Thanks so much for posting this great comparison info, and please continue to do updates! We never considered an all-electric vehicle for the primary car, but since the purchase of our C-MAX Hybrid, I've been seriously thinking that it makes perfect sense as a second vehicle because so many of our trips are very short local commutes. A C-MAX Energi would have been an ALMOST perfect fit, but the large battery reduced the cargo capacity and useful shape too much for our weekly needs, like transporting a push mower back and forth between properties. We're both retired now, so it will probably at least 2 to 10 years before we look for a replacement for the oldest car. As the technology advances, the EV range keeps increasing while the vehicle cost keeps decreasing, so it doesn't pay for us to 'rush' into an EV purchase. Speaking of Tesla, I follow Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, @stevewoz on Twitter. Steve owns a Tesla S. Don't know if it's the 60KW (rated at ~265 miles max battery or the 85KW (now rated at ~300 miles max) battery. He's a pretty entertaining guy anyway, but some of his posts about finding charging and Supercharger stations for his Tesla are priceless. He recently said he's discovered lots of new eating places because of the need to recharge the car on longer trips! And I'm sure you already know about this site that lists EV charging stations: http://www.plugshare.com

Well, super duper at yet another useless post under the wrong forum topic. :) Look. No one here can magically restore your "lost" mpg over the internet just because you continue to post about it here. Instead, take your C-MAX to an authorized Ford service department equipped with the diagnostic tools, and the training, and the experience to properly diagnose it and fix it. If you're not happy with your current dealer, Direct Message Rebecca, the FordService rep in this forum to offer assistance: http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/user/1579-fordservice/ UPDATE 12-11-2014: Tricia is now the FordService rep in this forum. Uh, no. You :airquote: misquoted yourself. You absolutely DID NOT say "on up hill grades" You said "on any grade". If English is not your native language, I apologize for misunderstanding your improper use of the word "any." So if "any" really means "any", then "any" includes uphill, downhill, or perfectly flat, anything and everything in between. Full Definition of ANY1: one or some indiscriminately of whatever kind: a : one or another taken at random <ask any man you meet> b : every —used to indicate one selected without restriction <any child would know that>2: one, some, or all indiscriminately of whatever quantity: a : one or more —used to indicate an undetermined number or amount <have you any money> b : all —used to indicate a maximum or whole <needs anyhelp he can get> c : a or some without reference to quantity or extent <grateful for any favor at all>3a : unmeasured or unlimited in amount, number, or extent <any quantity you desire> b : appreciably large or extended <could not endure it anylength of time> "Any." Merriam-Webster.com. Merriam-Webster, n.d. Web. 7 Dec. 2014. <http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/any>. You're the only person I've ever met who apparently believes that posting in an internet forum will somehow suddenly and abruptly fix their car. :)

You traded in a perfectly good Saab 9-3 for a C-MAX Hybrid and now you're feeling used and abused. And now that the car "knows" you're going to lemon-law it, it is burning excessive amounts of fuel just to incite you. Fine. Enjoy your lemon-law buyback. Now please go be upset somewhere else. And have a nice life. :) ============ I never let facts stand in the way of a good rant. Even if it is in the wrong forum. This is the Batteries forum, not the Fuel Mileage forum. But I digress... The 2014 C-MAX Hybrid is EPA rated at 37mpg highway. pittcmax got 36.7mpg for about 1/4 of a tank? Driving 134 indicated miles using the car's displayed 36.7 miles per gallon, uses a calculated 3.65 gallons of fuel. ICE-only cars gets low mpg numbers (8-10 mpg) when warming up in cold temperatures. Most of them without shut-off/restart also get a glorious 0mpg when warming up in the driveway or stopped at stop lights, because the engine continues to run even when the car is not moving. But on with the math: Subtracting 69.4 EV miles lfrom 134 miles results in 64.6 miles. Dividing 64.6 miles by 3.65 gallons is 17.7mpg, NOT "8-10" miles per gallon. "37 won't do it" The cost difference between 36.7mpg and 44mpg at $3.999 per gallon (assuming that fuel gets more expensive again soon) is two cents per mile, 9 cents per mile at 44mpg versus 11 cents per mile at 37mpg. For 50,000 business miles per year, two cents per mile is $1,000 annually. If two-cents-per-mile is truly breaking pittcmax's household budget, pittcmax needs a far less expensive, far more efficient means of transport (moped?), or a job that pays better and requires less travel.

Welcome! You're also aware of the related C-MAX Energi-specific forum, right? (Link at the top of the forum screens, or here http://fordcmaxenergiforum.com) Many Energi owners are members of both forums. Enjoy your stay in C-MAXland!

