-A Ford WSS-M2C930-A A 1-2% increase may sound small (and it is) but, just like bumping up tire pressures, it works all the time and takes 0% effort on the part of the driver. As always, YMMV. :)
  19. Although it looks exactly like a button, it's not. It's simply a door lock indicator (that's very hard to see once you're outside the vehicle).
  20. I may be wrong but IIRC the wipers have to run at a certain speed for a certain length of time for the lights to come on. If not, then the lights would be turning on/off too frequently. Make sense?
  21. I couldn't picture one in my mind so I had to pull up some pics and think I found it on the upper left quad in this pic. Yup, no wonder I've never turned it off.
  22. OK, I'm sure this sounds like a really silly question but....... how do you turn the radio off? I just turn it down.
  23. It comes with semi-synthetic. My dealer gives a free first change and used mobil 1 5w-20 full syn at 3k miles. I changed it myself at 10k with 0w-20 mobil 1 full syn and will be using 10k intervals. These are the spec's from the OM: •Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil (US) •Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 Full Synthetic Motor Oil (US)
  24. Yes there are other reasons to plug-in besides possibly lower running costs. For some, it's using cleaner energy, others it's using domestic energy and/or reducing the dependence of foreign sources, HOV access, and for some its the pleasure of smooth silent propulsion. Lots of benefits to EV driving.
  25. OP is looking at a 5% drop with cooler weather and as others have pointed out this is normal. Maybe a change in the thread title is in order?
