You need to shop around and check dealer inventories which you can do on line at FORD.com. I'm sure you can find one the way you want for at least 2-4K less. Check out ebay motors. IMO :) Paul

VELCRO Adhesive problems with Grill Covers
ptjones replied to ptjones's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Thanks I have those but they don't look good and I'm not having problems with the Velcro staying together, just the adhesive. Velcro for plastic is doing the job so far. :) Paul -
I have noticed a problem with new Velcro I bought at Walmart, the adhesive lets go when the Sun shines on it. It turns out Velcro sells a Velcro for plastics that has an higher temp adhesive that solves the problem. The part numbers are 90850 (strips, $3.00) or PN90881 (tape, $8.00) and some ACE Hardware stores carry it. You can use an hair dryer to heat up the Velcro to remove it and Lacquer thinner to clean off Grill Cover. Then cut fuzzy squares to size and attach to foam squares on Grill. Then attach hard Velcro loops to fuzzy Velcro and line up Grill Cover like the first time you installed it. You are back in business again. :) Paul

I have seen this happen at least 4 times in the last month, couple of times on my trip to SF. Curious, I haven't seen any ill effects though yet. :) Paul

50K and only an operator problem and I jumped it. 0 failures :) Paul

Well it finally warmed up in Atlanta today, 73*F, I went on 40mi. trip and averaged 55mpg, what fun. :happy feet: Rumor has it that it is going to cool off again next week, darn. :drop: Paul

Grill Covers are easy to clean, install and remove. Just got back from trip to SF (6k miles, 11 days and 50k total miles now) with all kinds of bad weather snow and ice with temps from -9*F to 70*F. MADMAX did very well with careful driving in icy and snow packed roads. Things I learned on this trip: 1. I hit 240*F climbing out of Camp Verde, AZ steep grade and still had away to go to the white line on Smart temp gauge so 245*F is approx. the top limit before warning message. 2. With Grill Covers on you run 10*F cooler with P&G vs cruise control plus better MPG's. 3. Top Grill is worth 5*F cooler when open. 4. Lower Grill cover is worth about 10*F higher when installed Averaged about 42MPG's actual, not bad considering conditions. :) Paul

Sharon and I enjoyed breaking bread with Brother Mike at Armadillo Willy's in San Jose while Mad Max and Maxus shared tales in the parking lot. We echo Mike's suggestion that some how, some way, some time, some where, some one will put together a national C-Max gathering or possible regional gatherings. We have a new friend and perhaps others can use this thread so other C-Maxers can hook up during their travels. If any of y'all are in the Atlanta area, shoot me a note and Sharon and I would be glad to get together!

I had my covers on all year long and the only time temps go up is at high speeds and long up hill climbs. I did supply a Grill Cover with cut out for Summertime use that solves this problem. At Fwy speeds it's worth 2mpg aero improvement. There is no reason to take off for City driving. :) Paul

Today Hwy's got better so I made a 50mile trip to North Atlanta got 50.1mpg with temp of 32*F going 80-50mph and returned 2hrs later with temp of 40*F going 50-75mph and got 53.6mpg. In 25min. temps got up to 231*F so I turned on heater and then temps were running 215-225*F I was amazed that there as still around 100 cars parked on the side of the Fwys from the snow storm. :) Paul

Nice job, be interesting to see if it bends. I'm going to try something at the front of the bumper and see how that improves MPG's. :) Paul

Engine air filter every 3000 miles ?
ptjones replied to rfruth's topic in Maintenance, TSB's & Recalls
I changed mine at 40k mi. and it didn't look bad. I could tell a difference with my air flow tester so I went with a K&N because it had least restriction.Couldn't tell whether it improve MPG's or not. If interested check out the K&N thread. :) Paul -
I have also seen this happen. Paul

To me I think the underside is becoming an increasing low pressure area sucking the car down. Also from the Cord line(behind the driver seat) is generally a higher pressure area with air slowing down changing direction and compressing at the base of the windshield. NASCAR teams use that area to feed the fuel injection systems. From the Cord line back air is speeding up to fill the gap caused by the 4inch drop in elevation and causing lift. The Question is are we gaining more lift than down force. ;) :detective: Paul

How many Miles do you have on the CMAX? Paul -
They are on all the time that they are plugged in, no thermostat, don't need one. My WT is about 25*F Warmer than what my garage temp is. WT sensor is at the top of ICE and oil pan is at the bottom. I'm guessing the oil pan is 50-60*F warmer. The ideal situation would be to have block heater to and I might do that in the future. :) Paul

First, the whole front end of the CMAX is plastic and I didn't want to drill any holes in the car. I'm working on my second generation Grill Cover that will have two screws that will attach to back side of the grill like I do on the FFH. As it turns out you get around 2mpg improvement aerodynamically at hwy speeds with the Grill Cover and it only takes less than a minute to remove. The velcro tabs work very well and can be easily replaced and you can store the cover on the back of the back seat when not in use. :) Paul
-
Also you would be able to use your heater sooner. It's better for your ICE to have harm oil than cold. :) Paul