Is your car equipped with the DRL (Daytime Running Lamp) option? If it is, it should be listed as a separate item on the Monroney window sticker. (Paste in your VIN in place of the one shown) http://services.forddirect.fordvehicles.com/inventory/WindowSticker.pdf?vin=1FADP5BU3DL538695 On my other car with DRL (2003 Pontiac Vibe), it uses a lower voltage to the low-beam headlights when the DRL is active, then switches to the 'full nighttime' voltage when the DRL module on the dash detects sufficient darkness (including garages, tunnels, and very dark clouds!)

Bitter much? :) You can display any recorded DTC codes in the left-hand display screen. Simply hold down the left-hand OK button on the steering wheel when powering the car on, then scroll up or down through the screens to the DTC codes page.

If your C-MAX suddenly gets unusual fuel cravings and starts to gain weight, be on the lookout for a baby-MAX in about 9 months. ;)

Gas Pods - Latest Lame Scam, or Legit?

In my opinion, many of the disgruntled owners who post here lack that 'long-term trust' in Ford, Ford dealerships, and Ford service departments, to diagnose and fix their cars. And going forward, that 'lack-of-trust' is a much more difficult problem to solve than the technical issues causing 12-volt batteries to die unexpectedly. Tell me about the C-Max HV battery and hybrid electrical system
kostby replied to SPL Tech's topic in General Discussion
There is no US-built model year 2012 Ford C-MAX Hybrid SL. All US-built C-MAX Hybrids assembled during 2012 were tagged as 2013 models. US-built C-MAX Hybrids are available in SE and SEL trim. All C-MAX Hybrid + plug-in Energi models are SEL trim. 7. Prius high-voltage battery is Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH). C-MAX high voltage battery is Lithium Ion (Li-Ion). http://auto.howstuffworks.com/lithium-ion-batteries-improve-hybrids1.htm -
I am picking up my new 2015 C-Max today. Any advise
kostby replied to James Libasci's topic in 2015 Ford C-MAX Hybrid
Job 1 for 2015 C-MAX was scheduled for September 15, 2014. Not aware of Ford reporting significant changes or changeover difficulties that could have caused a 2 month delay. http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/4255-job-1-2015-c-max/ The new F-150 pickup truck Job 1 was November 10, 2014 https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2014/11/11/ford-begins-building-all-new-f-150.html The production date is shown on the door jamb sticker in the form #yyyy/mm/dd####, so James can check the sticker for the actual production date of his vehicle. -

I added some blue flex split wire conduit to protect the full length of the 120-volt cord against some of the sharp edges of the engine and transmission castings underneath, and abrasion from moving around with the airflow under the hood. I selected blue and used fluorescent green removable wire ties, so it would stand out from the orange of the High Voltage system, and the black oem wiring conduits used all over the place, so hopefully the dealership service people will leave it alone when servicing the car!!!

Welcome! Wow, that is quite a trek! We live just north-west of Indianapolis, but found our C-MAX just 15 miles away in Brownsburg. 34mpg isn't bad for sustained 75mph on a brand new engine, and not far off the EPA 37mpg highway, though many people in these forums regularly achieve higher numbers.

I just purchased this "Smart Electronics" water-resistant 24-hour timer with 2 grounded outlets and a remote on/off fob at Menards. It's rated at 10 amp resistive load/1000 watts tungsten load, so it should be more than adequate for the 125-watt Wolverine oil pan heater. Once set, the timer can be turned on and off remotely with the fob up to 80 ft away from inside the house. Then it will automatically shut off after 2, 4, or 8 hours, so I don't accidentally leave it run way longer than necessary. I tested the 2-hour setting to try it out when the garage temp was about 45, and the oil pan was noticeably warmer to the touch than the upper engine surfaces, but (as I expected) the coolant temp wasn't measurably affected on the left-hand Diagnostics mode display. Similar timers are surely available cheaper on Amazon and eBay, but I wasn't really sure what features I wanted until I looked at the many timers available in the store.

Soon Google (via an in-car Android OS) will be able to track your in-car listening habits, use of heat or A/C, navigation system usage, precise abusive language directed at the !@#$%^&* navigation system, phone calls made to/from your vehicle, websites you browsed online while driving stuck in traffic, all the stores, restaurants, and gas stations you visit, along with everything else they're already tracking about you. And of course there WILL be in-car ads to defray the costs...

Final Drive ratio on our 2013 Hybrid SE is 2.57 as reported on Ford ETIS on 4/29/2014 for our 2013 C-MAX SE. Or not. According to a recent post by Rachel of Ford Service, ETIS is not the official Ford site for North American C-MAX info.

From other message threads in these forums, turning the car on and off 11 times in a row at the same location adds it to EV+ memory right away. If I recall correctly, up to 5 "frequent" locations are stored. Frequency of visits is important: If you visit the same location just once or twice a week, it is not saved automatically. Welcome and congrats on your purchase! My wife has relatives in the St. Louis area and so we've been to the area and visited the Gateway Arch several times. Always loved the "rumor" that East St. Louis, IL was going to build a giant statue of a man with a croquet mallet on their side of the river. ;)
