  2. Looks like they finally addressed the 12-volt battery charging issue ;)
  3. Me too. I have a pipeline carrying the hot air directly from state legislative chamber windfarm, but it only works a few months of the year, because Indiana doesn't have a full-time legislature. Yet... ;)
  4. Sexism rears it's ugly head. Many of us old men hate to listen… "Yes dear" In my experience, unless there is a woman service writer, or woman co-owner, women always face a HUGE problem when taking their cars to any type of service facility for anything. Men of a certain age (6-years-and-up), absolutely hate to be told (informed, advised, reminded) anything about how to fix anything when that information comes from a woman, be it their wife, girlfriend, daughter, mother, mother-in-law, up to and including, "female customer at the dealership". Any boy or man can give them the identical info in the same way, and will usually be listened-to, at least by the second time. Footnote: My wife has always refused to take 'her' car to any local repair facilities. The one facility where she (justifiably) trusted their advice and always felt unthreatened was in the next town where she lived before we were married. Unfortunately, they closed years ago.
  5. TireRack.com (headquartered in South Bend, IN with additional shipping locations) sells a package of 4 Ford-compatible 315MHz TPMS sensors for $128 plus $16 for metal valve stems, when purchased with wheels. The site says 'talk to a sales specialist' to purchase the sensors separately, so they're probably more than $32 each but probably less than $60 each. Apparently a Ford-compatible TPMS reset tool is also needed if you're installing the wheel/tire combo yourself (put on beginning of season/take off end of season), and that's another $45 or more. http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/WheelCloseUpServlet?target=runWheelSearch&autoMake=Ford&autoModel=C-MAX+Hybrid&autoYear=2013&autoModClar=SE&initialPartNumber=DR880510845MGMF&i1_Qty=4&wheelMake=Advanti+Racing&wheelModel=Drago&wheelFinish=Machined+w%2FMatte+Graphite+Acct&wheelFinish=Machined+w%2FMatte+Graphite+Acct&showRear=no&dtab=TPMS&package=W&association=1
  6. Perspective. Most every Toyota Prius I see on the interstate near my home is always going 'flat out' (well, at least 10mph above the posted speed limit). 2012 used Prius v Five for sale at a nearby Toyota dealer. http://www.rohrmantoyota.com/wholesale-used/Toyota/2012-Toyota-Prius+v-71534b910a0a00027cd2daebc2b83275.htm Two owners (from CarFax, corporate fleet vehicle for the first 5,000 miles, then private owner next 19,000 miles) 24,667 miles. 36.5mpg! Car is rated 44 city/40 highway
  7. So global warming IS a thing. Causes don't really matter if future generations face certain extinction because we didn't do enough during our lifespan, right? I hope that by living greener in a more energy-efficient home, using more efficient lighting and appliances, recycling, buying a more fuel-efficient vehicle, and modifying my driving habits a little bit, I will be doing my tiny part to help right the :airquote: SHIP "Save the Humans Inhabiting the Planet". Because saving the planet so just algae survives isn't nearly as high on my priority list. In early August, GM/Chevy announced that the next generation (2016) Chevy Volt will debut at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit January 12-25 2015. http://media.gm.com/media/us/en/gm/news.detail.html/content/Pages/news/us/en/2014/Aug/0807-volt.html The press release had several interesting factoids: Volt sales were up 13 percent in July (2014) and more than 65,000 have been sold since it was introduced – making it the best-selling plug-in passenger car in the U.S. market.Volt owners are driving more than 63 percent of their overall miles in electric vehicle mode, collectively logging more than 500 million gas-free miles since the Volt’s retail debut in 2010. That has saved more than 25 million gallons of gasoline. That's fantastic! Chevy Volt drivers are leading the way to saving the planet! What a relief! I feel so much better about saving the planet now. I'm also very glad my friend at church bought a Volt, so I didn't have to… ;) Until facts get in the way... On the average DAY, 368.51 million gallons of gasoline are used in the United States. http://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.cfm?id=23&t=10 So four years of production, 65,000 Chevy Volts sold, driving half-a-billion gas-free miles, have saved about 7% of the gasoline consumed in the United States, in one day. But wait, hybrids comprise over 3% of all vehicles in the US now. http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1083671_hybrid-vehicle-sales-grew-40-percent-last-year-study-finds So we have to add in all the rest of the hundreds of thousands of hybrid and plug-in vehicles produced over the last 15 years, and those billions of miles traveled, and assume for a moment, that we've collectively achieved 100%. 100% = one day of US consumption No way, that's way too low, it's gotta be MUCH higher than that. So if I'm off by a factor of 10: 1,000% = ten days of US consumption saved over 15 years That's still really low, it's gotta be MUCH higher than that. So if I'm still off by a factor of 10: 10,000% = 100 days of US consumption saved over 15 yearsAre you sure? It's gotta be MUCH higher than that. So if I'm still off by a factor of 10 (highly unlikely, I think, given that we're only talking about 3% of all vehicles, not 30%) 100,000% = 1,000 days of US consumption saved over 15 years STILL less than 3 years of US gasoline consumption saved over the past 15 years. And then there's the rest of the world…
