The big hit with A/C is the initial cooling the car down, This is why A/C is a MPG killer on short trips. My experience with HWY driving after the initial big hit in mpg's to cool the car down is about 2 mpg. This would vary with outside temps and humidity. Paul

How to Drive a CMAX Hybrid/FFH to get Great Gas Mileage
ptjones replied to ptjones's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
Filled up after our Lighthouse looking trip to VA and got 53.37 mpg with A/C use at 40%. I think when I got back I was 50 mpg at about 10 gal. used, the rest of the tank was driven at slower speeds so tank average ended up 53.37 mpg. The good news was my Fuelly average went up to 47.9 mpg. :yahoo: So even with 157k miles, my average keeps going up. :) I went to the Quick Trip Station, because they had Ethanol Free for $.02 more than Premium. Unfortunately it is only 87 Octane and Premium is 93 so at best I would get the same as Premium MPG's and maybe less so I stuck with Premium for this time. I did add a bottle of NOS Octane Booster which cleans the Injectors and adds 2 Octane to the gas. :) Pretty quick my MPG's went up 3 mpg's to around 59 mpg's from 56 mpg's. Up to 675 views of my videos now. :) Paul -
Driving right after having new transmission installed
ptjones replied to AudenHoggart's topic in General Discussion
I drove 1,300 HWY miles after picking up MADMAX after trans replacement and I drove it normally with no problems. I didn't have a choice, car was fixed at RICH FORD in Albuquerque, NM and I live in the Atlanta Area, also I have 60K miles on it. :) Paul -
Looking at a used 2013, how do I avoid transmission woes?
ptjones replied to Zoomit's topic in Buying, Order and Leasing
We did a check awhile ago and all CMAX Hybrid trans ratios are the same, but not all software/firmware are necessarily the same. :headscratch: Paul -

It might be that the ones that are going to fail have failed and not to many of those are left now. :headscratch: The numbers have definitely gone down, only seen a few in the the last few months. Paul -

Which would mean that your CMAX would still be covered under the Hybrid Warranty 8yrs/ 100k miles. IMO I don't see that you have a problem under your scenario, you would still be covered. :) BTW I would think I would get a New/Used CMAX at 159k mi. if I had problem figuring I got my moneys worth out of it. At 157k mi. on my CMAX I'm doing great, no payments, lower Insurance and Great MPG's, doesn't get much better than that. :) Paul -

I think you are over emphasizing the trans issue for one thing very few trans made it pass 100k miles so if it did fail it would be covered under the Hybrid warranty. That potentially would make the CMAX worth more. :) Here is the Link to trans fail build date and failure mileage and there was only one greater than 100k mi. and it had 159k mi. http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/5288-mileage-and-build-date-for-ecvt-that-have-failed/page-1 Paul -

I guess the only way to make sure is to buy one that the trans has been replaced, Mine failed at 98k mi., the main common denominator was cars that were driven on the FWY a lot. :headscratch: Paul -

I think you will be fine. :) You don't have anything to worry about, going up to 13k+ ICE mi. on an oil change and getting great report, the ICE will out last the car. :) Paul

How to Drive a CMAX Hybrid/FFH to get Great Gas Mileage
ptjones replied to ptjones's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
Just got back from Lighthouse trip to Virginia Coast and figured out a strategy for keeping WT up when using A/C. I turn the A/C on going uphill when I need the ICE and turn the A/C button off going down hill, still leave fan on in recirculate. This turns off the Radiator fan when the ICE isn't creating heat and keeps WT higher, I was seeing 170's *F WT with A/C on all the time with center Grill Cover and partial Lower Grill Cover on and OT around 90*F. Paul -
It was a little more than 4 years when I replaced my 12v battery so you may be do. :headscratch: Paul

How to Drive a CMAX Hybrid/FFH to get Great Gas Mileage
ptjones replied to ptjones's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
Just filled up my tank, actual 59.9 mpg,826 mi. and 13.8 gal. So about 50% HWY with 2- 100 mi. trips on I-85/I-285 and about 30% of the time with bike on bike rack. :) This is just an idea of what can be done now with all the tips from the YouTube videos and warmer temps. :) Paul -
I think I'm about 2 1/2 hrs. Sounds like fun. :) Good idea to have a solar filter to look through. Paul

C&D doesn't comment on what the temps and driving conditions were during test drives. That can make a big difference in MPG's and driving 75+mph isn't good for CMAX MPG's, because of aerodynamics. I don't think they care what needs to be done to get good MPG's and they don't comment on how fun the car is to drive. I usually don't drive 75-80mph unless traffic is or I have strong tall wind or long down hill stretch. :) I'd rather go 60-70 mph and get 49 mpg going to AZ and back and it still only takes two days and three fill ups. :) Paul

YouTube Video views are up to 548 and between three FORD CMAX/FFH Forums we are up to 3280 views. Current tank at 59.4 mpg at 411 miles, looking like I'll reach 800 miles on this tank. Has anyone been using this technique seen an improvement in mpg's? Paul
