  1. Id say this is your worst culprit. 1.5 miles is not going to warm the car up to op temp. ive read it needs 10-15 miles?! the plugin Energi would have been the better option in this case (for your work commute only, not sure about your other driving locations which may be much further away) Cmax is great around town but has to use gas not Ev if engine is cold
  2. raymond, I dont have a CMax yet but when you fill up and check your stats and compute mpg before resetting your trip computers, does the gages let you see your AVG mph (miles per hour) over the tankful of driving? if so what is it for you? track this for each fill-up if you can. this will tell you your % city/% highway driving I have started to track this to see if when my avg mpH is lower I get worse mpg (for my gas only Passat). In your case lower mpH would be better in the CMax and higher mpH may be worse the more %city, the better mpg you will most likely get with the CMax if you want better gas mileage you would want to try and see at least a 29 mpH average on a tankful which is about 70% city to take advantage of the Ev mode more and less on the engine the epa has rated that 21 mpH (miles per HOUR) average on a tankful and below is considered 100% city driving and 48 mpH average per tank and above is 100% highway driving Cmax isnt as good on the hwy as in the city. A diesel would be better for higher % hwy mph averages (and long stretches of 65-75 mph driving) here are the mpH cutoff points for each sector Avg MPH per tank / % Hwy / % City (all #'s rounded up to nearest .1 mph value) 48.0 / 100% / 0% 46.7 / 95% / 5% 45.3 / 90 / 10% 44.0 / 85% / 15% 42.6 / 80% / 20% 41.3 / 75% / 25% 39.9 / 70% / 30% 38.7 / 65% / 35% 37.2 / 60% / 40% 35.9 / 55% / 45% 34.5 / 50% / 50% - mid way 50/50 city hwy 33.2 / 45% / 55% 31.8 / 40% / 60% 30.5 / 35% / 65% 29.1 / 30% / 70% 27.8 / 25% / 75% 26.4 / 20% / 80% 25.1 / 15% / 85% 23.7 / 10% / 90% 22.4 / 5% / 95% 21.0 / 0% / 100%
  3. Make sure you NEVER fill up your gas when there is a gas tanker truck at the station filling up the tanks. It causes turbulence and gets all the junk/dirt/sediment on the bottom to come up into your gas fill up and then clog your fuel system.injectors thus getting bad mileage. you would have to then put cleaner in (or Techron gas as suggested) to fix it
  4. you guys must be lucky i called ALL the rental agencies this past week including Hertz and ALL said they dont have CMaxes yet Either they are lying or clueless or they are only at the airport locations and not the local offices hoping we can rent for 2-3 days before we buy my wife a CMax SEL I got some suggestions on another thread here to try a few things with Budget. One of the pro reviews on the car got his rented from Avis in San Diego airport.
  5. would you rather have cheap thin Prius wimpy doors that close too easily and buckle on impact, or nice heavy european doors that have more insulation and impact resistance and close with a solid "thunk" and need a little more effort to close? love the nice heavy doors on my Passat thunk!
  6. We have FIOS as well. I was wondering about this as well I heard the car can act as a mobile hot spot? is this true?
  7. Ok thanks I will have to ask my employer
  8. What is the "X Plan" and where do I find out about it? We are AAA and Costco members and were going to use that to get my wifes CMax SEL 303a Has anyone here used the AAA or Costco no haggle price option to buy a CMax? if so please report Also if you get the $750 cash then you cant use their financing correct? and if so did you finance through another bank or credit union. I know they will want you to stay with Ford credit and dont want to lose the money to Ford so....whats been everyones experience They always say to get pre-approved/pre-qualified with another bank before going to the dealer to get the car and try to have the dealer meet/beat the financing you alredy have with their own finc. company.
  9. So these turn on when you exit the car so you can see where you are walking (avoid the puddles)?
  10. Hmm that kinda sucks (no chirp/honk), So you have to be looking at the drivers mirror lights and not the drivers window when locking it? Does it auto lock if you leave it open for a while and just walk away as a security feature?