  8. I think it's under Phone settings. SYNC expects Bluetooth-connected devices to be phones, so while it should recognize your Bluetooth transmitter, it might not recognize the connected Sansa as a media player. http://support.ford.com/sync-technology/pair-your-phone-sync Take a look at the Ford SYNC site: syncmyride.com http://support.ford.com/topics/sync-technology The base SE audio system has SYNC with MyFord, not MyFordTouch SYNC also lets you use your Sansa-to-USB connection/charging cable into the USB port in the console under the armrest, or you can plug it into the Line In audio port there via a 3.5mm male/male audio cable. Line In obviously does not permit switching playlists or tracks, but the steering-wheel volume control still works. SE owners can subscribe to additional SYNC Services* for $60 a year. That gets you turn-by-turn instructions sent to the car (and brief turn-instructions (not maps) displayed on the 5" center console screen) via a Bluetooth-linked phone when you plan the trip destination and send it to SYNC from mapquest.com. Because it doesn't send maps, SYNC will re-calculate directions from your car's GPS location if you go off-route. SYNC gives you the choice to discontinue and resume later based on your current position, instead of expecting you to backtrack. It's best to connect and SYNC or re-SYNC the directions before the vehicle begins moving, because it does take a few moments to download the instructions. Subscribing to SYNC Services also gets you up to 20 operator-assisted calls per year. *Cost of SYNC Services is $60 per year for SE owners. SEL owners get 3-years of SYNC Services free, but that still requires registration and annual no-cost renewal.
  9. Nothing close to $10,000 off MSRP for a modestly-equipped 2013 C-MAX Hybrid SEL. 2013 C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid models show $5,000 Ford incentives and 0% financing, plus a potential $4007 federal tax credit, but the MSRP is also substantially higher. Understand that Ford and Ford Credit incentives and cut-rate financing vary by dealer geographical region, and available finance rate offers will depend upon the credit history of you, the buyer. There are residency restrictions as well, so even if you find a really screamin' deal in some city just a couple-hour-airline flight away, it doesn't mean you'll meet the residency requirements of all the incentives available in that dealer region. You have to read the fine print. And there's LOTS of fine print... Prices of 2013 Hybrid SEL's still in inventory in Indiana and advertised on Ford.com includes combined incentives of up to $3,250, or 0% for 72 months and $1,750 'bonus cash' (expiring tomorrow 09/02/2014). Here's one example: a 2013 C-MAX Hybrid SEL VIN#1FADP5BU9DL552777 in Tuxedo Black with Light Stone leather interior and Equipment Group 302A at a Zionsville, Indiana Ford dealer. MSRP of $29,890-$3,250 Ford and Ford Credit incentives = $26,640. Additional dealer discount of $1,937, for an advertised price of $24,703 as shown, combined for about 17.5% off MSRP. http://www.pearsonford.org/new-inventory/details?lang=en&make=Ford&zipcode=46077&vehicle_type=car&models=Fiesta&models=Focus&models=Fusion&models=Mustang&models=C-MAX&models=Taurus&year=2015&year=2014&year=2013&year=2012&sort_by=price_desc&view=list&vin=1FADP5BU9DL552777&index=15&count=69&offset=14&limit=1 Assume they really really really want to move that car today and simply GIVE you another $3,000 off without negotiation, you're still at $21,700, still $2,700 above your stated target price of $19k. I don't believe you'll ever get that kind of deal today, unless the car was a demo with thousands of miles on it, or was damaged during shipment or on a test-drive and rebuilt without ever being titled. They're a business, not a charity. But new incentives will likely begin on 09/03/2014, so who knows what deal you might get by waiting a couple more days. EDIT: Here's a dealer in Maryland offering what appears to be huge discounts with residency restrictions and lots of inventory, but still nothing close to $10k off sticker http://appleford.com/Baltimore-Washington-DC/For-Sale/New/?MakeId=12&ModelId=2342&Model=C-Max%20Hybrid&Make=Ford
  10. At least one more than we had on August 22nd 2014, apparently. As new users come to these forums, it's often easier to pose a direct question than to read through 24 months of old threads trying to find the same information in 7 different places. That's not anyone's fault, it just the way it is in nearly every online forum more than a few months old that still attracts new members, unless we hire 24x7 'Question Police' to be certain no one ever asks a question that's already been asked.
