  1. 60+ mpg means avoiding high speeds as much as possible but high mpg's in general are easier to obtain when you have a warm gasoline engine (ICE). Winter temps and winter gas formulas will make it tougher to get good mpg's. Read up, there is a wealth of knowledge and information here to get you headed in the right direction.
  2. There is nothing wrong. That is the brake actuator pump priming the system up to pressure. Remember, since the car can run without the ICE, all subsystems must be able to function without it operating. So, the brakes, airconditioning, power steering, etc all electrically powered. The brake system uses the door opening as its "cue" to prime so the vehicle is ready to drive by the time its powered up and put in gear.
  3. AFAIK, the Prius Plug In (PIP) is the only vehicle in the entire Toyota/Lexus hybrid line running LiOn chemistry. Even the recently announced hydrogen fuel cell car will (supposedly) run the old metal hydride pack out of the Camry.
  4. During the initial shopping phase before we purchased our 3rd CMax, when my casting net was veeeeery wide, the CT was on the list. It never made the test drive phase due to high costs, lower FE than the prius, and no nearby dealership. I couldn't see paying such a high premium for the same prius 1.8L drivetrain (which I had previously owned) yet get lower FE. It's also a little more cramped than the Prius with poor rear views. The CMax is a hatch but more of a CUV style with a higher driving position. It has a more powerful drivetrain and features you can't get on any of the Prius line: rain sensing wipers, power liftgate, foot-activated liftgate, pano-roof, five door smart key, auto-park, etc; however, you can outfit the Lexus with most of these features but by then you're in the $40k range after taxes! The great news is with gas prices on a major down cycle NOW is the time to buy a hybrid! :happy feet: Good luck!
  5. Off hand here are three ways: Touch the touchscreen prompt if you have MFT Use the right hand steering wheel controller "OK" button Use the paddle shifter "green" tab
  6. Yes, that's what I meant; the main guts and brains (hardware/software) but not necessarily other subsystems like the screen, switches, etc. that compose the entire MFT. Sorry for the confusion. Ever since the 3.6.2 update, "things" have quieted down considerably. So will there be further updates? :detective:
  7. FYI, the warranty on the MFT system was extended out to FIVE years, unlimited miles.
  8. I suspect this is the reason why, "The new system, which Ford calls “Sync 3,” uses BlackBerry's in-car operating system, QNX, instead of the Microsoft technology that has underpinned Sync since its introduction in 2007. "
  9. I was about to disagree because mine has a handle but.......... I have an Energi. The FOB itself is also different and slightly larger so I guess they could add the handle. Dunno'....
  10. I have the curt class II hitch and judging by it's beefy build I have no doubts to the 350lb rating.
  11. Judging solely by his accent, I'm going to guess that is a Euro-spec CMax. Cars built for other markets can and do have different features. And WELCOME to the site! :happy feet:
  12. Kellytoons hasn't meet fellow floridan (jupiter) GaryG; the king of the preconditioners! He swears by them and they are just one of his many tools for achieving 30+ mile range even in the summer.
  13. The following pertains to the Energi models with an ICE not the focus electric model. July 28th, 3:15 pm, central Florida= 98f with 115% humidity :drop: Car has been in a parking lot getting a charge. If the battery is getting towards it's upper operational threshold, the car will use the ICE instead of the EV/battery even with a full battery. So pre-con with a/c once or even twice will cool the interior AND battery letting the car drive under EV. In mildly cold weather after warming up the interior, the occupant can make do with just the low load seat heaters vs cranking up the 5kW heater. Another benefit is this gets some current flow through the battery warming it up some before driving. If the battery is too cold (Minnysnowtah weather), the car may revert to ICE only operation to protect the ev/battery just like the very hot weather example. Doing preconditioning off cheap or even free wall power is certainly preferable to having an unnecessary ICE start up because one lost too many miles as the HVAC drew down the battery. Timers can be set up one time though a smartphone or internet to have the car preconditioned to a set temp. and ready to go at departure time.
  14. THANKS for the report. Yes, 240v is the way to go especially if you need to pre-heat. 120v can't always keep up and the heater may need to pull additional power from the battery thus reducing range. As you said, range isn't an issue so that won't matter really much. A good rule of thumb for the charging rate of the slowest level II chargers (240v) is 10 miles per hour of range added. 120v is 4mph. When buying my first Energi, I looked at the FFE on the showroom floor. I was intrigued until I sat in the back. It was as cramped as my volt. A car that I had traded in in the cmax because it became to small for my changing family needs. They work great as commuters though!
  15. It's just a hunch but I think maybe the car switched over to accessory mode. It's been too long since I've purposely ran out of gas to recall if mine did it too. I do recall pulling over both times because I was wanting to take pics to document the mileage/fuel use, etc.
  16. Yes, there is an old and very long thread on this. It's game over once you get the "triangle of death". LOL NOTE: I had fueled up that tank until gas spilled out. You won't get this much into the tank letting that nozzle "click" off. I literally circle the blocks around a station when I was this close but I also carried a fuel can too. Don't worry, it starts right back up when you refuel it.
  17. Checked and aired up all 4 tires after warning sensor went off. Overnight cold front has lowered temps enough they were all in the trigger borderline region (30-35psi).
  18. No, the Volt can and does use the ICE for partial propulsion in certain situations once the battery is depleted. It never provides FULL propulsion.
  19. It took some digging but I think I found it while looking up splash guards: Part Name: Engine Intake InsulatorBrand: Ford Genuine Parts Part Number: 6P013 For $155.00 http://www.fordparts.com/Commerce/PartDetail.aspx?n=9%2fesiAVXj6xsgDirpeierQ%3d%3d&id=298071683&m=2&search=true&year=2013&make=Ford&model=C-Max
  20. Hmmm, who did the last oil change? Me thinks they didn't reattached the splash shield correctly. The screws are torx heads so maybe someone didn't have the right tool and only hand tightened them or just plain forgot and didn't double check their work. Anyways..... as homestead said, I'd try using some large flat washers to span any damaged ripped openings. If you can't repair/reattach it ASAP, you need to remove it completely so more damage doesn't occur.
  21. Ford listen to hybrid <cough, Prius, cough> drivers wishes, concerns, and complaints when developing the CMax. Things like EV+, better instrumentation (coolant gauge, tach, etc), more room, and a more powerful drivetrain are just some of the improvements. EV+ also works well for folks who's destination ends at the top of hills. They can arrive with an empty battery ready for recharging by regen on the coast back down on the next drive.
  22. EV+ works great for us Energi owners when it allows us to make it home gas free to a plug to recharge. Then, we don't have to worry about a gasoline burn first thing on the start up of the next drive. :) Trivia: you can force learn an EV+ location by turning the car on/off 11 times in a row.
