Hey every little bit helps so good news on the discount. I myself was the beneficiary of finding a used Intro-tech for sale here on the forum. Anyway, it does reflect heat exceptionally well (I also have dark tint) and fits the windshield very well (no sun visors needed to hold it in place). It's also very well constructed, thick and sturdy. Similar ones sold in autoparts stores, walmart, etc are a joke in comparison; however, that's also the one and only downside I can find. It's big and cumbersome to store. Other than that, a very big thumbs up! < not exactly the correct emoticon :)

Being a flat-lander, I'm the last person to ask but the way I understand it is this: the order you have the options listed is the correct order for the increasing steepness and/or length of the grade. Bottom line: once the battery is full from regeneration it's best to be in L to give the traditional friction brakes the easiest possible load.

No hard drive and no DVD player?
fotomoto replied to BIG ROCCO's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
Can't watch a DVD while driving so no real reason to have one. A usb thumb drive works just as well as a hard drive but doesn't drive up the cost of the car. DVD based NAV can be slow. My volt had a hard drive and a DVD/CD player and the one big plus for that combo was ripping CD's straight to the hard drive. What's a CD, you say? Well........ -

Did Ford Tweak the Computer? (or is it just the weather)
fotomoto replied to Riddley's topic in Fuel Mileage
Weather, plain and simple. I've seen it on other hybrid forums: Prius can jump to the upper 50's, Volt battery range can double for those in cold states. Biggest gains come from those who use HVAC the least. I believe (don't know for certain) the C-Max is especially vulnerable to cold due to lack of some heat warmup/retention technology (grill shutters are step in the right direction). -
OH NOOOOO! Not another noob....... :) I have the same color combo and love it. Since your wife is also a hybrid newb, she should join the forum and learn the tips and tricks that are special to hybrid driving. Once one understands how things work, the high mpg's come MUCH easier.

Automatic Climate Control always on with car start
fotomoto replied to Hatchman's topic in Maintenance, TSB's & Recalls
I'm not trying to downplay Hatchman's issues but coming from another car that didn't have good old buttons and dials for the HVAC controls I was so glad to see the CMax had them. I've yet to use the touch screen panel for HVAC other than to look at it initially. I could have the same issues and not know it simply because I only use the dials and rarely touch them since it usually stays on Auto/74F/recirc. -
I hate doing it but it had to be done...
fotomoto replied to Michigan Max's topic in Appearance: Detailing, Wash & Wax
It's not. Lots of elbow grease required but the sooner and more often one does it the easier it is. Cars with years of neglect will take hours so it's best to stay ahead of the game like Michigan Max is doing. I did my ruby red in preparation for applying paint protection in the opti-coat thread http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/1295-opti-coat-any-one-try-yet/ and it was pretty easy as the paint was in still in great shape being only 5 weeks old but it was still amazing how much the clay picked up even after a really, really good hand wash. Use lots of lubrication (must resist inserting crass sexual joke here). :hysterical: -
Yes, I have it. I just didn't name it per se: GasTracker It's a little buggy but it gets the job done.

I award thee two :worship: :worship: and one :happy feet: ! Seriously, you need to start a 700 tank thread and save this thread for us mere mortals.

Agreed but.......... they're also punishing the social behavior they are trying to build via tax credits and HOV access. How's this: flat rate for all vehicles and continue the fuel use tax/gallon. Everyone pays their fair share but inefficient fuel vehicles will still pay more And since most of these gas hogs are larger and heavier vehicles (there are minor exceptions), they cause more wear & tear to road surfaces. Another suggestion from other forums: tax based upon mileage that is recorded/tallied at inspection time or upon selling.

After nearly two months of ownership, I recently joined and simply started with the tank that I was on at the time. I use the iPhone app to log in the data while I'm still at the pump otherwise I wouldn't have joined fuelly as I don't have the discipline to do it later when I get to a computer at home or work.

This is another low qualifier but I'm pretty happy with it because: A) it's another result from the entire morning leg of my daily commute and thus begins with a completely cold engine and B) of particular note today was also in pretty stiff winds. I suffered through strong headwinds on the first half and began to lose hope as the AVG meter plummeted but we were the beneficiaries of nice tailwinds during the second half with some really long glides. Final score: :happy feet:

Scuba and other new owners, reset the main AVG meter daily (let trip 1 or 2 keep track of the tank) to see how different driving scenarios affect mpg's. Don't be alarmed if you see, like I do, sub-20's at the beginning as the meter will take wild swings right after a reset; especially with a cold ICE. I'm not too much north of you in terms of lattitude so our temps are fairly close. Yes, heat and wind will have negative affects but the a/c penalty isn't as bad as folks needing heat up north during their winters. I use Auto mode and I've watched the energy use in "My View". After the initial cool down, power usage drops significantly. Living along the gulf, wind is the killer for me. Today we'll have sustained 20-25mph with gusts to 40 and forecast of near 50 for tomorrow! Unfortunately, these moist winds are the fuel for tornadic activity in the central US. But every cloud has a silver lining because trips with a tailwind like these are awesome!

FINALLY!!!! :happy feet: Let the fun begin.

Add me to the list of the satisfied Meguiars users. I also use Murphy's oil soap for the rare heavy duty cleanup mainly because I always have it on hand anyway for home floor care but follow up with the Meguiars as a protectorant.

Update: Long story short, I did wash it again three days ago but it was a hand wash. No issues.

Disconnect low-voltage battery? (Frozen MyFordTouch screen)
fotomoto replied to csavage7's topic in General Discussion
Yes it's hidden but quite easy to get to once you know where it is. It's under the carpeted rear flip up cover in the hatch. Remove the rubber pad in the right side storage bin and pull the bottom plastic cover off. 12V battery is under it. Traditional jump points are still under the front hood. Owners manual can be found on-line and is searchable and I greatly prefer using it over the paper one in the glovebox: http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/1603-on-line-owners-manual/ -
I thought about posting the same thing. I quit being a moderator on a motorcycle forum specifically because several members wanted to open it up to such topics. The site is now a shell of its former, popular self. PC has a *cough* vibrant off-topic section and the personalities/fights can't help but bleed into the on-topic section. I would STRONGLY suggest current admin. drop our lounge sub-fourm as it will become a pandora's box. There are plenty of places on the internet for open topic chat. I come here to learn about the C-Max.

Test drove C-Max, Prius & JSW TDI
fotomoto replied to Testdriver's topic in Buying, Order and Leasing
The EV battery heating/cooling is only controlled by air temps. The air intake vents are located just above and behind the rear seats. Your engine was running to warm up itself and, if you had the HVAC on, the interior. The majority of the time the engine runs (called ICE in hybrid speak), it spins the electric motor/generator which adds charge to the battery till it fills or you drop into EV mode. -
Hey, I didn't say it would be cheap just easy! :) Easy, cheap, fast: you can only pick two. ;)
-
Always a worry especially with a new vehicle but kinda' like the first scratch in the paint it's going to happen sooner or later.... but on this occasion no interior plastics were harmed. It was all in town driving, I drove cautiously, and the bricks weren't stack high enough to topple. Your wish is my command: http://www.viamotors.com Bring your pocketbook (a large one).
