  1. another older simulation software here: http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fileexchange/28441-hybrid-electric-vehicle-model-in-simulink#feedback
  2. how about this software (free demo available. otherwise $80 to buy).: http://performancetrends.com/fuel_economy_calculator.htm
  3. for those who will be getting the update how will you be testing your Mpg numbers before and after to ensure a fair comparison. for those who won't update right away what will you need to get to know when it's "safe" to update. what if the dealer forces you to get the FE update when they do the Sync 3.6 update? or apply it without you knowing when you go in for MFT 3.6?
  4. even though this is based on the Energi, there are a lot of interesting points here to help get better mpg in your Cmax. he talks about how it's all about UN learning bad driving habits. what do you think?: http://carfanaticsblog.com/reviews/2013/01/2013-ford-c-max-energi/
  5. modern engines do not have metal shavings left in them anymore.close machining tolerances don't allow for this and they do a complete clean and flush before assembling. modern engines can go 5000 to 10000 miles before an oil change. my Passat service intervals is every 10k. doing the change sooner can be bad as sometimes the first oil put in a car is specific for breakin periods. water under the car? Did you use the A/C alot? sometimes the dealer over fills the containers.
  6. well said Ridley.i agree they have a bunch of test cars at Ford and they have been logging data for sure I'm also sure many of the engineers and employees own cmaxes as well who can also provide data to them. this will have been tested for sure.no way they will allow themselves to get a 2nd black eye regarding fuel economy. the only question now is if it will make the FE better or worse for those who already get 45+ mpg now
  7. the problem is that if none of the users here on the forum do the update none of us will know how it works and if it's better or not.we need someone with a good baseline and steady routes so they can compare apples to apples. we can't just let the non forum users get it and be in the dark.
  8. going by my Nickname you can guess if filtering out salsa music in my car would irritate me... :) baile baile!!
  9. ncost, please tell us about how many miles you drive each day on your trip and what % is in the city. what is your weather like in your city? what is your avg speed you drive on the freeway/highway? hybrids do better in town and below 55 mph. so you run the A/C all the time? and at what set temp?
  10. well it doesn't matter if they did tweak things for 351 since now they have a REAL mpg update: http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/2536-ford-to-offer-free-updates-to-boost-hybrid-vehicle-efficiency/
  11. good info here: "Testing advanced technology and alternative fuel vehicles Fuel economy information is required for all vehicles to determine appropriate values for fuel economy labels and for the CAFE program. The regulations clearly specify, for example, that both City and Highway test values are required for labeling and CAFE. The regulations also require that label test results must be adjusted using specified methods in order to reflect real-world fuel economy. While EPA strives to periodically update the regulatory test procedures such that all technologies are appropriately addressed, there may be instances when some emerging technologies or fuels are not able to be tested using existing regulations. Because of this, EPA has special regulatory provisions that allow EPA to direct manufacturers to test such vehicles using methods specified by EPA. Similarly, EPA is able to determine the content and appearance of the fuel economy labels when existing regulations do not appropriately address the technology or the fuel being used. For example, the regulations do not currently address how to determine City and Highway fuel efficiency values for electric vehicles. During the period when regulations are being developed for electric vehicles, EPA has specified, for example, that manufacturers use an accepted procedure developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers: the procedure known as SAE J1634. Further, to better approximate expected real-world performance, EPA has directed that the manufacturers adjust the test results (including City and Highway fuel efficiency and driving range) for the fuel economy label using equations and methods specified in the regulations." from here: http://www.epa.gov/fueleconomy/data.htm
  12. good find the obob. let's hope they do update their test method accordingly.as we know some here are killing the epa numbers by far ( 55+mpg )
  13. maybe Jus can pick some Ford reps brains this weekend at the eco boost challenge event in Los Angeles during or after the hypermile part and find out more about all of this.....
  14. can you ask them what month / build code this will take effect on? since we have a few members here with new cmaxes now on order and arriving soon so it will be nice to know who to track to see how their mpgs differ from other brand new owners from the first batch in 2012.
  15. i wonder if this fix/patch is coming out of the talks/negotiations with the EPA and the legal/lawsuit problems of the low mpg complainers, or just from their good hearts :)
  16. i still have only seen one CMax so far down near me here in So Cal but i know they are out there. glad this is the case as there are way to many ugly Prii around every corner.
  17. probably only using the red white yellow tv's jacks in the arm rest and switching the input accordingly. definitely can't play a DVD while driving the car.
  18. sadly the manual doesn't give any more info on this either. you'd think they have a separate paper on the coach and how to max your mpg.
  19. there is a step by step directions on how to share the fuelly stuff, but it's the gold shield/badge icon at the bottom that does it. just be sure to copy the BCC code not the HTML code. ah here it is: http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/1560-how-does-fuelly-show-up-on-everyones-posts/?hl=%2Bfuelly+%2Bsignature&do=findComment&comment=13768
  20. how many times do we have to repeat this. FORD does not create the test methods, its the EPA!!! all car mfgs must use the same tests on their cars in order to obtain the MPG numbers.
  21. yes to me the car should have a timer (to show avg mph speeds over your tank) for driving time not idle time so you can determine your city/hwy splits info for fuelly more accurately.
  22. after you write down the pertinent info on the receipt (miles driven on the trip/tank, avg mph over the trip, odometer reading, what type of gas used, etc) so you can then enter it on your Fuelly.com profile account.
  23. don't have to remind us.yes we know.at least i will get to finally drive one for the first time this weekend at the eco boost challenge. but now with the recall of the roof, and since we didn't really want our SEL 303a with the sunroof, we couldn't get one if we tried. it will still be a ways away till we get our Max.
  24. you need to develop ONE filling technique and stick with it to be accurate either stop at first click off at the pump, or stop and then add a little more to stop at second click off. don't change your methods from tank to tank and always use the hand calculated value to put into fuelly.com (miles divided by gallons) not what the dash shows. you can put the dash info as a note in your Fuelly data entry.