  11. Following the link to the 2013 Ford 10K provided by Plus3Golfer... Excerpt from the Ford 2013 10K, filed February 18, 2013 for the year ended December 31, 2012 (Font Size, Italics, color, and boldface all modified by me.) 1A Risk Factors (on page 10 of the pdf document) "Lower-than-anticipated market acceptance of Ford's new or existing products. Although Ford conducts extensive market research before launching new or refreshed vehicles, many factors both within and outside Ford's control affect the success of new or existing products in the marketplace. Offering highly desirable vehicles that customers want and value can mitigate the risks of increasing price competition and declining demand, but vehicles that are perceived to be less desirable (whether in terms of price, quality, styling, safety, overall value, fuel efficiency, or other attributes) can exacerbate these risks. For example, if a new model were to experience quality issues at the time of launch, the vehicle's perceived quality could be affected even after the issues had been corrected, resulting in lower sales volumes, market share, and profitability. In addition, with increased consumer interconnectedness through the internet and other media, mere allegations relating to quality, safety, fuel efficiency, corporate social responsibility or other key attributes can negatively impact market acceptance, even where such allegations prove to be inaccurate or unfounded."
  12. I'm sure I read somewhere that the 2015's will be offered in Lemon-y Yellow with a Poppycock interior… ;)
  13. According to this ACSI report, customer satisfaction with automakers including several "luxury" brands, has fallen to a 5 year low. Ford ranks "81" with Hyundai, Nissan, and Chrysler. http://www.theacsi.org/news-and-resources/press-releases/press-2014/press-release-automobiles-2014 An excerpt: Mercedes-Benz is down 2 percent but still leads the industry with an ACSI score of 86, followed by Subaru at 85 (-1%). Lexus slips 3 percent to tie Volkswagen (unchanged) at 84, while Toyota and Honda each fall 3 percent to 83. Buick also scores 83 and is the only domestic nameplate to exceed the industry average. “There are two aspects of these findings that are somewhat unusual,” says Claes Fornell, ACSI Chairman and founder. “The first is that although the domestic car industry has deteriorated in customer satisfaction over the past couple of years, the gap to imports has narrowed due to a weakening of the latter’s customer satisfaction. The other notable finding is that several of the luxury brands do poorly. That didn’t use to be the case, and suggests that consumers now expect more for their money when they pay a premium price.” Meanwhile, Chevrolet jumps to an ACSI score of 82, matching GMC (down 4%) and Kia (unchanged). Ford, Nissan, Hyundai and Chrysler are all tied at 81, just below industry average. Cadillac plummets 6 percent to an ACSI score of 80, neck and neck with Mazda and BMW (both down 2%). At the bottom of the rankings are two domestic brands and two imports. Chrysler’s Jeep and Dodge both dip 1 percent to 79 and 78, respectively. Audi, which is included in the Index for the first time this year, posts a score of 79. In last place, Acura plunges 7 percent to 77.

    New owner

Welcome! We're just past 5 months of ownership. I found the Empower left-hand screen to be most helpful when learning to drive our C-MAX efficiently. The 'ghost' outline of available high-voltage battery capacity in blue helps me (try to) stay in EV mode longer accelerating away from a stop. Or I just punch it and crack a big smile as I hear the traction control try to keep the front tires from spinning. By not doing that all the time, I still manage to average over 44mpg.