  11. Not liking hearing you had to get a new GPS in a car less than 8 months old! :( not a good selling point to tell my wife about how the CMax is better than the Prius, She is a devote Toyota lover
  12. So since Galpin is the biggest Ford dealer in So Cal I was going to go there for a test drive of a CMax Did they have the exact model you wanted when you were searching for the Cmax? we went to Star Ford in Glendale on a whim one day last week and they only had 1 Energi SEl and the Hybrid SE we wanted to test drive a Hybrid SEL since that is what my wife will get. Wanted to get the true driving experience in the same car we would get Galpin is on the other side of the world to us, down here in Whittier, but my wifes sisters live in the valley so we might venture up there one day.
  13. Hope to have my wife join your wife as a new CMax owner as well soon, Congrats. Saving gas AND having fun. what a great combo! Now the question is who wins when fighting over the keys? ;)
  14. Even if the car is small I would get autopark 1) very cool / envy of the town with fam/friends 2) sometimes you just cant judge how close you are to the curb/front/rear car I SOOOO wish my Passat had backup cam and park assist like the CC does. Im not so good at parallel parking any more...after surgery especially My windows arent like the HUGE ones in the CMax to let me see how close I am cant wait for wife to get the CMax
  15. If you are a AAA or Costco member then yes you can do just that. No haggle price. Just go in and tell them the model you want, test drive it, paperwork, wait for detailing or come back if it needs to be moved from another dealer, and sign and drive.
  16. I had a question on the capless gas tube... I saw a C-max review where they showed the guy filling up and gas was all over the under of the car because it didnt know when to shut off. Is this an issue or not? Cant find the article right now but... had the question
  17. I have a Droid Razr and my wife who will be getting the C-max has an iPod and Samsung phone so hopefully we wont have these issues. Apple is as much to blame as Ford In this day and age we expect so much from our cars over and above just driving. They are becoming more complicated and require software updates! Wonder how much MORE distracting cars have become themselves. wonder when they will say its too much.
  18. Perhaps on the Fusion they are both temp and speed since its a premium car and you are paying for a more sophisticated system whereas on the c-max its a lower level car and they went with the "dummy" system that only works either by temp or speed, If anyone knows who is the mfg of the grille shutters, maybe we can find out for sure. Any labeling in the engine compartment that you can see?
  19. That was one of the exact questions my wife had about this car. She was worried someone could steal your belongings when you were distracted in the car. The dealer didnt know for sure but then another sales man told us what he believed to the the truth, which is what you said. glad they thought of this cant wait to get our CMax one day....
  20. Doesnt the CMax chirp a sound when you lock the car with the button on the outside of the handle? My 2012 Passat SEL has the same kind of locks. You grip/pull the handle to open the door (with fob in pocket) and you touch the little area to lock them. or does it only chirp if you use the fob?
  21. I signed up for Budget today and will try and add the FastBreak option as well and see how that goes. Just hope this is not just in Miami where you are. They may only have the CMax in certain areas, like high tourist areas like Miami. Crossing fingers $100-$150 for a few days is worth it when you will own the car 5-7 yrs and want to be sure.
  22. @scubadad thats good news but i did call our lical budget. they said they didnt have a cmax available. i will try what you stated. we did want specific dates 5/17 to 5/19 for the anniversary weekend but we can try any other time as well.its important for my wife to be happy. its a long term commitment. we know its better than the prius. she is just not convinced about Ford as she is a Toyota owner. Toyota and high quality/reliability is synonymous (they used to be) to her. I had the 1995 Ford Probe GT for my car 2 cars ago. loved it. it was car of the year when it came out. you dont have to convince me. im the one reading all the reviews. for her even getting the lower 39 mpg would be a treat for her now getting about 17-19 mpg in her 4Runner. i know we will get better mpg here in so. cal warm weather and our driving pattern.
  23. @mtb we are AAA and costco members so when we are ready to buy we will be using their no haggle fair market price buying process and you have to use a specific dealer for that. im sure if they dont have the car on their lot they can have it moved. just hope we dont have to special order and wait months/weeks to actually get it.
  24. roninsd, we will be in San Diego for our anniversary weekend trip on 5/17 to 5/19. would love to meetup and see/discuss your cmax and talk to a real cmax owner to help us on our purchase decision. send me a pm if possible. thanks future cmax SEL hybrid owner
  25. good to hear the EPA will need to rethink their testing methods for hybrids: http://m.usatoday.com/article/news/1954967