  16. My personal best for EV-only and EV+ operation: 999.9 mpg for 1.7 miles When I get the HVB completely topped off via regen on the long interstate off-ramp, I can drive (from the ice cream store at the top of the ramp) through town to home entirely in EV. I've actually done it one other time from another exit about the same distance from home, but didn't grab a snapshot. UPDATE: 09-15-2014 Got my personal best EV-only distance up to 2.4 miles yesterday with a full HVB from the other interstate off-ramp mentioned above, but I didn't grab a snapshot, just noted the odometer mileage. There was still a ~35% charge showing in the HVB and the car was in EV+ so I probably could have driven another 1/2 mile or so, but we were home at that point.
  17. I like the concept of a fuel cell - Combine hydrogen and oxygen, generate electricity, and leave behind only water as a by-product. The first problem is building out the infrastructure to support refueling that is convenient for consumers. At this point, if an FCV runs out of hydrogen fuel, it has to be hauled on a flatbed to the nearest refueling station. You can't go buy a 5-gallon bottle of hydrogen and fill it yourself. Just like other hybrids from other manufacturers, the proof for me would be in how it drives. I'm not interested in a hydrogen-fueled Prius with the same limitations on comfort and performance. Hyundai has the Tucson Fuel Cell, a modest SUV-sized vehicle and available only in southern California initially. 265 mile maximum range, 0-62mph in 12.5 seconds, and a top speed of 100mph. It will be available for lease only at $499 a month for 36 months with $2999 down, including all maintenance. Details: https://www.hyundaiusa.com/tucsonfuelcell/ Toyota claims a 300 mile range for their (apparently) Prius-sized 2015 Fuel Cell vehicle. Pricing not yet listed on the website: http://www.toyota.com/fuelcell/
  18. For forum members who haven't explored the 'Your Profile' settings button next to your forum username, there is a Manage Ignore Prefs setting, so you can mute the posts, signatures, messages, or all three of other members.
  19. Wouldn't you want (German?) C-MAX headlight assemblies for the proper light cutoff for left-hand-drive cars instead of those oriented for right-hand-drive in the UK?
  20. Rain-X obviously can't prevent sap from getting on the glass of course, but the slippery coating makes sap and bug guts much easier to remove. Of course it also increases aero run-off of rain especially at highway speeds.
  21. Unless you live near a black-hole... There are apparently some "shadows" in GPS satellite coverage, perhaps because of the orientation of the GPS antenna within the vehicle dashboard that seem to affect our EV+. When I approach home from the north, the car gets within 100-150 yards before EV+ activates. From the south and from the east, it's closer to 500 yards. It's impossible to approach home from the west because we live on the last north-south road in the subdivision, without any access from the west. One other note: A dead 12-volt battery apparently clears any stored EV+ locations.
  22. Reviving an old thread. I installed the genuine Ford clear bumper protector purchased from PartsCheap.com onto our Platinum White C-MAX last Saturday. Even with shipping, their discounted price was less than I could find it locally. Installation took me about 15 minutes and saved me the $30 a dealer would charge to install it. A bit easier to see the logo when it's installed on a white car... Detail of the end, showing the relative thickness, and how it covers the top surface and all of the first bevel and part of the second beveled edge. One hint I gleaned from watching YouTube videos by the 'pros': use the soapy spray on the bumper AND the sticky side of the protector AND your hands before beginning to position it. That way it won't stick and you won't leave fingerprints in the adhesive until you're ready to squeegee it into place. It is quite wide, so an extra pair of hands can help hold one side while you get the other side perfectly aligned and centered.
  23. More speculation on the same C2 platform information http://insideevs.com/compact-ford-plug-hybrid-coming-new-c2-platform-2018/
  24. Welcome to the forums! As an old-timer who fondly remembers the grabber blue 69 Mustang Boss 302, I saw your username and started daydreaming about a nice 400 hp 5.0 liter (302 cubic inch) V8 stuffed into a C-MAX hybrid. http://www.hsaservicecenterinc.com/projects/1970-ford-mustang-boss-302-grabber-blue/
